  1. I note your comments and the fact that, as soon as you made them, You LOCKED the thread - typical of the self centered, dictatorial attitude that has ruined the Yeti section. WHY DID YOU NOT ASK US WHAT WE WANTED? We would have been pleased to discuss the options. But NO. Obviously you think the members need to be bullied into submission. Well not any more.
  2. I would like to add my thanks to all the Yeti members. This has been a great forum, very supportive and friendly. i no longer wish to be involved with moderators who think they must reorganise the Yeti section to the COMPLETE DETRIMENT of this very useful and informative part of Briskoda. Goodbye to all. Mike. PS I hope some of you can read this before it is moved into oblivion.

Lucky you, it is a great location. Half term will see us on the WH Heritage railway at Porthmadog with our three and five year old grandkids (shorter than the WH+ Ffestiniog so they don't get bored) A bit of advice from one who has owned a holiday home for 53 years. (Now living in it) Make sure that you can drain the water completely from your plumbing before packing up for winter. It gets very cold up there. When you find a trustworthy person who can keep an eye on your property, give them your phone number for emergencies. (Sorry if I sound booring) When we had oil fired heating fitted, I bought a phone switch. This would turn the boiler on using a coded phone call and the house would be warm by the time we arrived. (it only operated at 13 Amp so would be of little use for electric night storage)
  4. Sorry meant M56 - slip of finger. Llangollen and up the A5 through Corwen. First set of lights - straight on. Past Rug Farm Shop and on to Second set of lights (at the Druids) At the lights, filter left to Bala. As you come into Bala (after the 30 but before the town) Turn Right on to the A4212 Trawsfynydd road, past the White Water Centre and then fly over the mountain tops along the shores of Llyn Celyn (scene of many patriotic protests) Down to the Tee junction with the A470. Turn Right on to the A470 and then follow the A487 to Porthmadog. Through Porthmadog, then take a left at the Island opposite Kerfoots. A497 to Criccieth and Pwllheli. Through Criccieth, past Llanystumdwy and right on to the B4354 through Chwilog and Y Ffor to Nefyn. This is my favourite road from Manchester, particularly the A4212. It is quieter than the A55 and is a "driver's road" in every sense. beautiful scenery, decent straights and sweeping bends. We live about a couple of miles from Chwilog. I have suggested this route, via Bala, as the A5 past the Druids is not a brilliant road to Betws-y- Coed and, although it is the tourist route and very pretty, is a bu***r to drive. I avoid it as, at times, it would be quicker to walk. (but if you have plenty of time) it is an option. I have driven my suggested route for 50 years. It was opened up and improved when they built the Nuclear Power Station at Trawsfynydd and had to transport the heavy turbines and generators from AEI in Manchester. I find it a joy to drive.

The only point where I differ is on the rattling trim. Either I have been lucky and my 59 Yeti was put together by a 25 stone wrestler or, after the XT and a Terrano, I am used to the rattles. Either way it has not been a problem that has affected my Yeti. Having owned an ancient Land Rover SWB with a canvas roof everything else is just a silent bliss. Is that Rhyd or Rhyd Ddu near Beddgelert? You will find the Yeti ideal for Rhyd and the steep climb from the Oakley Arms. ( Rhyd, for the masses, is a tiny but beautiful village high in the hills with unbeatable views across the Glaslyn estuary)
  6. M56 - A55. Off at J10 Turn left at little island (on to A 487) and follow the road through Caernarfon towards Pwllheli (A499) then EITHER turn right after Trefor onto the B4417 (direct but very windy) OR continue to Y Ffor (FourCrosses) and turn right on to the B4354 (a much straighter route.) Great views of Anglesey, the Rivals (Yr Eifl) etc. Have a brilliant time!! And if you see a 59 Reg Cappucino SE140 4x4 then wave - it will be us Cheers Mike.
  7. Get a good road atlas and tour Wales, Scotland or the English National Parks. Go for the minor roads and enjoy our wonderful country. Richard Wilson has a series, currently shown on TV, showing some of the finer trips based on 1950s AA guides. Give it a try.

Why on earth did you not consider the implications before you bought a Yeti. I live in the "wilds" on the Lleyn peninsular where the Yeti is the perfect vehicle for the job, it handles the rough roads well, has seen me through two snowy and icy winters (without winter tyres!!!!???!!!) and has looked after us perfectly in the rougher conditions expected in the countryside. In the last five weeks I have had cause to stay in Manchester for the weekdays. I found the Yeti hard work in the traffic and the stop/starts did not suit it. Both my wife and I agreed that, if we came back to live in suburbia, we would exchange dear old Betty for a saloon or estate. The phrase "Horses for Courses" describes the situation perfectly. Referring to the "hard" ride. It may seem jiggly after a saloon suspension but it is perfect for the job it is designed to do. I had an X-Trail before Betty and I find the ride no worse. The firm suspension gives the car good road holding with very little roll on corners so driving on the A roads from Manchester to Lleyn is a joy. Driving the A55 or the M56 is just boring! So, while I understand your disappointment, I think you are not comparing the Yeti to a saloon in a fair manner, they are designed to do different jobs.
  9. Probably could not afford the train fare.
  10. The DSG gearbox really makes a difference. My 140 was £155 last year - think its £165 this year. A cheaper tax and free exercise changing gear!
  11. Let's hope they can shed some light on it. Sorry!!!!
  12. What an amazing safety feature - surprised nobody thought of it before. My guess is the same. Misalignment of the slip ring.
  13. Looks like fun. But I think you suburbanites miss the point. The Off Road button is designed to assist the car through difficult driving conditions - recovering from ditches when having to pull over on the narrow lanes, deep water and mud, and, of course, snow and ice. It gives better control in difficult conditions. I use the Off Road button fairly regularly around where I live and it's a great bit of (electronic) kit.
  14. I don't think the question is very relevant. Of course the Yeti is not as fast as, say, a Jag. But more relevant is the performance on the open road, my Yeti has enough "go" to pass safely and the road holding is so good that I can keep up a fast average on most A roads. The other point is that the Yeti is a joy to drive, comfortable over long distances, easy to handle and responsive. I have had to travel back to Manchester, every week, in this last month. I use the route via the Wrexham by-pass, across to the A5 and then, via Bala, to Porthmadog. The route has everything from windey bits to long straight stretches over the mountains. Now I look forward to the journey. I set the cruise control to 60 (+) and let the car do the work. Fantastic!
  15. I have fitted the Britax seat to the Isofix points without any problem to my Yeti. The fixing "loops" are well hidden under the backrest cushion. I did use the (Britax supplied) locating tunnels and, as they hook over the Isofix loops, they make re-fitting the seat a doddle. The Britax seat required a third fixing. A strap goes over the back of the seat and hooks on to another metal loop (not the lifting handle) that is marked for the purpose behind the lower back of the seat. One point, the Isofix loops are not directly behind the marker tabs on the seat but, if you pull the back cushion up, they are quite easy to see. I am not an expert on Isofix but I understood that the Isofix standard gives location points that are a prescribed type and a set distance apart so, in theory, any seat with Isofix should fit any car.
  16. The screen on my Bolero went blank having worked OK from start up this morning. Nothing showed, no reversing bars and no heater information and no visual for the radio but the radio worked fine. Then after a couple of stops the screen lit up and operated normally. Anyone else had this problem?
  17. I too moved from an x-trail to the Yeti and, apart from the small boot on the Yeti. miss nothing from the old Nissan. I presume you have altered the steering wheel angle and distance to help see the speedo? I can see all the dials OK on mine. I do miss that "shelf" in front of the XT speedo - very useful for bits such as sunglasses. I have a Halfords Sunspecs clip on my sun visor along with my Bluetooth speaker/mic. I don't miss the XT fuel consumption - 33 mpg The Yeti gives me 43-45 mpg. And I don't miss the way the XT scrubbed the inside of the front tyres. (I was told that it was the design and not the wheel alignment.) Overall give me the Yeti any day over the XT - it grows on you!!
  18. One advantage of the Brodit system is that you can update the phone/satnav holder without replacing the mounting on the car. In my case, I updated from a Nokia E71 to an E5 (the E5 is slightly wider) and had updated my car mount within two days - the new one was a direct replacement. If it was not for the price, I would recommend a Brodit mounting every time.
  19. Possibly good weather - It has been known in October. Peaceful roads now most of the holidaymakers have gone home. Most of the tourist attractions are still operating - depends what you like. And Snowdon is waiting to be climbed. Plus the best Yeti fleet in the country!!!
  20. It is claimed (on today's news) that Birmingham and West Yorkshire have the most uninsured cars - Oh dear, Oh dear. It goes without saying that our Yeti members are ALL well insured - Aren't they??? I think I will stick to my side of the Pennines for the moment. Only joking - or am I?
  21. None but it keeps your feet dry.
  22. Can't the folk in Essex afford bridges?
  23. There is nothing new here. There have been warnings about Catalytic Converters on petrol cars starting fires for about 15-20 years. DPF is just the same except that it probably only gets that hot when regenerating and not all the time like a CC. Yetis are like children - they embarrass you at every opportunity.
  24. NO- We are suffering from global warming - Why does nobody believe me? Well he has a 50% chance of being right and we have a 100% chance of being in the DOGGY DOO if he is.
