  1. In case anyone else stumbles on this in the future, I managed to get it working in the end. 2 things: 1) Make sure the Default USB Configuration is File Transfer (I believe mine was originally defaulting to "No data transfer" (https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/1011577-android-auto-drops-out-usb-preferences-issues.html) 2) The phone has to be unlocked before it's connected to the car - this was not the case with my previous Android
  2. That's good to know that it can support Android 11. I have a couple of things to try by enabling Developer Mode, and if not, I'll share a pic to that thread for software update check. Thanks!
  3. Yep the new phone has the "Add new cars to Android Auto" enabled. New Android 11 phone: I managed to connect the new phone briefly on a couple of attempts (out of many attempts) and the car shows in AA on the new phone. But then loses connection and goes back to Connecting status on the phone. Original Android 9 phone: still able to connect that fine, same cable. I did a factory reset in the car - same outcome.
  4. Hey everyone, I have a 67 plate Octavia VRS, with the Amundsen unit. Up until recently I was using my Android Auto via cable to my OnePlus 5 (Android 9) with no issue. I've since upgraded to a OnePlus 8T which has Android 11, but it's not being picked up by the car when I plug it in. It charges, but the car otherwise doesn't detect it's connected so I can't use Android Auto. Is there a way for me to check if there is a software/firmware update available for the Amundsen that might resolve it? (I have asked the dealership to check when it was in recently, but they seemed to forget and when I chased about it, I felt like I was fobbed off without them actually checking). TIA
  5. I have a 67 plate VRS with the detachable towbar and looking at towbar mounted bike racks. The Thule Velocompact 927 looks spot on, for 3 bikes. Has anyone here got one on their Octavia and can comment on it? Octavia manual says max distance from towbar is 70cm, the Thule's depth is 72cm. Just interested how people have got on with it Cheers
  6. I bought a 67 plate Oct VRS recently, less than 4k miles on the clock and had repeated trips back to the dealership (Inc on day of pickup!) with engine management light indicating an issue around emissions. Initial suspicions were a faulty lambda sensor (I'm sure I had this on my previous VRS too over the years), but changing made no difference so they replaced with a new catalytic converter which sorted it. Sounds like your dealer has gone in the reverse order. So I was pretty...miffed...that it needed a new cat when it's nearly new - dealer hadn't seen that before at such an age, but said they'd got the impression Skoda technical had encountered it before as they'd said to just do the new cat and were confident of it fixing it.
  7. I had the same issue with my OnePlus 5. Cable wouldn't stay in, and became a pain to even charge. Turned out, I had a load of crud in the port. Used a pin to scrape in the port and got a LOT of stuff out. Now it's good as new, cables stay in. Worth a try, checking your port. Even if it looks ok, might surprise you how much crap is crammed in there
  8. I was wondering the same about what this functionality was all about. For nav/traffic updates, I've not actually used the built in sat nav beyond day 1. With Android Auto, I've switched to Waze for most of the time, occasionally Google maps, if I want the satellite view. Seems like money for nothing
  9. +1. I test drove a Superb and it was noticeably quieter/more refined. Having said that, the new Mk3 VRS was noticeably quieter than my older Mk2 VRS.
  10. I'm on my second TSI VRS, and have a 7 and an 8 year old. I switched to the Octavia as my choice for a family car and it's spot on, hence recently switching my 2010 vrs for a newer 230 VRS. I did also look at the Superb Sportline but actually found it too big for what I need. I've never had an issue with space, the boot is vast. The only thing I went for with the new one, is a detachable towbar so I can stick a bike rack on now the kids are getting older. Around, great family car
  11. One thing to possibly bear in mind is any extra benefits you get - AA membership gets you discounts at a number of restaurants (e.g. 20% off Harvester), discount cinema tickets, 10% at Halfords etc. For me, the discounts more than cover the cost of my (basic) cover over the course of the year.
  12. Thanks. Long story short - a nearly new, approved used car I picked up on Friday is back in with an engine management light. It came on once on my way home after the pickup (!) so took it back then, only for them to just reset the light. Then it came on again the following day. Turns out it needs a new catalytic converter (10 months olds). Being repaired under warranty, but I'm peeved for a number of reasons about the whole situation and wanted to check whether there would be any truth in it *if* they claimed it was costing them money to fix
  13. Does anyone know whether repairs covered under the manufacturer's warranty, have any cost to the dealership that undertakes the repairs? Or do they get reimbursed in full?
  14. Now you mention it...I did find the handbrake position a bit weird!
