  1. Farewell.

Sold my Yeti early March.  Advertised on Autotrader for £5100 ( they advised £5700 ). approx. 100 viewings but no follow up calls.  Sold to, ' We buy any car' just before Covid struck.

'Judder' problem never resurfaced after Haldex service ( including strainer & filter ).

I have a selection of articles and advertising literature relating to pre-release and early road testing plus original Skoda accessories lists etc. If any enthusiasts are interested you're welcome to them for the price of postage. Specific details on request.

Thanks to everyone who took an interest in my postings and offered advice, much appreciated.

    Take care and Goodbye.

PS. I am awaiting my son's 2017 plate Seat Ateca 190 DSG Diesel, Covid restrictions permitting.

  2. Update: Inspected the underside on ramp and coupling ring at haldex end of propshaft as suggested. No appreciable wear, slop or cracking evident on rubber or ring. Noticed o/ s front caliper was sticking , disc evidence of heat but ok. Front pads changed. Also rear n/s spring last half to three quarter inch broken off at bottom. No symptoms but replaced it anyway. Have not experienced symptoms since haldex clutch filter, strainer and oil changed. Could be coincidence. Only time will tell. Thanks for interest and suggestions.
  3. Update, as promised: Visited main dealer and asked to speak to mechanic regarding the intermittent juddering ( which started this topic ) Was told mechanic was too busy. Receptionist took my written description of the problem into the workshop. Returned saying mechanic said car needed new PROPSHAFT. The rear coupling had failed. Cost to fix approx £ 540. To my mind a failed propshaft would not give intermittent symptoms. Took car to a local independent VAG specialist. They test drove it and did various checks. Their conclusion was that it either had a buckled wheel or the wheels needed balancing. I explained that the juddering was not continuous and that I had driven the car at speed the day before without experiencing any shaking/juddering. This did not affect their diagnosis/conclusions. Not convinced I brought the car home. I did have the HALDEX CLUTCH filter and strainer cleaned and oil replaced whilst at the VAG garage. ( Car had done 30K miles since previous haldex service done at 28K miles. ) Since then I have experienced no problem and have driven at speed. This could all be coincidental but the problem to date has gone away...let's hope for good. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  4. Interesting. Mine is also on original exhaust system. More and more reported possible causes... But, ironically no nearer to cause and solution. This suggests there can be many and different reasons for these symptoms. Eventually it will be sorted. In the meantime l'll try to be patient!
  5. Thanks for latest responses. Interesting to read and pleased you identified the causes and have fixed them. My car has mysteriously ' got better'... But for how long!? I promise to post if it happens again and l get it sorted.
  6. Thanks once again for responses and suggestions. Symptoms are very intermittent, frequency has reduced but can still come on and exactly as Andy Sayle describes. Interestingly, he has the same model as me. Using Premium diesel might have helped or is that just coincidental. Will continue to update the saga when there's more to tell. HOWARD
  7. Mechanic has test driven the car enthusiastically for about 10 mls with me on board and, sods law..... no juddering. Underside examined. Weights still on propshaft. No further forward but he rules out Haldex & Propshaft because the symptoms would not be intermittent. Remote chance of injector/s dropping out but there is no drop off in performance which makes this an unlikely cause. Agreed to drive straight to garage for investigation if and when it recurs.
  8. Progress update: In response to suggestions: 1 Car inspected on garage ramp. 2 Weights on prop shaft amidships. No marks to indicate any missing. 3 Test drove about 8 miles with mechanic and myself driving. Gave the car a good work-out and there was no sign of judder. 4 Agreed to take car straight in when symptoms re-appear. Intermittent nature of problem rules out Haldex and Prop-shaft, in his opinion. Mechanic wonders if it could be ABS fault. Will post any developments if and when! Thanks again for all responses.
  9. Yes to both questions / suggestions. Michelin Cross Climate in good order, done 16K mls. Haldex oil changed March 2014 at 28614 mls . Now done 60k. So assume they're not the problem. Thanks for response, bigjohn.
  10. Thanks, Weasley. I will pursue your suggestion. If I dipped the clutch whist experiencing symptoms would it stop the prop shaft spinning or does it continue to spin, which would mean the judder continues? I much appreciate your quick response and will update when it's sorted.
  11. I have owned my Yeti 59 plate 170 diesel from new and done 60k. Recently its developed a judder coming on at approx 60mph. The vibration transmits through the body and steering and gets worse if speed is increased. Had wheels balanced and re-checked, tyres checked with no result. New discs and pads. Power is unaffected. My mechanic is at a loss to diagnose it and so am I !!! Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks
  12. On return from holiday (car not driven for 3 weeks) noticed piece of spring and rubber cup on drive behind rear wheel. Looked underneath and saw broken spring tilted over and wrapped round driveshaft. Jacked car up leaving wheel on the ground and managed to screw the spring out. Broken top and bottom! Drove slowly to garage! Advised to replace both sides. On collection told and shown both were broken and from corrosion it had obviously snapped a while ago! No sign or sound of breakage previously whilst driving. Owned from new, 59 plate, 45k, never off- roaded. Never over-loaded, tows caravan carefully and within weight limits. Replaced with Sachs springs. Going in for 4 door respray plus seals and foils under warranty in a fortnight. Happy ending of sorts.... Wish I had kept my Ibiza Cupra Sport 2 L GTI which went under Scrappage..To be kind to the Environment...But that's another story,eh.
  13. Update... Took Rustynuts up on his offer and visited him Friday evening to VCDS my car to see if Fault Codes revealed anything re- the strange behaviour of my Heater/ AC. Nothing came up. Compared my AC coldness with his and mine was noticeably colder so probably only needs re-gas which I will do. Heater malfunction remains a mystery so will raise with the garage when the AC gets done. Thanks again Rusty.
  14. Thanks for your offer. I live in darlington. not sure about the protocols for contact /whether this reply is private etc. how do we contact each other directly? Thanks
  15. I know that this subject is well documented so please bear with me whilst I come at it from a different angle... My 59 plate Yeti circa 40k owned from new has started blooming on the lower doors, all below the rubbing strips with 2 small dots above the strip which I suspect will develop in time. The rest of the body's paintwork is un-marked. My question is this.... Anticipating that Skoda will claim the 3 year paint warranty has expired.. 1. Do I challenge them on the grounds that it's not "paint" but bodywork or even merchantable quality and therefore not limited to 3 year warranty 2. Do I concede and say ok you won't cover it and sort it out so I'll wait to see if it corrodes right through and claim on the 12 year anti- perforation warranty. It would surely and obviously be much cheaper for them to fix it now than deal with rusted through bodywork. As always, any replies will be welcomed even if the responses to my suggested options just say, ' I'm PI***NG into the wind!'
