  1. Yeah it definitely hasnt got any worse since last March I have just got used to it now it just makes one whistle noise then it goes.
  2. That one seemed to be doing that on start up, mine doesnt do that its literally in 1st gear for 2 seconds then it goes and no other noise is heard apart from normal turbo noise its just so confusing I have read other posts who say its normal others say the turbo is going? I dont want to replace a turbo for no reason, the garage didnt mention it when drove it recently! ARRGH
  3. Hi Guys this has probably been asked a million times but here goes! I bought my Octavia VRS last year and ever since I have had it the turbo makes a siren noise when travelling at very low speeds, once you speed up it goes and the only noise you barely hear then is the normal Turbo whooshing noise I have no loss of power and it has been doing this for the whole 8K that I have driven it since. So is this noise normal? like I said I never hear it once accelerating its like for 2-3seconds and thats it it goes
  4. Thanks for your help I appreciate it
  5. Ha ha you can tell how much I know about cars! I think they are drums in which case must be 8V?
  6. Hi Sarah We have replaced the Thermostat and temp sensor and gauge is fine now I think its the 8valve but not 100% certain
  7. Hi I have a question about my wifes 52 plate Fabia 1.4MPI which we bought 2 months ago. When we went to pick it up the guy had just taken it out for a clean to the car wash so the engine was hot, I didnt drive it on the test drive either as I let my wife as it was going to be her car. ANyway when I drove it from cold I noticed that even after about 5 miles the engine was still cold so I asked my wife if it was when she drove it but obviously she couldnt remember (women!) When I checked it over I did notice that there was slight creaming on the oil filler cap but it had just had a service so the oil was fine but now I am starting to put things together! would a blown head gasket cause the thermostat to break? we have had this replaced and it doesnt overheat at all and comes upto temperature however I have noticed that when the car has been used there is a slight leak of (I assume coolant) under the passenger side front of the car, and also it is fairly sluggish at lower speeds so questions are:- 1.) Could a blown head gasket cause Thermostat to break? 2.) If they were running the car for ages without replacing the thermostat and the car wasnt getting hot enough would this cause the oil to go a bit gunky? 3.) Would a blown head gasket cause sluggishness at low speeds (its fine when above 40!, my wife did mention she went 80 the other day without noticing!) 4.) Can a blown head gasket cause a coolant leakage away from the actual engine block? The car was extremely well looked after it was a main dealer Skoda, and surely if the oil was well and truly gunked up then this would have been mentioned on the service report (done by Nationwide auto centres) done a few days before we picked it up! Sorry to ramble on a bit
  8. Ok it is just the one tick, shal I just ignore this or get it looked at do you think? it only happens very very occasionally its not every time I drive the car
  9. Hi All Wonder if anyone else has had this issue! its a weird one!! The other day (and its happened a few other times since!) I was driving and there is like a ticking noise coming from the dashboard identicle to when you turn on the hazard button but it just ticks once then stops, the sound seems as if it is coming from that area as well so must be something to do with the Hazards, its weird and I do not know if the lights actually flash when it happens! like I said it doesnt happen all the time just very occasionally. Anyone can shed any light on this or do I have some sort of ghost in my car with a fetish for my hazard switch? Cheers
  10. Thanks all, will get sorted as soon as my car comes out of the garage!
  11. Hi all, first time I have posted on these forums so please bear with me if this has been answered before (I did look!) I have an Octavia VRS and decided to get the wife a Fabia which we collected on Saturday its an 02 with only 56k on the clock just had a service etc.. and appears to have been very well looked after, however I noticed last night when driving it for the first time that it was a little sluggish in the lower gears once above 40 it goes quite well (mind you a drive a VRS so maybe not used to the reduction in power!) anyway we had been driving for 20 minutes and the temperature gauge had only just moved, we did sit idling outside for a while and the temperature did increase to just below halfway but again when I carried on the journey the temp went back down again! Does anyone have any ideas? and would whats causing it make the car sluggish at low speed? Thanks in advance
