  1. Bought my Octy there in 2005 when they were based in Dun Laoighre...and although there was a bit of delay in it arriving...they were reasonably good in handling the transaction. However when they moved to Sandyford...I was not at all impressed with their service centre. Thought it was a bit on the pricey side...and then they replaced a part which didnt need replacing and when the problem reappeared and I brought it back...instead of getting an apology from them for misdiagnosing (to my cost) the problem...I got a lecture from them. I asked them how long it would take..and when they were not forthcoming with an estimated time..I said "I wouldnt have to be here if you had fixed the fn problem correctly in the 1st place. He took exception at my usage, in a sense of frustration, of the F word...and gave me a lecture in front of his colleagues. I promptly asked for my keys back and left...having wasted a morning trekking out there. Customer service...NIL points, from me....and I'm glad to report that I have just ordered my new Octy from ***************...who recognize customer service is more than just smooth talking salesmen.
  2. Cauliflower, Good to hear your new Octy arrived and apart from getting acquainted with the door locks..you're well chuffed with it. The euro equivalent of the UK price (incl VRT and VAT adjustment) would have made it c.2k worthwhile for me...but alas I lost that on trade in price offered..as the NI dealer could not get a decent offer from his ROI contact. Anyway I went back to my local dealer on Saturday...and in an out of body experiece...I signed up for a 2.0 vRS diesel...so shouldn't have power probs with that! Allegedly...its on the boat..although dont know where the boat is! So I guess I'm waiting for my ship to come in...LOL...and for a really good Cheltenham to fund the moment of madness.
  3. Cauliflower..thanks..you raised the very query I had myself...and now having read all the posts, I'm as clear as.....mud!! In my case it is a choice between 1.4tsi and 1.6 crd (dealer advises me that the 1.9 d will be phased out and that the 1.6crd is c.30% quieter than the 1.9d. In any event the (non-DSG) prices here in Rep of Ireland for 3 models are €23,090 (1.4tsi), €22,915 (1.6crd) and €22,775 (1.9d) and the annual road taxes 302, 104 and 156 respectively. Diesel is c. 10-15c. cheaper than petrol, per litre. So overall there is not much difference in costs...but the 1.6crd is more economical than 1.4tsi (60 v 44 mpg, I think) Dealer tells me that there would be greater resale value for diesel as taximen are always in the market for lowish mileage diesels and it seems appx 75% of taxis here are Octys!! I test drove the 1.6crd yesterday and found that there are a few moments before the power kicks in...which made take-off seem quite sluggish. They had no 1.4tsi in stock as he said there is no demand for them..everyone is enquiring about diesel. However all the industry mags seem to prefer the 1.4tsi and given that there is such a wait for the VW Golf with the same engine...obviously quite a good few drivers are going for them. Are there any independent reviews of 1.4tsi and 1.6crd on Briskoda? I'm not a va va vroom wannabe..but I just dont want to be left standing at the lights when they go green...like the old Hamlet cigar ad...where the horse stays in the starting stalls when the gates open and the jockey onboard lights up a Hamlet....I mean the line "Happiness is a car called Octy" just doesnt have the same appeal...lol
  4. Hi, I'm a new member fron Dublin, Ireland. In the process of changing my 05 Oct 1.6 mpi for a new Oct....problem is not sure which one to get. Either 1.4 tsi or 1.6 CRD as dont really have the opportunity to use RS..plus not sure how safe it might be on street parking! Anyway in Ireland the 1.4 tsi and 1.6crd are almost the same price whereas in UK the 1.4 is almost £2k cheaper. Test drove the 1.6crd and thought there was a bit of delay before power kicked in...so seemed sluggish from take-off. Dealer said there would be better resale value on diesel. Its also 200 less in annual road tax here and obviously has better mpg. But the main car mags..What Car and Auto Express...think the 1.4tsi is the best in the range....and I have no doubt that if it were 2k cheaper here in Ireland thats what I would go for...anyone know why the disparity in relative pricing within the Oct range between UK and Ireland? Thats enough to start with!! Thnx.
