Made a few hundred quid on it which can't be bad... Pretty sure I can't afford an ST for the time being unfortunately, the Octy was stretching my budget as it is. Thinking just a 1.6/1.8 for a few years until I get out of Uni should be a good laugh. Sold it through AutoTrader, the theiving b***ards.

I'm not going to go through the whole list of things that needed doing, but in terms of the way it drove I think I've got used to more adjustable and resposive cars through the corners, the Octy just felt really heavy and 'sloppy' for a 'hot hatch'. I'm sure a well sorted one is a really good car, maybe I just bought a bad one.

Well, after just 6 weeks of my Octavia vRS, I've sold it. Really disappointed with it, back in a Ford soon I think. Thanks for the help and advice guys&girls.

If the turbo is covered under your policy, you shouldn't have too much trouble claiming for it. If it's not listed as something they cover, my guess is that you may have a little bit of a fight on your hands. Suffering a few turbo issues at the moment, so I have a lot of sympathy for you :p Best of luck with getting it sorted, and like I said, if it's covered in the policy then they don't have much choice but to pay out...

Thanks for the advice, Not a member of a breakdown service unfortunately. Quick update - it's all gone horribly wrong. Can hear the turbo spooling up, but slowly judders its way forward, and when you lift off the gas pedal, it seems to accelerate strongly for a brief moment. Very 'jerky' and hesitant. Going to try get it on a diagnostics somewhere if I can get out of work for a little bit tomorrow...dreading the worst. Any ideas what it could be? Just hoping its not the turbo itself...really don't think I can justify spending that kind of money getting it sorted.

Hi guys, wondering if you could help me... I've had a search on these forums to try and find something similar, but with no luck. By all means if there is something else on here then 1) shout at me, and 2) point me in the right direction? =P Only had my 2001 Octavia vRS a week or two, was driving up to meet a friend when I noticed the Engine Management light had come on. The Temperature guage also hit rock bottom at this time. Within 30 seconds or so, then temperature guage had come back up to somewhere in the middle, but the engine management light is still on. Still starts and drives, feels a little down on power to me and seems to be boosting pretty inconsistently, but has been similar to this since I bought it. As it still drives I figured it can't be anything too serious...just wondering what your opinions are? Cheers guys, Lewis.

Bought a Red one, but couldnt really afford to be fussy because of my budget constraints. Bit of polish and some elbow grease and it should come out quite nicely... I owned a Seat Leon around 9 months ago, so I'm getting used to all the niggly VAG troubles again :p A word on the cambelt...It was sold on eBay as having had one done, there is a Gates sticker with a date and milage that fit in to what service history there is with the car, (around 18 months ago...) how genuine do you think this is? Should there be a cause for concern? Got some new tyres fitted today, went for some Falkens, again due to my budget constraints. Havent really had a chance to test them out due to the snow! Not sure whether to keep the car yet. If i do then I think I'll have the cambelt done just for peace of mind really...the guy was adament it has been done, but I think everyone would be in this situation.

Picked up a 2001 Octavia vRS this weekend, sensible milage, sensible price. Few little things I plan to get sorted on it within the coming few weeks or so... 1) Booked in for a new set of front tyres, almost ironically had to drive 15 miles in the snow tonight on the bald ones... 2) Sort the Wipers! Found a really good thread on here about cleaning/regreasing the linkage etc. Hopefully should be able to manage it. 3) Thorough service/valet. 4) Sort out a few niggly little rattles and intermittent wierd noises... 5) If I decide on keeping it, a remap? Not the most exciting thread in the world I know, should keep my busy for a bit though...

Hey all, Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm in Bristol, going to be picking up my '01 Octavia vRS this weekend. Cant wait... There's a few little tweaks I've been eyeing up on these forums, might have to wait a little while though, insurance is a little bit steep for an 18 year old Anyways, I'll update this post after the weekend when i've got it.
