  1. Great advice, my gf got a Fabia 1.4 16v last year and it hasn't exactly been plain sailing but then I knew there would be things to sort on it as that was why we we paid less for it. I am planning a major service in a couple months time for it and so will use this as a guide. The inlet manifold is definitely coming off, because if the state of the EGR was anything to go by then it will be chock full of gunk! The vehicle still stalls randomly and struggles a bit when pulling away so I looking at what it might be. I am about to replace the fuel filter and I am tempted to replace the air flow senor although I would like to think this was all a sypmtom of gunk in the mainfold.
  2. Where is the filter located? I just bought one and was wondering if I could fit it this week or have to wait until I do the proper service
  3. No codes but I didn't change the filter, it needs a major service in the next couple of months so I guess it will be worth doing that as well as the cambelt and standard stuff.
  4. Christ after a week of being fine the bloody thing is cutting out again. How come changing the pump seemed to fix it for a week yet now it's playing up again?! Wondering if it may be something else now. Car almost stalls when pulling away so maybe that may be somewhere to look at. Air flow meter problems perhaps?
  5. Ha ha how weird is that?! my guess is that maybe the pump is serviced and reassembled wrongly so I was planning to do what you suggested and swap the wires over at the plug, just told the gf to just keep it topped up in the meantime Cheers for your help
  6. oh but one more thing, my gf told me that the fuel meter now goes up when she uses fuel?! how is this happening? the sender unit can't be put wired up the wrong way because of the shape of the fitting can it?
  7. You were right, turns out it was the pump! £22 delivered off of ebay and a 5 minute job.... although sitting above an open fuel tank for those few moments is slightly unerving! Cheers Fabrel
  8. Hi all I have a fuel pump for a 1.4 16v comfort that I need to replace the old one with this weekend and was wondering if there are any precautions or specialist tools i need? As there is fuel involved I want to be extra careful and at the same time I don't want to introduce any air bubbles into the fuel line. any advice on how to do it would be appreicated. thanks
  9. looks clean but never tried silicon spray before, will give that a go, after that a new seal.
  10. Got a leak across the drivers side door seal which you can clearly see when it's been raining. Happens when the car is leaning to the left when parked so that it runs into the drivers side. The seals look fine so thought I could just move the door pin slightly but as the bolt holes are counter sunk it goes back to the same position every time. Have yet to take off the door card but can the lock be moved at all in order to tighten the seal? Have seen a YouTube video suggesting pulling on the top of the door to bend it slightly but that sounds dodgy!....any help appreciated.
  11. Attempted this again today, got it off fairly quickly. Basically you don't need to take off any screws just snap the centre black plastic piece that would sit behind the handle. It's only there to hide the mechanism/stop stuff catching but you can then get pliers on it. Unfortunately even after prying the glove box lid open (which was glued) the mechanism was bust and to save messing around with glue and make do bits I'm just going to spend a tenner at the scrap heap and replace it.
  12. ok thanks for the picture, its slightly different from mine but good to know you have done the same. I found a skoda servicing document online that said it would be position 15 or 5 which would be the one I was planning to replace. going tofit it tomorrow and hopefulyl that will sort it, if not then its the pump that is up for the swap!
  13. That's interesting, its done 105,000 miles so may be the problem, when you replaced the relay how did you identify it or did you have a garage do it? Im thinking the relay i have at the minute is only £6 so might as well fit it (providing it is the fuel pump relay I am replacing!). I will have a look at replacing the fuel pump if that doesn't solve it.
  14. Ok still yet to change this damn relay, just spoke to skoda and they can't tell me which location it is either! Only that it will be labelled 410 or 4/167 and its a hefty £62 from them! On the flip side my gf is adamant that the stalling problem (which I suspect is the relay) only occurs when the fuel tank is low?!......not sure how that makes sense unless it's too do with pressure in the line and the fuel filter but if anyone knows any better then please shout. My guess is it's just coincidence.
  15. Forgot to say I took the cap off the existing relay and it looked clean, rubbed down the contacts anyway but can this be expected? the car is still playing up and randomly cutting out
