  1. Wow, nearly 4 years since I did this retrofit! I would say yes, combine the reds as there is only one pin in the bcm. The browns go to earth. I replaced the Skoda with a Mazda 6 last year. And have just fitted the oem footwell lights to this car as well. I find the low ambient light more pleasant during the dark winter months. Good luck with the fit!
  2. Yeah, it's the 2017 model year as well, so a bit more refinement and little extras like traffic sign recognition on the hud, which my Octy didn't have with the Amundsen sat nav. The 4x4 VRS I can certainly get behind, nice motor.
  3. Well, after 3 and a bit years, my lease Octavia DSG estate goes back this Friday. I've chosen a Mazda 6 Sport Touring as it's replacement as I'd had a saloon Octy mk2 previously. I didn't fancy the hatrick! I've enjoyed the car, although I have found this Mk a little on the dull side, the mk2 had more character and I felt a better build quality - certainly less rattles in the cabin! I have also enjoyed using the forum and the knowledge base, I've yet to find similar for the Mazda. I shall log back in from time to time - but for now ta ta.
  4. I have a similarly damaged front grill, pigeon-damage from a year or two back. Just enough damage to mean a replacement. I've bought just the grill and will be attempting the bumper-off fix should it arrive in time this weekend. I have bought some 'Tiger Seal' from amazon, and this stuff is supposedly use to fix spoilers etc. to vehicles so I'm hopeful this will be sufficient to replace the need to high-frequency weld the thing into place like they do at the factory (which means I would have to try the old hot-knife plastic fix on a rather large scale!). As you say, it is held in place at the top by a good spread of torx screws as well. I do know that another Briskodian member had a garage do something similar to replace his grill that had also been broken by low flying pigeons. He felt they had effected a good fix. I do think this solution is rather forced on one, as having to replace a fully painted front bumper for what is a 30-40 pound part is somewhat extreme! No wonder insurance costs are high if motor manufacturers build-in nonsense like that (think of the labour and paint costs...). And who wants to ruin a NCB and have a nice juicy excess payment for something that should be easily swapped out, the rest of the front plastic grills are replaceable...Rant over. If I'm successful, I'll report back on how the job went.
  5. Can be coded out using VCDS. That's what I did. A more useless function I've yet to find on a car. About as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!
  6. I have a 2014 '63 plate elegance with winter pack, heated seats etc, etc and mine does have that setting within the climate control menu

  8. Bought the set from LedPerf for the interior (and external wing mirror downlights) and the non-error numberplate lights a year or so ago - look so much better than the standard interior lights. Much brighter and better colour over the old 'yellers'...

I have the Amundsen on a 2014 model and get intermittent mdi lead issues, where the unit would be playing my ancient (but loved) iPod classic flawlessly - I can finish my journey and when I get back in the car the head unit doesn't recognise the iPod anymore. Unplug and plug back in usually is the cure........sometimes not and you have to disconnect at the iPod end. It is slooooow to react to screen touches, only slightly better than the Bolero I had on my older Octy. Next gen my a@rse! Also I get the DAB drop outs, but probably because it's the estate. But one other DAB gripe is listening to 5 Live Sports Extra for example, when you get back in the car it's reverted back to normal 5 Live and vice versa. Grrrr I have the latest firmware update via a kindly member but as its a company car I've not had the bottle to update. I wish I'd gone for the Columbus upgrade now.......
  10. I don't have the engine you mentioned, but do have the estate (2.0lt DSG) - the load capacity is great, as a recent house move proved with being able to cram so much in. Also 6 trips to tip later and helping friends/family with flat-packed wardrobes has proven the estate to be the better choice for us! Can get 2 adults in the back with our daughters car seat - bit of a squeeze. Have you thought about the Superb estate with the smaller diesel lump?

  12. Plenty of creaks and rattles, difficult to find and got to that stage where it's easier to just turn up the stereo. Not the best quality interior or plastic-materials (as others have stated). 30,000 miles in less than 18 months and it is worse than my previous MK2 that had over 80,000 on it when it was changed for the current MK3.
  13. Go with the GTD, I have the estate DSG Octy - a company car. Had a similar dilemma on choosing with the 3 series touring 8-speed auto, the GTD (manual), Mazda 6 (manual) and the Octy (auto) short-listed. Never drove either the Mazda or the Golf and wish I had every time I see one on the road. The Beemer was nice, but never tried the auto version - the manual was awful with a really heavy clutch and 'firm' gear shift - terrible on long journeys in traffic. As themanwithnoaim says offset pedals, not good! The Octy is fine as you know, but a little dull. The GTD should be quite a good drive.....wish I was choosing again; only 18 months until its up for change!
  14. Dunno if it's because mine is DSG, but just had the fronts changed for the first time (had it since Jan 14) at 26,600 miles! Admittedly pretty low - but the rears were reported as still at 6mm from new! I'm used to getting through new boots in 14-16,000 miles so impressed. Cinturato Pirelli P7s from the factory and replaced with the same.

  16. I did recode mine using VCDS but never got it to work properly, even after following AndyVee's suggestions - so it's disabled now. Shame because as you say it worked well on the MK2s.

Hi mate, I followed an idea from a fellow member (will be on the forum somewhere) as I agree with your assessment of the ipod integration; basically you get an ipod connector extension cable (mine was a couple of quid off ebay) - then route the mdi lead up and back above the sliding 'ashtray' door/cover (very, very fiddly with skinned knuckles the obvious outcome!). Then join the end to the extension and run this to the glove box (all hidden behind the dash). You may find it easier to remove the passenger kick panel (did this a year ago and can't quite remember that part!). The result mean all you can see is the mdi plug from where you sit. Much neater. Apologies to the OP for wandering off-topic......
  18. No, just the 2 sides with flimsy covers and the plastic cubbies beneath - these were the source of many a rattle for me. Cheap plastic and loose fitting.

Located (and removed) most of the cause of my anguish; it appears the plastic cubbies and covers to the left and right of the variable floor (where the retractable cover is stored when removed from its runners) are the cause. Bliss! As it's a company car I will put them back when the car is returned in a couple of years, but for now - no crashes and bangs to distract me! And the rest of the interior trim appears to be reasonable well put together I've discovered since getting rid of the offending items. Another advantage on removing these; with the bag/curry hooks just above this area, bags used to sit proud on these, now they're gone bags hang freely from the hooks (like in my MK2 Octy.

  21. Ha! Agreed - in my feckless youth that is exactly what I would have done; but as I've aged I tend to listen to Radio 5 Live more. So no antidote to the rattles :( Back on topic, the ride is more supple than the older model to me - UK winter roads notwithstanding.........pot-holes anyone?

  23. Yeah, forgot it's a cost-option on the Elegance outside the UK. Wouldn't have specced it myself for sure. The heated screen and seats however have been a useful addition!
  24. It is a useful addition in many scenarios, so don't discount it just on my OCD low-annoyance threshold ! I think I need a couple of days' making adjustment and judicious use of foam/cardboard to silence it.
