  1. Hi Stuart, I agree the 17inch Pegasus wheels look a lot better, and I've got them on my 2.0TDI estate. The stiffer suspension package is good if you like taking the handling to the limits, but is quite firm and jittery on poor surfaces especially at low speed around town, and tyre noise will be higher. Personally, I would prefer the nice wheels without the stiff suspension. Nick
  2. Hi Olski, Joining this thread quite late, but if you are still looking at replies ... I was also bothered by high tyre/road noise from the factory-fit 225/45x17 inch Dunlop Sport SP01 tyres on my 2.0 TDI Elegance estate (Pegasus alloys) - they also only did 20,000 miles before wearing out. I spent about 6 months researching low-noise tyres on the internet car forums etc. I eventually chose Yokohama Advan Db1 tyres - specifically designed for reduced noise. They were about
  3. I have bought 3 Octavia Estates (new) since 1999 from Jewson. Always helpful, good deals, fair trade-ins, and good servicing. They always let me test drive new models, even when it's clear I'm not just about to buy. Definitely recommend them . Nick
  4. My 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate (9 months old) has had creaky steering on low speed full-lock manouevres since new. Dealer says 'they all do this'. No other steering or any other problems. I was interested to see Lummox's comments on this thread that VAG are working to sort it out across the group platform. I will check back from time to time to see if there is a fix, then go back to the dealers to tell them about it - cos they always seem the last to know! Nick
  5. Had anyone tried to remove the interior front door trim of the Octy 2? I'm trying to replace the standard speakers with my own Alpines. I had a gentle look, but it all seems very tightly assembled. Any tips please?
  6. Hello, Two questions please: Has anyone fitted a Dragon digital tuning box to a 2.0TDI engine? Is it worth it? Easy to fit? Any problems with it generating error codes from the ECU? Is it possible to buy and fit upgraded bulbs for the standard headlights, that appear to be projector-style on the Octy 2? Any recommendations? Thanks very much! Nick
  7. Hello, I am just about to take delivery of an Octy 2, but in my Octy 1 1.9TDI Elegance Estate I was very disappointed with the sound quality ... until I home-fitted the Alpine SPR-176A Component Speakers in the front doors. These speakers have completely transformed the sound quality and show what a surprisingly good head unit is fitted! The 6" mid range units (just) fit, and the cross-overs lie in the bottom of the door cavity. It takes about 1 hour per side to fit. Cut the original speaker cable just by the connections and attach to cross-over units. Follow instructions from there! I expect that these speakers will easily fit in the Octy 2 when I get delivery and move them across. The standard speakers in the new Octy 2 are much better than in the Octy 1, but I still expect the Alipines to be an improvement. They cost about
  8. Hello, I have had two 1.9 110 Octavia Estates (faultless over 5 years), and I'm looking forward to getting a new Octavia II 2.0 TDI in a couple of months. Toys include: towbar, 17" wheels/sport suspension, multifunction wheel, and light-assist (why not?). The question: does anyone have experience of the digital Dragon tuning box for the 140 bhp 2.0 TDI? What I like is effortless acceleration at low rpm (ie lots of torque), rather than a major increase in top speed. How much can these boxes be adjusted? Is it worth the £300. Thanks for your thoughts!
  9. Hello All, I have had two Octavia Estates, and I'm looking forward to getting my new Octavia II 2.0 TDI in a few months. Nick
