1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures
john493 replied to DGW's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
So if I buy a 2011 2.0TSI Octavia VRS, I'd be wanting to fit the latest version of the timing chain tensioner, which I believe is 06K 109 467 & I'd probably do the work myself. Anyone on here done this work themselves ? Any feedback ? Thanks -
Thanks guys - useful

Guys, First post, I've been lurking. I'm looking at a VRS hatch, it's a mk2 2011. Looks a good car, although I'm not too keen on the big chrome radiator grill. I guess I could paint it, but are there any better options to consider ? Thanks in advance.

Number plate lights on permanently
john493 replied to john493's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
It's a hatchback & they're on regardless of the position of the hatch - maybe I'll take off the hatch plastic cover, also try to check in the rubber flexy-sleeve. Trouble is, I'm having difficulty understanding how the left headlamp fuse could feed back to the number plate lights. I'm wondering if there's tracking or corrosion in the fuse-box - can't see anything obvious mind. -

No, they're standard halogen festoon bulbs. -
Number plate lights on permanently

I also unplugged the main light switch - no difference, number plate lights still lit. -
Guys - any ideas on this please ? It's an Octavia VRS, 2007. The number plate lights are permanently on, I've had to take the bulbs out to save the battery. The lights are on when everything on the car is switched off - they're on 24x7 ! Not on full brightness mind, still properly lit though. I've done some work by pulling fuses, and the power is coming from fuse 47 in the engine bay fuse box - this is the fuse for the left headlamp. I've pulled out the big multi-connector on the left headlamp and it makes no difference, number plate lights still on. Anyone got a diagram or and ideas as to what might be causing this please ? All the other lights on the car work normally. Thanks John

Thanks for the advice so far :wonder: OK I downloaded the FTDI drivers, now the OBD cable is recognised & shown in device manager (windows XP) as USB serial convertor. But I still cant get any comms with my car. ON VAG COM 409 I select "test" & get the message Port status OK Interface not found This is with the engine running. Any ideas what to try next please ?

It's a couple of years ago now, can't remember where I got it, but it says "ESHRULES ENTERPRISES" on the cable - would that use FTDI drivers ?

Guys, I've got a USB cable to use on my laptop with VAG Com but I don't have any s/w drivers for the cable - any idea where I can find them please ? Or where can I get a recommended cable & drivers to match ? Thanks

Wrong oil put in at service
john493 replied to 2SkodaFamily's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I'd be giving them a wide berth in future - DIY then you know it's been done right. -
Thanks - that's helpful

Guys, I'm planning to look at a 2002 Octavia 1.8T 4x4 this weekend - how can I test / confirm that all the 4x4 elements are working on a test drive ? Anything special to look out for ? (91K on the clock) Many thanks

Guys, this is an interesting thread - I've got my eye on an 1.8T Elegance 4x4, 2002 - 150bhp - what would I need to take this up to 180bhp the same an a VRS ? Thanks
