  1. Thanks 'Welsh_kai_boy' nearly had a heart attack. Pullup and thought I'd have quick look at the fuses. Pulled on the cover but needed a screwdriver. Thought I'd give it one more tug with my finger........................ The Alarm went off in my.......... Said a naughty word and managed to switch it off. I'll give it another look when i'm away from all the neighbours. But at least it still operates. Thank again, RoystonB
  2. Hi All, Alarm not sounding. I think it started after I tried to see if my windows would close if left open and car locked when it started raining. Whilst sitting in the car and I opened the windows as it started to rain. I locked the doors by pressing the fob, but about 30 seconds later the alarm sounded and lights flashed, so I pressed the Fob to turn it off. I didn’t realise that I had to switch off the internal motion detectors first. Now it seems that only the lights flash when the alarm is set off. Had a look through New Octavia tips and tricks hoping to find a solution to my problem, but no luck. Nor with the Instruction Book. Doing what I did, could I have switched off the sound part of the Alarm? Anyone know a solution to get back the sound. Many thanks, RoystonB
  3. Hi All, Am on a break staying at a hotel near the coast. Parked and locked the car and checked in. About 30 mins later get a call from reception to say my hazard lights were operating. Then during the call she said, that they had now stopped. During the next couple of day they have come on a number of times for no apparent reason. Any ideas, why my hazard lights should come on when parked and locked. All Doors and windows are closed, boot closed, wing mirrors automatically folded in. Would there be an underlying reason? Many thanks, RoystonB
  4. Hi All, Have moved to Portugal and have taken my 2010 Octavia 1.9Tdi Elegance with me. Part of the importation system is to have an extensive MOT to show conformity. (even though I have a Certificate of Conformity from Skoda) One of the things I was told I should do before the MOT is to remove the Cover from the Engine as they do not do any mechanics. Not wanting to break it, or me, thought I had better ask before I attempt any dismantling. There is a Nut and Thread at the rear, that I loosen/remove, as there seems to be a slide-in clip attached. I take it that the rubber seals to the Oil Filler and Dipstick just pull through when the Cover is removed. Once the Nut is removed, does the cover just lift up easily or are there other retainers? Many thanks, RoystonB
  5. Hi All, I will be taking my year old Skoda Octavia Elegance Tdi out to Portugal when we migrate around next March. Because of that I need to purchase a new set of Headlights for driving on the wrong side of the road. I will be going over in January for a couple of months in another vehicle, so could anyone point me in the right direction to find a Skoda Agent/Outlet in or around Porto, Portugal or Santander, Spain, (That’s where I catch the boat to the UK) then I could have the headlights fitted in the UK ready for the migration. Lastly, anyone know how easy/hard it is to get both rear fog lights to operate or to change which one illuminates. I haven’t got the advance onboard computer thingy :( Many thanks in anticipation, RoystonB
  6. Hi, I have a 2010 (UK) Octavia Elegance Hatchback and I will be taking it to Portugal when we move there, within the next 3-4 months. My question is.................... Can the headlights (Which are standard UK type) be altered for Continental use or would they have to be replaced. If so any idea of the cost of purchase? I’ve had a look on the net but most seem to show replacements for the Mk 1. and refer to just the UK type. Any info most appreciated, cheers, RoystonB
  7. Just renewed my 2010 Elegance with Churchill £170 Fully Comp, me and the wife. (Mind, I am old)
  8. Ive just ordered 20sq ft of Second Skin Damplifier. I think that will cover the Boot, Well and Rear seat. If I have any left, is it worth using it under the heat mat under the Bonnet, or double up in the well/boot? Cheers, RB
  9. Many thanks for your replies. Guess I'l have to go back to the retailer for the alteration. Cheers, RoystonB
  10. Hi All, Sorry if this is such a long read but.............. I have taken possession of my New Octavia Elegance 1.9Tdi. All seems great, drives very well and I am impressed with the mpg, so much better than the Omega. However, I have a couple of small problems re the setting up of the Multi-function Indicator (MFI) or I’m being a little thick . It was initially setup by Skoda, but I am unable to change anything as I cannot get to Setup Menu. It is the Standard MFI and I do not have the multi-function steering wheel. The Manual states that there is a button on the multi-function steering wheel that calls up the Menu of the MFI, but it doesn’t give any indication of how to access the Menu any other way. What I actually want to show on the MFI is the Current Speed in Km/h, as the Speedometer only has mph markings. This is for when we travelling outside the UK. I can get to the mph screen using the control at the end of the Windscreen Wiper Lever. On that screen it only show the Average speed (it shows the circle with the line), and a small (1) in the top right hand corner. Pressing the Button under the Lever changes the screen to the Average speed again (it shows the circle with the line), but this time it has a small (2) on the top right hand corner. What am I doing wrong, and is there a screen that shows the actual speed of travel? Again, sorry for the long read, but any help most appreciated, RoystonB
  11. Sorry to throw a spanner into the works but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I ordered my Octavia Elegance in early January and 9 weeks 3 days later picked it up (today) and it HAS Electric Folding mirrors. When I spoke to the dealer about it, this morning, he said that it was one of the last to get them. However, the Cigarette Lighter doesn't work. :( Sort that tomorrw. RoystonB
  12. With a TomTom you just type it in, and it only costs £160. Bargain
  13. I know most would say to my question, “It’s a little late now” but, I ordered a new Octavia Elegance 1.9Tdi DSG in January. (Hopfully pick up in early April) Having read many threads on this excellent site, I am getting very confused with what I should be getting as Standard for the above model. I have the 2010 brochure, but reading the threads, there seems to be much more than what is mentioned in the booklet. Any ideas where to go to get a full spec. for the above. I have searched the net but almost every site gives a slightly different spec. and most seem to be up to the 2009 model, not 2010 model. I know I could go to the dealer, but I would imagine that he would then have to go to Skoda to get that info. Hoping to get a short cut to the info. Many thanks for any advice, RoystonB
  14. Thank's all. That was an interesting piece of Youtube, Peter. There were several others in that section that put it all into perspective. Thanks again, RoystonB
  15. Hi, I have on order an Octavia Elegance and have just noticed that there is a switch that turns off ‘ESP.’ Not being at all familiar with the workings of ‘ESP inc. ABS, MBA, MSR, ASR, EDL, HBA’ (although I have found a description of all but HBA in the Octavia brochure :( ), or ever had a vehicle with any of the above, other than ABS, was wondering what difference that switch has on the normal driving of the vehicle? Does the EPS, when ON, take away the normal driving response of the vehicle or is it seamless function, to which the driver has no knowledge or is there any noticeable difference when OFF? Much obliged for any answers, in layman terms please . RoystonB
