  1. Hi Andy, I actually binned the docket that came with the pipe, but I will check the pipe to see if there is a unique part no. on it and will post up the details tomorrow. The additional problem was that the pipe did not come with the O ring I needed. The mechanic working on my car had to get one custom made :( Crimson
  2. Guys it's been quite a few months since I updated this thread I finally got this problem resolved, unfortunately I was not able to get a resolution on the forum I took it down to the local Skoda dealer and blagged a "Skoda certified Mechanic" to take it for a test drive I advised the mechanic to have the windows opened so he could hear the hissing while boosting he replied "aye mate" fumbled for the window controls but didn't actually open the windows, So I opened them for him He then heard the hissing but agreed he could not notice any power loss either but adivsed the hissing was not normal He opened the bonnet checked around the engine after confirming it hissed when the car was revved when stationary He discovered a bit of oil on an area of the engine which concerned me and he advised he had found a cracked air pressure pipe I then dreaded the cost of the new pipe and fitment, so I let him get me a quote for the part which was hilarious as both a Skoda mechanic and parts manager found it very difficult to identify which replacement part I needed from the Skoda parts system evetually they agreed on an air pressure pipe with a generic part no. and I ordered it. I then asked how much it would cost to replace and got a reply from a service assistant of "it could take anything from 30mins to 5hrs" after he spoke behind the scenes to a "Skoda Mechanic" and the base charge rate was £37 per hour I therefore said "dont worry about it I'll get the part and get it fitted elsewhere" A week later I got the part and took it to a guy who had worked on Skodas before and he phoned after an hour to say there was no cracked air pressure pipe it was a missing "o" ring from the pipe they ruled as cracked The car is running great now - but my lesson learned from this issue was not to automatically go to a car dealer that is supposed to specialise in your car as this doesn't necessarily mean they will fix or diagnose your car to the standard you would expect!
  3. I had this problem with my MK Golf GT TDI every few weeks the coolant light would appear and I confirmed no gunge on my oil cap which rules out head gasket and it turned out to be a cracked radiator, you wont see any leaks as the coolant evaporates within mins of dripping out of the radiator see if you can check the radiator grille
  4. Check the air con works correctly (my dad found this out the hard way) by ensuring it blows cold air when set to cold in climatronic Take each car you look at for a test drive and make sure it is boosting correctly - if it overboosts and wont go over a certain speed it most like has a cracked pipe or a dirty/faulty EGR valve When air con is running turn the radio off and listen for any strange noises - seems to be a known issue with them make sure all wipers work and windows switches work correctly - known issue in '05/06 VAG cars the Octavia is a solid car with very little road noise compared to a Ford mondeo, I was actually comparing a Mondeo ST and the Octavia before I bought one and the Octavia is an all round better car
  5. This post seems to deal more with TFSI engines lad My VRS is a PD TDI
  6. ROTFLMAO!! don't talk to me about boy racers, While I was cleaning up the VRS last weekend I heard this awful straight through exhuast rasp and then a dumpvalve hiss and looked up to see a chav revving the life out of a poor MK4 Golf GTI T, I think he was trying to impress me, next his bint stepped out of the car looking at me to see if I was impressed, I laughed and continued cleaning the car LOL!!!
  7. Thanks for your post Countryboy, it's definately more informative and helpful than TsvRS' As far as I can see the performance is grand, getting also 43 - 48 MPG on AVG Yes the loud hissing is at it's loudest when hitting 2000 - 2500 revs, Im not sure if it disappears when the revs rise - I'll check that tonight Im just not used to hearing this from a diesel - I would've expected a bit of turbo chatter and then a wastegate woosh when changing gear?
  8. That's not really the answer I was looking for yes yes St Patrick blah blah got rid of snakes lookin for a serious answer on this mate
  9. Guys, I have had my Octavia II Vrs for about 4-5 months now and only noticed when having the windows open with the recent weather that there is quite a loud hissing whilst changing gears and boosting, but no wastegate dumping noise? Is this normal for a Vrs or could it be a cracked/loose pipe somewhere. I was considering briging the car into Skoda to check this out, but dont want to waste money when the noise may just be normal. Any ideas? Thanks. Crimson
  10. Skoda Octavia VRS MKII

  11. Thanks for the welcome guys, yeah my thread seemed to post twice with no text in it - must have been the server crash, you just cant seem to get good IT staff these days LOL (I work in IT) I recently purchased an Octavia VRS MKII and I have to be honest it is by far the best car I've ever had and Im currently persuading my mate to go for an Octavia instead of a Passat. I find that most VW's these days are very bland, even the higher spec ones. I had a MK5 GT TDI Golf before the Octavia and it was the most bland car I've ever had - really disappointed with it. When I jumped into the Octavia VRS I was very surprised with the solid build quality and lovely finish compared to all the VW's I had tested. I will definately be changing to a MKIII in a few years Skoda FTW!
