  1. Has anyone tried to use chains on the FL VRS with the 18" wheels? I would imagine its even more difficult with larger wheels?
  2. i have exactly the same noise on mine.... i have a '10 vrs dsg and i started to get a droning noise at about 30,000 but on the passenger side for me. it seems to be a cycling noise its hard to explain on here i guess and i sound like an idiot when i try to do the noise to people too!! anyway i have got to 38'000 and finally had chance to take it to the dealers and they have diagnosed the exact same thing. they said they would order one and give me a call... i hope it solves the problem as the noise is finally driving me insane!! any other news on yours?
  3. March '10 VRS CR DSG Hatch Dunlop Sportmaxx Never had a problem never been to the dealer. Got the fronts replaced at 20k Both rear tyres are now worn on the extreme inside of both tyres on only the last inch or so. This was unnoticeable when the tyres were on the car even when you used your hand to check the tread. This problem seems to be related to extremely bad camber set up. The dealer have said tyres are not a warranty item and they wont replace them They have said they will look at the geometry when it goes in for a service this week (will be requesting a copy of the printout) They have also said they haven't seen tyres worn in this way or by this degree before (will get this in writing) but have seen "a number" of worn tyres on VRS models. Skoda UK have initially said they wont do anything about the tyres. But they seemed to blame sawtoothing (which this isnt). Im going to ring them again tomorrow and update them with what the dealer has said and pursue this further.
  4. 1. not got auto lights so probably not that useful for me then as it seems a little of a faff for not a lot of gain i guess its more useful when leaving home than coming back. 2 would go with option 2 and have steering indicator and reversing. 3. would go with the hazards can the car do the thing you see on audis etc where the headlight on the side you are indicating dims while you are indicating? think the rest of the stuff you mentioned i can do with the maxidot stuff or is stuff thats on already and want to keep on! anyone else got any stuff they have turned on \ discovered that they have found useful? know of anyone in my area that could do it for me?
  5. Ok i want to know if some of this is possible with my spec etc. i have '10 VRS TDI hatch DSG Sat Nav Maxidot Bluetooth MDI Can i turn on \ use with the help of VCDS? Coming home lights (external lights on when unlock etc) Cornering Fogs Emergency Braking Hazards Any other cool\useful stuff that i may want..... And if so is there any helpful VCDS owner in the Barnsley\Donny\Rotherham area who could sort it out in exchange for a few milkybar tokens?
  6. this is what i thought. no one can be expected to have the camber of their brand new car checked. It should be correct when delivered (either from the factory or checked by the delivering dealer) i will be getting the alignment done for free and will be pushing to have the tyres paid for as they have prematurely worn out which is not my fault in any way. not to mention the fact that it must be out by a hell of a way and the wear it caused is dangerous at the least. when inspecting the tyre as a normal road user you could not be expected to notice that sort of damage (even a casual inspection from a specialist might not have seen this unless on the ramps) they tyres could have worn through and had a blow out and killed me and my family without even anyone noticing the tyre was worn in this way. not very happy at all. i will be ringing skoda in the morning and pursuing this until i get some sort of resolution.
  7. ok heres the pics this is the drivers side http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottguymer/5398873498/ and this is the passenger side (this one is worse) http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottguymer/5398269915/ as you can see its only the very inside edge thats worn on them and the rest of the tyre still has loads of tread depth left.
  8. ive had mine changed today as im sure they were dangerous went to the local skoda dealer to have this done so they could look at the tyres themselves. the service manager had a look as well as the technician and i have photos of the tyre wear. as i understand it sawtoothing is uneven wear across the tyre and this is definatly NOT that. its the very last inch of the tyre is bald and the rest is fine. the manager said he hadnt seen anything like that before and was definatly not what he thought it was when i described it to him on the phone the technician said it wasnt right and a tyre shouldnt wear like that and it would certainly be the camber that was out and as both rear tyres were affected then it must have left the factory like that. (also as the damage would indicate they are angled in at the top then it cant be a kerb as it would kick the bottom in not the top - makes sense to my mind) i have asked them for something to this effect in writing and im keeping the tyres themselves and have photos of them on and off the car. they are servicing the car on tuesday and they will be looking at the camber (and hopefully will get them to do a 4 wheel alignment too) the results of this will go together with the other stuff i have collected and i will be giving skoda a little ring to further the call i had logged on friday. i think this is a different problem to the sawtoothing but i could be wrong ill attach a couple of pics in a while so people can give me their thoughts. or if this is what other people have been experiencing and their geometry is correct then there is a deeper issue wth the design of the car itself and it will continue to eat tyres from now on.
  9. I have just run into this same issue today. I have a '10 VRS with the dunlops on, the car has done ~20k and have already had the fronts replaced due to normal wear (ie all the way across the tread) i had personally checked the backs and all the tread i saw\felt on the type was more than enough. however today i had a blister on one of the fronts and after kwik fit had quoted me an insane amount for a tyre i had them put on the spare. when driving in they noticed the wear on the rears. the guy said he saw the steel banding in the tyre. I spoke to my main dealer and they said they have seen a lot of this on this model and the warranty wouldn't cover the tyres. so i spoke to skoda UK and explained and argued that the geometry was obviously off or there was an inherent design flaw with the car. they said they had a common problem called "sawtoothing" (ie *******s) and tried to tell me that it was normal and that the dealer would swap the tyres round. anyway after some talking and arguing they logged a call and i have to get the geometry checked at the local skoda dealer. on inspection now its only when you put your whole hand round the tyre that you can feel the last inch is totally bald but the rest of the tyre is WELL above the limit (4mm +) its obvious to me that this is either bad setup from the factory or a design flaw in the car causing uneven wear to the tyres. from what i can understand about sawtoothing this affects the the tread across the whole tyre. the issue with mine is simple the last inside inch being completely worn and the rest being ok. it would be IMPOSSIBLE for potholes to knock both rear camber settings out by the same amount in opposing directions to cause similar tyre wear on both sides. (even if it would be possible the chances of this happening to 2 cars of the same make and model running the same tyres and causing almost identical damage is certainly impossible, if skoda claim this then we should all buy lottery tickets as we would have more chance of winning that) if anyone has found a resolution to this or has also logged calls with skoda that i can reference whilst talking then let me know. as far as i can see it there seems to be 4 people that can potentially get me the money back for the tyres. 1. my local dealer (if i whinge enough even though they are not obliged but if they want my return custom) 2. Skoda UK (if its a factory setup or inherrent flaw with the geometry) 3. Dunlop (if its a problem with the tyre design) 4. SKoda Finance (if you can prove the goods sold are unsuitable, is there a time limitation on this law?) im certain i can get one of these parties to stump up the goods. has anyone else had any success on this issue?
  10. i can second that! i have the exact same problem its like a insect graveyard! with a few splatterings of the bird poo i think the birds like to use white cars for target practive!! take a lot of washing but well worth it!
  11. the guy where i took them too didnt seem too confident! maybe he just couldnt be arsed or summat! im going to pick it up later so we will soon see!
  12. ahh yeah that makes sense! i thought maybe someone else would have had a similar problem or maybe someone who refurbs wheels would know. im not gonna do it myself, i have done repaird before (bodywork etc) and know how to do it all but just dont have the time or the inclination anymore, would rather pay for a spot on job the company im getting to do it are gonna strip them down and refinish them completely just thought i might be able to help out with a colour code.
  13. My wheels have been kerbed and im getting them repaired and the guy repairing them said he couldn't find out the colour code. So i would like some help proving him wrong if possible! They are the standard '18 alloys on a 2010 VRS
  14. ok thats reassuring! i just wanted to make sure it was normal. didnt want the door filling with water. im guessing if i leave it on the hill without moving it th water will sit there until the door is opened or the car moves? im also guessing that this isnt a good situation!
  15. ive noticed that after a bit of rain if i open the drivers door the water p****ses out of the very front bottom edge of the drivers door (passengers too i think). i park on a pretty steep hill outside the mrs house and thats where ive noticed it but if i park pointing up the hill it still comes out of the front edge of the door. ive not noticed it on the flat drive at home but i dont think ive been there and opened the door when its rained. ive got a '10 vrs. anyone else noticed this happening?
  16. ahh ok! thats good i use that all the time will be staying on! it wasnt an option to turn it off in my golf. they could have made it a little more apparent!!! what does comf. mean?????
  17. Could anyone tell me what this does? can t seem to find it in the manual. and I've had a good root around the forum and nothing. I'm guessing its something to do with indicators? but what? unless its something obvious and I'm being daft!
  18. Thanks guys. just wasn't sure if it was normal or not - wasn't like this on my golf. but the comment about the seat belt switch wire makes sense to me! Didn't even occur to me!
  19. passenger side Drivers side any one noticed this on their 2010 VRS? just worried about it wearing the leather on the passenger side, should it be covered like on the drivers side?
  20. so is the tuner integral to the columbus unit and just need to plug in an aerial and update the software or is the tuner separate to the main unit and needs pluggin in to it and then the software switched on\updated to communicate to it?
  21. so is it possible to buy\fit a tuner to the columbus system? its mentioned in my manual for it but was never an option. would think its an awesome feature for those long traffic jams! (would keep the mrs quiet anyway!)
  22. is getting this stuff activated going to cost me? what is there i can get activated so i can turn it on and off in the maxidot?
  23. yeah i have the sat nav and the phone intergation and they are all available on the maxidot and are excellent but i was more interested in other setting that i could play with!
  24. Ok So i have my new VRS drivenit for a while now i want to play with the settings! but no wait what can i set in the maxidot?? err..... not a lot! all i seem to be able to change is the DRL and whether all the windows come down on the key or just the drivers i had been told about being able to turn the alarm beep off and open all doors on first unlock been told about cornering fogs and lots of other stuff. Am I missing something here or should all these options be in the maxidot system or do they need to be turned on? or is this a case of how much is it going to cost me to turn them on? can anyone tell me what i can set with the maxidot? ie a total list of what should be available? and how i make them available?
  25. i have a new VRS in white with the leather seats not got any pics for you at the minute but you wont be disappointed. i was a bit wary about the white looking like a taxi but it doesnt looks great in the sun! the leather is a no brainer at £800 really especially if you have kids, those light coloured sections on the standard ones will last seconds! what would you like pic of?
