  1. Paul, can recomend a very good independant that looks after our scout. He's based at wadsley bridge in Sheffield Cheers Tim
  2. Pre facelifts have hill hold, haldex system kicks in when it needs to ( no indication except plenty of grip and lack of wheelspin. Can recomend shark remap, makes it a more responsive drive, had ours done at 2k miles and still smiling
  3. We had a westfalia detatchable bar with single electrics fitted by the independent fitter recommended by our dealer when the car was 3 months old, he used a relay for the canbus connection. Think it was around £300. We had 3 warranty issues with the car and didn't have a problem getting sorted
  4. Yep will fit, got the very same set up with our Scout. There is about a 3 inch overhang either side of the feet though. Easy for me to live with as same setup also fits our zafira HTH
  5. Also factor into the number of scouts stated that a good number will not be privately owned as most ambulance services use scouts as response vehicles, so it may be even for privately owned
  6. The dealers use a antibac cannister made by carplan iirc, can be done DIY as instructions are on can. Some dealwrs sell them for ?£15 but are a lot cheaper on fleabay
  7. Yes they do in Yorkshire, this is the first year they have been fitted to the A+E fleet. IIRC 4500 tyres were ordered initialy. Unfortunately the one I was driving on Tuesday night was a 12 plate so was still shod with the standard Dunlop SP01's :(
  8. on Wendesday moring I witnessed the difference between summer tyres and winter tyres in the snow, both in a scout. While at work in a scout with summer tyres on I struggled to get up a hill around Penistone, 20 minutes later while 'playing' in my own scout, with winter tyres on, around the same area and on the same hill never had wheel spin/traction control light on. So proof that winter tyres do make a difference in traction. The scout with winters on is quite an awsome machine , was overwhelmed with smugness on hills where 2wd cars were sliding all over the place, I just stopped let them slide out of the way and set off again- no fuss :giggle: , no wheelspin just uggins of grip
  9. That's what I thought was the problem but it had 2 45 minute runs on the motorway Sunday 1 in daylight 1 with lights on , then was fully charged at dealers on monday then wouldn't start Thursday pm after starting at 9am
  10. Hi guys and girls, wonder if anyone can shed some light on the following problem? the battery on our 22 month old scout is loosing charge over a couple of days if not used! the battery has been checked by RAC, Skoda Dealer and now VW assist, none of them can find fault with battery, there is no registered abnormal drain when checking the battery and its charging properly. Its going into the dealers again on Saturday to hopefully get it sorted :( Wondered if anybody else has had any simular problems The dealers is the wrong place for a scout when snow is forcast
  11. it's really down to personal choice and cost whether you go for alloys or steelies, I went for steelies on ours as they were a good price off ebay and local to me. I would strongly offer advice on the tyres though, doesn't matter what brand you get but make sure they are extra load (94)as the standard load (91) will look as flat as pankakes at the bottom, also this is the same spec as the 'full size' spare wheel so shouldn't affect insurance/warrenty as it is classed as standard equipment. Hope this helps and turns the scout in to a snow munching monster
  12. Admiral covered ours, PD140 increased to 170, via Shark. Cost extra £66 (160 excess) and cost nowt for changing to winter wheels BTW, no joy with adrian flux, higher premium and 300 excess :wonder:
  13. the horn for the alarm is at the back of wheel arch liner, cant remember which one though. when you lock the car remotely the red LED on the drivers should flash rapidly for a few seconds then flash every few seconds. If its not doing this the alarm sounder is faulty. had mine replaced under warranty within a week or two after delivery, only found out it was faulty when Ben at shark performance ran a systems check when I had the car tinkered with HTH btw it took me two trips to the dealers, one to confirm it was goosed and then 2nd visit to fix it !!!!
  14. IIRC, according to the service schedule, the Haldex oil should be changed every 4 years also if its not reached the mileage
  15. yep ours is the same on the scout. was concerned initialy thinking it had fallen off but, after checking on the 5 scout's we have at work they are all the same! Perhaps its EU regulations to lower emissions
  16. Hi lard-ajc, great loking scout, noticed you've got mud flaps front and rear. Are they genuine parts and how did you get them to fit? Desperately need to get some on ours Cheers Uscouter
  17. only problem with 'all season' tyres, according to tyre tests/reviews on several tyre websites, is that they seem to be reguarded as "jack of all tyres and master of nothing" wether this is true I dont know, but after considering using all seasons on the scout I decided to go down the route of full winter tyres Please dont shoot me this is only my personal opinion
  18. unfortunately I only found out the dunlops were poor in the snow when we had the dollop before christmas, then i managed to source some steel wheels complete with winter tyres from flea bay. Since then, unfortunately, we have just had a light sprinkling of snow, nothing really to test them. A mate at work has got some snowtrak3's on his astra estate van and run them through the bad snow and says they were fantastic
  19. as far as i am aware they go to a company for disposal, who strip them of all the extras that were put on (blue lights, siren and green/yellow check etc) and then they will go to auction. IMHO Possibly not the best 2nd hand buy as they have a hard life, ours are usually run at least 20hrs a day every day
  20. Being one of the Ambulance response drivers for the same service, not the person in the foto, let me explain things a bit better Firstly we are trained in emergency driving upto Police response driver standard, which is a 2 weeks course the scout is not a serious off road vehicle, more akin to rough tracks than up hill and down dale so no specific off road training is required, just a tad of common sense they were purchased for the road holding and performance capabilities as well as the load lugging capacity, we carry the same amount of kit as an emergency ambulance except for a spinal board, which is all in the boot they have standard tyres on which are mostly goodyear/dunlops, which dont have the shedding capabilities of m+s tyres so if the ground is muddy the tread will get and stay full of mud so they are unable to grip and the haldex system wont work if there is no grip on any corner However, they were the only vehicle that kept the service going through the bad weather lasy year. The standard tyres work well in the snow, the only thing that defeated the scout on 'my shift' was 2 feet of virgin snow and that was partly down to the sump guard lifting the front of the car up on the snow. The scout is a fantastic car so much so we bought one new last year soley based on the experience of using one at work HTH BTW our scout came with dunlop sports which most agree are rubbish in snow, so much so we got a full set of steelies shod with winters for the....er...winter
  21. took our scout to Ben at shark performance last week to have it tinkered with what a diffference Its not just about the extra power (140bhp to 180) it makes the whole car smoother and more responsive, especially in 2nd,3rd and 4th. this makes for safer overtaking. Its reassuring to have the extra power there to use if needed Not noticed any increase in economy yet but i'm still having fun playing once the novelty wears off, if it ever will?, and i start driving it 'normally' im sure there will be a slight increase in economy. I also spend 10hrs a day at work in a standard scout, as a response driver, and the difference is like chalk and cheese, although we do carry a lot of kit in the back!!!!! also with the 4WD system it puts the power straight down if needed and no wheel spin and Ben is a decent honest bloke whos keen to offer advice so if need be give him a call HTH
  22. The Scout has just been given a magic potion by Ben the Wizard at Shark Performance today and inturn has given me the cheesiest grin I've had in a long long time!!!! Infact its still there hours after the drive home which went far too quickly, time wise of course, hee hee Its like a completley different car, the delivery is far far smoother and is put down well with the 4 wheel drive system Once again thank you to Ben, a good honest bloke
  23. the general rule of thumb is to have the best tyres on the rear axle, this is to maximise grip in the wet and to stop aquaplaning under braking as there is usually less weight on the back end to push the tyres down onto the road surface. Also if they are wide tyres (225 +) it is recomended to replace at 2-3mm. HTH forgot to say this is for fwd
  24. its not just the speed rating to consider with the insurance companies, the load rating needs to be considered, which is '94' on OE tyres hth
