  1. had mY vREDS on since last year! North Scotland climate hasn't managed to wear them down to the point where they are good for another winter yet!
  2. tenuous link to the thread.... i did morocco (marrakesh) on a honda xl500 in the early 90's (i wonder why my back is wrecked!?) and intend doing a 5day 5000mile round trip scotland-marrakesh-scotland) on my ol' snorton commando to finally nail down an iron-butt tag next spring....hence i feel qualified to spout. 2 people camping gear etc, a 2wd yeti would cream it! in my not so humble opinion and it being morroco, you really wouldn't want to put yerself in a position where yer miles from help, offroad and needing assistance because you 4x4'd it onto a rock. *edit* anyone doing the trip who like to drop off pair of tyres and 1/2 a gallon of 10w/50 in marrakesh for me please don't be backwards in being forwards! i'll get them on the bike but it'll cause me grief!
  3. i'll 2nd and 3rd that statement.... fare thee well
  4. neat idea, unfortunately ma' wee beastie is gathering dust in uk at the minute as i've had to leave it behind in favour of a landcruiser in oman.... for the record, ma' wee beastie hoses said landcruiser for 99% of the time! cannae wait to get back to "feel" the difference. meanwhile ya'll have a good 'un
  5. sounds like it needs gently warming up...cruising at a sedate 45mph for an hour or 2..... then thrash the bejeezus out of it for 2 days straight. if there aint no oil in any of your other fluids then it can only be coming out of breather or being burned after passing through the rings. Giving the engine a good thrashing will allow internals to decarbonise and settle.
  6. Not guilty..... there are at least 10 or so SM's in and around the area by my reckoning
  7. i tow a 8 1/2 ft Ivor Williams box trailer with mine (trailer derated to 2000kg) and the car handles it very well.
  8. nah ah'm awah over at Tarland way... Victoria Garage Maud get mah shillings 'cos Specialist in tha toon is universally pants!! Vreds were bough in Tawse Tyres Inverurie and the spare set of Spitzbergs were bought over the internet (new). Ok so the whole lot came to an eyewatering 1100 notes but it's justifyable when taking into account the winter/wet/cold/ice tyre performance against lost time/insurance excess and all the palaver around not being able to get in to my work because o bad weather/winter slides. All I got to do now is learn to avoid deer! To the contrary Cappucino is the easiest wagon colour I've ever had to keep clean....mine was covered in crud from end of Nov to 2 wks ago and it didn't look minging even though it was.
  9. fortunately I'm usually too busy doing rather than doing and "capturing the moment"....
  10. 'ola folks..... tis been a while since i swung by. Mah wee beastie is still awesome even after clipping 2 vermin deer in seperate incidents this perversely allows me to testify that the SM crashes really well! Once again some tip-top service from the folks at Victoria Garage, Maud for fixing it up a good 'un. After some extreme winter driving (Vredestein Wintrac really are awesome) mah wee beastie has really earned it's spurs this last year or so, taking me across europe, up and doon scotland more times than I can remember.....several spots of iffy off roading just to prove it can...then finally hauling my backside through the muck and road sludge of the post mini ice-age we had in Aberdoomshire, the wee beastie hasn't missed a beat. Interesting to see the Yeti-mania spreading the analogue and digital worlds post Clarkson commentary....... Seeing how long it takes to lay yer hands on a new een I'm just glad I was in well ahead of the pack in getting mine. Hang loose folks!
  11. mrs commented one crisp morning that the seat heating on full was on a par with spooning....i've yet to be convinced of that though they are excellent
  12. hola folks...I haven't been in for a while though noted this with much (self) interest. DRL's are good on anything on the roads. Even in bright sunlight a vehicle in the shadow of a row of trees/hedge is going to be noticed a lot quicker with them on rather than off. Dunno about being a motorcyclist though as a biker (apart from my SM I run an old Norton and a new Guzzi) DRL's no matter what they are on = good Cheers Scunj
  13. whilst i too have waxed lyrical about the CR170.....oi shurrup about it will ya? too many folks is getting wind that there's more to the cr170 than meets the eye (great review though!)
  14. i too made the move from octy to snow monster and remain chuffed to bits with it
  15. Welcome to the fold. With reference to the percieved inferiority complex of having an SE I think it was George Orwell who penned the quote "All people are equal but some people are more equal than others." Jesting aside it's a superfine wagon your about to lay yer hands on
