  1. Mine DSG has just turned 40k, getting about 44mpg long term, and 50mpg on a run if I nurse it around 65mph. My old Mk1 130 1.9 with remap to 160bhp would get over 60.
  2. Hi guys, I need to remove the rear vents as my 3yr old filled them with sick earlier lol. I have popped the ashtray out and removed the two torx screws. The bottom half is free, but cannot get the top half off. I have attached a pic:
  3. Yeah I should get a refund actually, cos I told them it wasn't working before they started.
  4. Glove box and kick panel out, move the thick loom out the way if poss. It's tight down the very left of the dash. There's two connectors, top is temp sensor, bottom is for the motor, but try as a might I couldn't disconnect the plug. I just 'helped' the flaps into the fresh air position while pressing the recirc button. The motor won't open them again if I accidentally press recirc. Fan removal is easy, 2 phillips screws underneath and it slides down and out. This gives easy access to both flaps. I originally went in under the pollen filter but couldn't budge the flap.
  5. After reading another thread, I've checked the 14mm nut in the centre of the pump clutch is turning at the same speed as the pulley, and when I checked the nut was tight it was turning the pump.
  6. As someone said on the ukmkivs forum, the aircon will still work regardless of this fault. The air con pipes in the engine bay are not cold despite the pump and fan kicking in. However, after whipping out the glove box, and dropping the fan out, the recirc flaps where stuck shut. If you press the recirc button, the flaps will move when helped manually. Anyway, left them in the fresh air position as I never use recirc anyway. Started the engine with the fan out, and set the climatronic to lo. All of a sudden the pipes and matrix are freezing to the touch. The pipes under the bonnet are now cold. The air coming through the vents is ice cold! Joy! But after leaving it off for a while and coming back to it, warm again. Am I correct in thinking that if climatronic gets the aircon pump and fan kicking in, these pipes in the engine bay should be cold regardless of the rest of the system? This has to be a pump problem right?
  7. Just regassed, and as it was relatively cool by the time I left, just before 6pm, it felt ok. I've dug out the trusty old laptop with VagCom and hey presto: Climatronic 1 Fault Found: 01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71) 37-00 - Faulty
  8. Tried flicking between Auto and Econ a few times as mentioned in another thread but no joy :(
  9. 2001 VRS, air coming through the vents is ambient temp, if not warmer :( If I set the climatronic to Lo auto, the pump spins, the fan comes on and the revs fluctuate slightly. Went for Kwik Fit's recharge or no charge, the 2004 Leon in front of me had the disintegrated clutch on his pump, and the mechanic demonstrated what it should look like on mine to the owner. The machine removed a fair bit of gas indicating there are no leaks, and re-gassed. Still same problem :(
  10. Guy in Kwik fit reckoned you can lose 25% a year.
  11. Front driver's side window broke today in the Mrs's Silverline, door card off and one of the cables has snapped where it goes into the motor drive. A mate says this is a common problem on Mk4 Golfs, and he recently got a repair kit of eBay for around £30. Anyone ever repaired the regulator, rather than replace? I don't want to buy a 2nd hand one cos it could break again. Found this for £42 delivered for the Golf, does anyone know if it will fit? VW MK4 Golf Bora Window Lifter Regulator Repair Kit on eBay (end time 18-Sep-09 20:00:00 BST) Found this one specifically for the Octavia, but it's in Turkey. I only need the cable, but for less than £20 delivered, worth a punt? SKODA OCTAVIA WINDOW REGULATOR REPAIR KIT F&R 04-08:eBay Motors (item 180390301114 end time Aug-28-09 04:37:47 PDT)
  12. I managed 7.6 at Trax '05, and 7.6 with my Race Technolgy AP-22 Performance Meter, both with traction control off. Only mod is Carbonio CAI.
  13. My 51 plate VRS was serviced when I bought it cheap at 97k last April and I know that the plugs were replaced on top of the basic oil and filter change. It has FSH up to now, and the car drives like new. It's now on 105k and is telling me that it wants a service on the dash, but 8k seems a strange interval? Question is, what service does it want other than oil and filter? I've had a look at the schedule and can't make much sense of it. It's on the original timing belt, and the service schedule says change every 112.5k. My mechanic's computer tells him that it's part of the 120k service. I'd rather have the belt and tensioner done now for piece of mind, but has anyone known of any premature belt failures on the 1.8T? I'd love to go to my local Dealer but quite frankly they are useless. Cheers
  14. I would look at buying another grille off eBay or breakers, and mounting the lamps and steady bars to that... its only a couple of bolts to swap the grilles over, and you can keep your orginal one for 'best'
