  1. The yellow traction control lights kick in on the dash, its really just an extension of the traction control when all said & done.
  2. XDS works fine on my 2wd 2012 170cr estate. I applies the brake to the spinning wheel without cutting the power.
  3. I had Octavia VRS cr estate & now a supurb 170 elegance estate. Not much difference really , superb a bit softer sprung, a bit roomier. I had xenons on the vrs so the lights similar. I have also activated XDS on the superb so it pulls away/powers out of bends like the VRS Brakes a bit mushy on the superb, but that could just need a fluid change. Never towed with the VRS, but the superb pulls a caravan very well. Both were geared about the same & ate motorway miles. Superb interior feels posher (very subjective I know) has more toys as standard, just missing the vrs badge on the steering wheel. There are so many common components - surprisingly enough they are pretty much the same & its the details that set them apart. Enjoy whatever you go for.
  4. I tow a Sterling Europa 460 (about 1300kg) with my 2012 Superb Combi 170 elegance. I have enabled XDS using VCDS which stops a lot of the wheelspin on pull away without cutting the power - recommended! I have towed with a variety of cars from a 4x4 Celica to a ford Galaxy & the Superb is by far the best, very stable & happy at 50/60 in 6th.
  5. It was just a single wire for the constant feed & fridge. All the others went to the fuse box. Could just be generic instructions for the Westfalia add on kit? If I'd have known would have been easier to go to the fuse box with all of them :-)
  6. I fitted the thule removable bar and westfalia electrics. Towbar pretty easy under 2 hours from what I remember. A fairly large peice removed from the bottom of the bumper to allow the electric socket to swing down when needed. The electric took about half a day taking it easy. a few wires run to the fuse box on the drivers side dash all pretty straight forward to do using the instructions. I ran through to the battery on the near side & inthe passenger footwell is a LARGE loom that goes through a rubber bung - I was able to get the wire through this quite easily & up to the battery. Lots of trim panels to remove in the car but again common sense & patience help :-) I have VCDS so self coded the car in a couple of minutes. Good luck :-)
  7. On my 1212 estate there is a large bundle of cables that go through under the battery.. I removed the battery, then the foam cover under the passenger footwell & pushed a hook through (about 4inch long) then simply pulled the bcable back. There is a large fuse box next to the battery & there are spare 5/6mm stud that you can fit a ring terminal onto. Quite easy (once I got the battery off & found the loom.
  8. My 2012 170cr estate had the clutch & flywheel replaced at 40k miles - handy coz I boutght it with 44k miles! No idea why it was done though.
  9. The ones onder the back seat are going into the fuel tank - fuel pump & level senders The box under the seat is the phone/buetooth
  10. I went with the Witter detachable from Hedley Alarms - which worked out a lot cheaper than you hve seen - check them out!! The bar should arrive in the next day or two & looks very easy to fit. I fitted the Westfalia dedicated electrics which took around 4 hours to do, going slowly. most of the time was taken up working out how the trim clips off but all pretty much common sense. A bit hard getting the charge wire to the barttery but with the battery off you can see where the main loom goes through so that bad. A bit fiddly swapping the canbus wire in one of the plugs & again installing teh 3 new fuses in the fuse box. Nothing broken and all back on sqeak & rattle free. All the lights on the van worked straight off & when I coded the various bit on the car the fog & reverse sensors etc all work as descrivbed above. I went dedicated electrics mainly to allow the ESP to work with the caravan - work the extra £80/90 in my opinion a no bainer! There is a setting in the engine ECU for trailer (at least in my MY12 170cr estate) which I assume changes the engine characteristics when towing - can anyone shed any light on this? First outing should be this weekend - fingers crossed. Hope this helps.
  11. Was the torch on or off when you put it back on the car? Maybe if switched on it turns off while charging?
  12. Had a play with VCDS.... Coded the towing electrics I added at the weekend. Set XDS on Changed coming home lights to use fogs not xenons Generally had a good rummage around :-) Reassuring to have no faults and the soot mass in the DPF nice & low.
  13. Hi, I seem to be settling around 38 - 40. Fast out of town driving. Longer runs 43-45. I am v happy with these given my driving style, about 10mpg more than my old 3.0cdti vectra managed.
