  1. Are some brands of oil filter better than others?
  2. What's the best type of oil filter to buy or is there not much difference between them? It's for a 1.8 TSI, it's only done 2.5k miles since the last service which was 2 years and 9 months ago. If the oil is still brown does that mean an oil change isn't needed? Thanks
  3. If you do 2K miles a year, does the oil still need to be changed annually? Is it difficult for someone who's not a mechanic to change the oil and filters themselves? Thanks
  4. Is it the same on the hatch and estate? I read that it can't be done easily on the Seat Leon (see attached image). Can it be done on the VW Golf Estate or is it the same on all MQB cars of this size?
  5. Does the rear seat base on the hatchback lift up, so that the rear seat back can fold flat, like in the MK2 FL? Thanks
  6. Can the failure happen at very low mileages? I've got a 1.8 TSI (160hp) registered Dec 2010 but it's only done 8500 miles. I'm not sure whether to sell and take a hit on depreciation, have the revised parts fitted or wait until the mileage is higher. I'm in South-East Wales, where would be the cheapest place to have the revised parts fitted? Is it better to get it done at a dealership or is an independent garage ok? Many thanks
  7. If the vehicle is older than 60 months, would low mileage help with the goodwill offer? I have a 1.8TSI that will be 5 yrs old this December, currently just over 8k miles. I'm not sure whether to sell or pay for a replacement tensioner. Have any built towards the end of 2010 failed? Thanks
  8. Octy Mk2 TDI vs TFSI http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel2674-1357.htm Octy Mk3 TDI vs TSI DSG http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel4880-4742.htm This link gives more info for Mk3 TSI DSG http://www.zeperfs.com/en/fiche4742-skoda-octavia-iii-rs-2-0-tsi-dsg.htm
  9. I should have mentioned earlier when the dashboard indicator is permanently lit, it is not as bright as when it is flashing in operation and it is only the one side. I read in a car mechanic magazine about a common fault with VAG cars where the Plenum chamber can let water in. Could this affect the electrics?
  10. Yes the external indicators work fine. How can I check the earth? Thanks
  11. The external indicators aren't lit. It needs an MOT this month, will they try the indicators with the lights on at the same time? Could they fail it on this? The fault started last winter when I went to the coast to see the big waves we had, the water spray was hitting the car. Could water have gotten into the headlights, how can I check this? Thanks
  12. I have a 2010 Octy. When the lights on, the left indicator light on the dashboard is permanently lit. What could be causing this? Thanks
  13. Was the 170 diesel engine in the Passat you had, the PD or CR version?
  14. What about the new Focus ST? A diesel is now available with more torque than the VRS, it's better to drive and you get to tell everyone you've got an STD ! Like the BMW 3 series though, it has less space.
