Sadly the time has come to dispose of our Felicai 1.3. 6 months ago I replaced the throttle body and coil pack at considerable expense. I was wondering whether it would be worth removing them frrm the car before she goes to the scrap heap in the sky. Any ideas on what I could flog them for? Thank you Z.

This sounds very similar to the problems we've had with out Felicia. Our usual garage couldn't find abything wrong and put it down to "character". Took it to a VAG speciallist and initially they couldn't find any faults. As they said the Felicia's a basic car and doesn't store intermittent fault codes like a more modern car might. Went to drive it home and it would idle at 2,000 rpm. A blip of the throtle settled it down. But next time you lifted of the throttle it would stay at 2,000 until you blipped it again. Drove back to the specialist and this time they could find an error code. They replaced the throttle body and the idling was OK, but the misfire was still there. A new coil pack and all seems well. Cost probaly as much as the car is worth, but then if I scrapped the car, Which Mrs Z loves, and I quite like as well, any replacement would cost far more than the garage bill. Although I do fancy a Fabia next time.

There's no sound whatsoever. No clicking from the solenoid, nothing. Then when you fiddle with the key and get lucky she starts instantly as always. I donlt think it;s the strater motor or ring gear as the symptoms are exactly the same as last time. I've bitten the bullet and booked her into the garage for tomorrow as my wife needs the car for work. Also, we're away for afew days next week. The last thing I want to do is worry about the car starting every time we come to use it. I'd like to know about the push button starter though. The kits on ebay seem cheap enough and I might well fit one to give the ignition switch an easier life. Especailly as Mrs Z must start the car 10-12 times a day for 4 days a week. Anyone fitted one to their car. Do you have to remove the ignition switch to fit it, or can you link into the wiring somewhere more accessable? Thanks as always Z.

Slightly less than 2 years ago we had the ignition switch on our 1998 Felicia 1.3 replaced. The key would turn but the stater motor would not work. Now it's doing the same thing. Somtimes it'll start but other times it turns all the way but will not start the engine. Turn it back a little and she'll go. However, It sometimes takes 5 or 6 attempts. My wife uses the car for work. She's avisiting care worker, so lots of stops and starts throughout the day. Is there anything else likely to be at fault, or have I got to shell out another £240 to have it replaced at the local garage. Should I budget for a new swicth every 2 years? Yours, more than a little peeved. Z.

No, it's not been nicked, but recently it seems like the engine misses a beat a couple of times when first starting out on a journey. We have a 1998 1.3ltr fuel injected Felicia. It seems to be at lowish revs when one takes ones foot off the accelerator. There's a drop in revs and then everything is back to normal. It doesn't do it on every journey. It seems to occur when one is pootiling around town at low speeds. My wife's not noticed it when she's driving and I wonder if it my be me. Perhaps I'm touching the pedal and the car lurches a little until the revs pick up more. The tickover is very low on a Skoda and it feels like the engine is about to stall but then it's running again. Once the engines warm it doesn't happen again,. Any tips would be most welcome. Z.

Well, that was easier than I expected. About an hour from start to finish, including faffing about getting everything I'd need form the garage. Hardest bit was persuading the pistons that they wanted to retract. Eventually they agreed. Thank to all who replied. It was certainly easier than the Haynes manual led me to believe.

Hello, I am going to check the brake pad wear on the front brakes of our 1.3 1998 Felicia. I think that they'll need to be replaced. I've changed pads on other cars and bikes, but that usually just needs the retaining pins to be removed and the pads taken out. The Haynes manual makes the method for the Felicia seems rather more complex. Is it so, or am I just worrying too much. Any tips and advice would be more than welcome. Thansk, Z.

Hello All, Can anyone tell me the name of the little square plastic clips that are pushed into the metal sheeting that covers the underside of the engine bay please. A screw is insrted to attatch a smaller plate to the larger plate. The curved plate that coverss the bottom end of the drive belts on our Felicia fell off. We recovered the plate, but the clips seem to have aged with time and are a loose fit in the square holes. I've tried the local motor factors but they don't stock them. I'll scour e-bay but without knowing what they're called I'm lost. Thanks in anticipation. Z.

That's good news. I don't really like trying to trace obscure electrical faults. Now I don't have to. Thanks to all who replied. -
Low Idle Speed - Stalling

Hello, It's the MPI model. Out and about running errands this morning and it seems OK. Starts easily and apart from a lowish tickover seems good. Perhaps it's !"character" . Kind regards Z.
