  1. Thanks guys. Changed my mind again. Gonna be getting a Seat Leon (probably today).
  2. Hi guys, As a followup on this, I decided to keep the car and bring it back from the dead and get it to as close to mint as I can. After a few extra opinions, I'm starting with the clutch/gearbox combo. Went on ebay, found this clutch. Does anyone have experience with these sort of parts and do you know if it's safe to buy them right off ebay like this and is the price good? Thanks.
  3. Especially now with the snow, it's the biggest annoyance I've had with the car (and I've had plenty). Thanks for the tips guys, called the dealers (closed till monday now :().
  4. I'm actually in the same situation (sad hi5). I'm left with the coma-shaped bit (made of metal, dark in colour, the spring and the wiper used to be attached to it, I guess it's called the spline). Which still moves there and back when I switch it on. All the other bits are either bent or broken to bits. Any advise on where to go for parts? (except the obvious, local dealer - pricey...)
  5. Thanks for the advice guys. As a rough total for the essential repairs comes down to just above 2k so selling is a no brainer really, I just thought maybe there is some chance of a miracle advice from the forums that would support keeping it. Guess I'm buying a new fabia
  6. Hey, the skoda garage said that the pump itself is leaking and the rad has a few holes that cant be plugged. So both parts need to be replaced. Was quoted £800 for this. ( can buy a new fabia in good condition on autotrader if I add a bit...)
  7. Hi guys, Here's the back story: about 2 years ago my mums boyfriend picked up a fabia (y2k,80k on the clock,1.4 mpi, okay-ish condition). A year ago I bought it off him as my first car (good price). Pretty much ever since things were going downhill. I've changed in this year: front left wheel hub, drive schaft, lots of bits around it, all screwed. >> total with labour: £690 at a local skoda dealership 2 bushers (dont remember the name for sure, 1 of them on each side, under the front wheels, stick out below everything, metal surrounded in rubber, sitting in a metal tube, makes horrible noise when breaks, has a big say in suspension) >> £450 inc labour, (local bmw specialist who sorted me out cause I couldnt afford the price the dealership asked me) both radiator sensors (top and bottom) ->> about a hundred quid. Things to do: urgent: mot reported movement in the wishbone (I'm afraid to ask for a quote for this, I don't want to know how bad it is). slowly leaking water pump and radiator gearbox/clutch almost broken (getting into 3rd gear is extremely noisy, it was like this when he bought the car 2 years ago though) exhaust almost rotten through, half a year ago a mechanic said it's got about 3 months to live really nasty rattling noise coming somewhere from the ac/water pump area some of the stuff the skoda dealers told me to fix ASAP (I have no idea what these mean): O/S carrier bush broken, play in N/S/F drop link would be nice to fix: front headlights look like they have been painted, then sanded down (very little light coming out of them) the lacquer layer of the paint is coming off all over the car so probably a full sand down/spray is required) rear water jet not working lots of funny noise under the car when going over bumps (like something is moving) Here's another one the dealer told me to fix asap: both front DISCS badly lipped - what does this one mean with all of these faults, I still feel very attached to the car and am a bit against selling it, plus if I was to sell it, I would like to get at least 800 quid for it (to cover some of the repair costs over the last few months, forget the actual car worth), but I don't believe it's worth the money as if I try to sell the car and am honest about the issues, no one will be willing to pay this kind of money. So my problem is as follows, I'm afraid that if I try to sell this car, I won't get enough money to buy a new one (I will buy another small-engined fabia, insurance costs are crazy for 21 year olds with only 1 year of experience), and if I cant buy a new one I can't get to work. So if selling isn't an option, I have to fix this one as it's my only means of transport to work, fixing it will probably require an insane amount of money, which makes the whole idea pretty stupid. I know that there are a lot of people here who are much wiser than me, I'm in panic mode and would really appreciate a bit of guidance and/or good advice. Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this.
  8. I had the same issue. This is what I did: 1. Changed the thermostat sensors (2 on the rad). 2. Used radweld (and really regret it) 3. Went to a local skoda dealer, got them to inspect it: now the rad and the water pump are leaking. Around 750 to change both (inc parts and labour). Word of advice: Don't try the cheap stuff, first just get it to a local dealer, they can inspect it for you and tell you exactly what the issue is.
  9. That's actually not too bad. Ibiza cupra ones ftw though
  10. well, if they remap tractors, they must be a reputable company
  11. 21 (driving a 1.4 classic though), insurance is mental (1550 per annum, 3rd party only).
  12. Avoid the 4.0.2. update, all it does is fix the pdf exploit, which is used for the jailbrake. You can still apply the same fix, after you jailbrake, using cydia.
  13. Thanks JulieD, yup, was a straight swap from stock 1.4 classic to stock 1.4 sport alloys, avoiding the aftermarket stuff SO MUCH GRIP with these though, they're at least 1/3rd wider.
  14. I do runs of Rochester to Bradford and back (one way: around 230 miles, just under 3/4 of a tank with average driving, 1.4 mpi classic fabia) about once a month, it ain't bad. Avoid M1 from midday to late evening. Lots of roadworks, A1(m) ain't bad, just came back yesterday. Don't be afraid to go a couple miles over 70, I always hover 68-72 in my favourite long distance position and it helps me spend more time concentrating on the road, rather than the spedo. If you haven't checked your mirrors since the last time you've checked your spedo, you're doing it wrong.
  15. I just bought mats from you (by following the link) and forgot to type in the coupon code :( doh.
  16. Sort of the same question, don't want to start another thread for this. I've got a 1.4 classic and put on 1.4 Sport alloys. Do I need any spacers or anything? If yes, what's a good place to buy the bits?
  17. has set their status.

  18. Would love to hear something more concrete, but thank you very much for the tip on the hub (as that is the most pressing issue at the moment)
  19. I was the lucky guy who got the wheels! Awesome dude, does really exist, do not be afraid to send him all your money, bank details and the deed to the house Thanks Wayne.
  20. A fellow briskodian has offered a gearbox/clutch combo, wheel hub and wheels. So he put the 05 Sport stock alloys onto my w-reg fabia classic, they look good, we didn't put in any offsets (not sure if any are needed), gonna do balancing this week. Then I got greedy and said that I want the gearbox, clutch and a left wheel hub from the donor car. Questions being: Will the parts fit? Is there anything we need to know? Are the wheels ok (can someone confirm that these don't need offsets)? If this works, my lovely little fabia will successfuly avoid the scrapyard for a few more years.
  21. I do mine on the release day (of the jb of course). Btw, Installous is good, but appcake is better as installous only allows you to search apptrackr, while appcake does 3 of them (apptrackr.org,iphonecake.com and some other), so more sites = more good dl links. Source for appcake is cydia.iphonecake.com and then install appcake via cydia. To anyone worried about legalities/phones breaking: 1. Apple will not touch a currently jailbroken iphone (tested in the oxford street store). Restoring takes 5 minutes (also done in the oxford street store, while making the tech guy wait ). They are happy to help with issues, when you take the jb off right infront of their eyes. 2. The current jb's DO NOT break iphones. Lockups, screwups etc usually result as a result of idiocy of the person following the tutorial. However that is taken out of the equation with jailbreakme.com. IF something does mess up, connect to itunes, click restore and then go to jailbreakme.com - MAGIC 3. It's currently LEGAL in the USA to jailbreak iphones, however it still voids warranty in some states. In the uk, the warranty is void only for the time the jb is active, restoring it, restores the warranty. (tested). funny fact: more than half of the people who work in the oxford street store and have iphones (almost all of them, they get great deals), have jailbroken their units. (I know this for a fact as a very good friend of mine works there.)
  22. I also use RAC traffic and it saved me from a good few traffic jams in the past months. Street fighter is epic. TomTom is sort-of worth the money, I used the maps app and often found it annoying (especially while being lost in london). I am lost no more. Skype is awesome (free calls to skype users) iphone to iphone quality is ****, but it works.
  23. I hear you. I live in Rochester and work in London (Shoreditch). Buying a MONTHLY ticket on the high-speed service (the slow one is completely useless) is £421.30. They're mental. I recently started driving, the traffic is bearable and it costs me on average 60 quid a week in petrol (and I found free parking). So that's a whopping saving, never thought it would be cheaper to drive than to take the public transport...
  24. @mdk1, I pm'd you. @kai, that thought has passed me before. I'm more than happy with the result and I think it's fair.
