  1. Haven't been on here in years but I've owned 326 since 2011. 326 - Springveldt - CR TDi - Estate - Stratstone Houghton-le-Spring
  2. Just thought I would update this on how it turned out in case anyone else is thinking of doing the same. I've got a Limited Edition Octavia and although it's not a FL it does have the white maxidot. The bluetooth unit was bought from Ebay (5N0035730D). I bought a wiring loom from Ebay as well from carsystems.pl (unfortunately I didn't realise I had bought a bare bones loom with no microphone or antenna) Since I'm using an iPhone and don't plan on changing anytime soon I didn't need a GSM antenna and this unit has the bluetooth receiver built in. I then bought a microphone separate, again from Ebay. After fitting and coding I thought something was wrong as I couldn't communicate with the unit. Since I still haven't received the owners manuals from the dealer I was unaware you actually pair the device through the Maxidot, just hold in the end of the stalk for a couple of seconds to get to the menu then select Phone and follow instructions. Once that was done and the microphone finally arrived and fitted I'm glad to say it's finally working. Was a good (if frustrating) learning experience.
  3. Well this is fun and games. Still can't get the Bolero to talk to the Bluetooth unit. I've tried a few different codings but nothing seems to work. I've also tried to set the flag for telephone in the 56 - Radio long coding. This doesn't seem to work though as when I set the flag and hit Do It, I get an error in vcds, something about Error 31 - Coding Rejected. Looking at the diagnostics I've noticed that both my 17-Instruments and 56-Radio have BAP 01.04.01 while 77-Telephone has BAP 04.01.02 so I'm guessing these need updated to be in sync?
  4. Only a sensible person would do that. Was having a look through vcds and the coding is currently set to 02 then all zeros. I've set the telephone active in the CAN Gateway module (19) but inside the Telephone module (77) the long coding doesn't provide any help (I guess it can't map the part number) so I've no idea what each byte actually relates to. I'll need to have a look around the forum I guess. Another thing I should have mentioned is that the 5N0 I've got is the latest one D, and I've got an LE, not a FL car. The LE has the white maxidot so I've assumed that this should be compatible but you know what they say about assuming things. Cheers, I'll try and figure out what that actually means.
  5. I've just got a 5N0 unit from EBay (some guy in Portugal) over the weekend and put in in behind the climate control unit. As you said, there isn't enough space initially so I got the trusty hacksaw out and cut off the plastic screw holder parts. Fits in snuggly after doing that. Looks like I need some coding done now though as when I press the phone button I get a message something like "user not connected" and my phone won't pair with the unit. At least I hope it's a coding issue as I don't want to pull it all back out.
  6. I'd imagine even if you remap a vRS there will be a drop off in performance compared to the CTR from 30-90 but not as much as you would think. I've been in a remapped vRS that beat a Mini Cooper S from a standing start to 70mph by a couple of car lengths. The same vRS stuck like glue to the back of a Clio Sport from 30-80 as well. I know the Mini Cooper S was trying (I work with the guy ) but couldn't say for sure about the Clio.
  7. Stop tempting me. Actually in my head I've already got the car, just wish SWMBO could see it, it looks great.
  8. Really? Any mods done? The standard one runs out of puff at about 3.5k. Even a remapped one won't pull beyond 5k and since you are way into the redline over 5k I wouldn't want to do that, with or without a remap.
  9. Yep, you will need the wind back tool. Also make sure you have a sturdy allen key (or a good allen socket) to get carrier bolts off. What I did was place the wheel nut wrench over the allen key to give me more leverage and really pull to get the bolts loose. My first attempt at just pulling on the allen key ending with very sore hands and a very bent allen key. The Skoda approved discs and pads aren't that expensive actually. Think it is around £60-£70 in total.
  10. So far my services hav cost 10k - £173 (11 months old) 20k - £214 (22 months old) Both services had the yearly inspection included and were down at a franchised dealer. I'm taking the car in tomorrow to have the brake fluid changed, costing £30. Saves me the hassle of disposing of the fluid.
  11. Its worth phoning around, I've been quoted a best price of £6600 to change to an ex demo with 8k on the clock but my trade in is a 54 plate Fabia vRS. I'm sure if you phoned a few those dealers that have ex demos in the Autotrader at the moment and you were prepared to travel you could find a much better deal. I was actually happy with that price but the wife has had second thoughts and is not so happy. I'm very, very close to taking a page out of the Makefish book on how to get a new car.
  12. There are a load of ex demo's in the Autotrader, all priced around £15k-£16k
  13. Honda Jazz? Just got my wife one of them and she loves it. They are pretty spacious, the boot is a good size.
  14. Couldn't resist, I grabbed my torch and went out. The bottom torx screw seems like it's embedded, I just unscrewed that and the barrel came out easily. 2 minute job. Thanks for all the help Lummox.
  15. Thanks Lummox. I thought the bottom grommet didn't have a torx screw in it but it must look different from the top one. I slackened off the top one, I'll try the bottom one in the morning as its a bit dark now.
  16. There are 2, the top one had a torx and the bottom one doesn't seem to have anything! It's a 54 plate, registered in September 2004.
  17. Are these instructions the same for the Fabia vRS? I've removed the torx screw but the barrell will not budge, it's jammed in solid. When I apply pressure to try and get the barrell out the whole door skin is flexing, so it seems like it is catching somewhere else.
  18. The main problem I see is that the petrol is cheaper and quicker but also the Elegance 2.0 TDI has a much better spec. I'd find it hard to justify getting the TDI vRS.
  19. Had a test drive tonight of an Octy vRS and the brakes felt really, really sharp compared to my furby vRS. I thought the salesperson in the passenger seat was going to get whiplash with the way I was using them.
  20. Think I may do that as I'm not in a rush to get the Octy. If the price is right I would buy it but it's not the end of the world if it's out my price range. I noticed a couple of VRS in the Autotrader from franchised Skoda dealers and 1 really caught my eye... Skoda Octavia 2.0 T FSI vRS 5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 4,191 miles, Magic Black, Anti-lock brakes,Driver/passenger seat height adjustment,Driver, passenger and front side air bags,Alarm,18'' alloy wheels,Remote central door locking,2 zone climate control,Electric/heated door mirrors,Front electric windows,Front/rear head restraints,Power-assisted steering,radio/CD autochanger,Electronic stability programme,Rake/reach adjustable steering column/wheel,Tinted glass,Immobiliser,Front fog lamps, cloth interior. £14,999. Pity it is a 6 hour drive away.
  21. Thanks for the input Stu. Guess I will just have to wait and see what the Salesperson comes up with for his figures but at least I am now prepared for the shock.
  22. Yeah, I do have a part exchange (54 plate Fabia VRS) but I could sell that privately I suppose. I'm not very good at haggling so I'm just trying to get a ballpark figure in my head really. What I have been thinking is my part exchange plus a max of £6K for an ex demo. Dunno how realistic that is though. Not really bothered about optional extras except the paint colour, I like the Blue and Black. Never had cruise on a car so I won't miss what I've never had.
  23. I'm just wondering if now a good time to be buying with the new 56 plate due out? I'm test driving the petrol VRS tonight, and although the head is telling me to get a diesel I'm pretty sure after tonights test drive it will be the petrol VRS that I'll be going for. Over the last week or so it seems a lot of demonstraters are starting to hit the market as Autotrader has got a load more VRS' for sale than a week ago. In all honesty I don't particularily want to buy a new car as I feel you lose too much value on them :thumbdwn: and would prefer to get an ex demo with a few grand knocked off. I'm wondering what people think is a *realistic* price for an ex demo that is about 6-8 monthly old with around 6-8k on the clock? I know it depends on optional extra's but lets just say it only has metallic paint and cruise control (500 quids worth). Is around
  24. Apparently Autofinders are taking orders for the diesel VRS and are quoting a pretty good price
