Hi, I need two new front tyres for my VRS and as I am short of money and have a suspicion they might go bold again I'm finding some on ebay. ATM they are all 205/50/17 I intend to keep the rear ones as they're oright but if I get something like 215 45 17 would that be such a big difference? I know I have to buy all 17 but are the first two digits really significant?

what LPG kit to choose for 1.8t octavia 1?
sc0rpius replied to diasomie's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
BRC is one of the best kits and good value for money, Prinz is good but way overpriced. The other two are ok but you should go for BRC. -
Inner tyres tread wearing fast

Rear wear is normal, so you reckon its just the tracking yeah? If so ill get it done by a different place next time. -

Well its sorned at the moment, ill get it back in 5 months. After I get new tyres ill get it tracked, dont want 3 points for nothing. Thing is though I had it tracked last time and the tyres only lasted 6 months. So might not be that. -

everything standard 205/55/17 -
Hi, I bought brand new Falken FK452 tyres around 6 months ago and the tread on the nearest inner side is all gone, this happens on both fronts. I remember the part worns I had before had the same problem. I did have it tracked after the new tyres and before that two new track rod ends were put in. I kurbed a bollard about a year ago, could it be due to that, wishbone slightly damaged maybe?

mine totally packed up a couple of months ago, a mechanic stripped it down and greased it and some other stuff to it. It's been fine ever since, got a second hand one off someone here as a backup if need be.

Dont drive it, new oil pump, strainer, new oil and filter. see how it drives then. you could have blown your turbo.
-
No, way too expensive for a VRS with no service history check on autotrader and pistonheads there's alot better examples to be had.

Engine rebuild - 1.8T vRS - ITS ALIVE!

It was at the garage
-
How much you reckon theyll charge?

Hi, just thought id clean my car and organise my stuff, ended up going mad because i couldnt find my locking nut! My dad says it might be at the garage but I doubt it because the hub was changed over 2 weeks ago and since then im sure ive saw it in my car. If I've lost it can I get a replacement of ebay, something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-OCTAVIA-ALLOY-WHEEL-LOCKING-NUTS-/170561789874?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b6465fb2#ht_1220wt_906

Georgeous, how did you go about getting that lighting in?

Hello, I've had my VRS converted for around 6 months now and have done 10,000+ miles without any problems. The family business is LPG and we've converted 2 more VRS's, and a couple of cupras (one being a R). They all work really good on gas, the 1.8T AUQ engine is excellent for gas due to the hardened valves. Just make sure whoever installs it is LPGA approved and uses the most powerfullest kit they have. As for performance, it won't be as fast as super unleaded but a properly running setup will be just as good as petrol. Perhaps a slight decrease, but you won't notice it. One of our customers had a A4 1.8 (standard) converted at 80,000 miles its now on 220,000 miles and he hasn't had no problems. My A3 1.8 (standard) done around 20k on gas before I sold it, without a single problem.

It was a refurbished unit (I think he just refurbed/fixed mine, coulda been another one though) but from what you said if he knows what he's doing the turbo person should have done it correctly. Anyway, still would like to know the boost level lol. Cant find much on ebay what about this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-OCTAVIA-FABIA-RS-SMOKED-TURBO-BOOST-GAUGE-/370284525501?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5636ad77bd#ht_527wt_906

The reason I ask is because when the replacement turbo was fitted, I'm not sure if the person who done it set the boost level correctly or if he even set it at all. The car does boost quite well but obviously you cant just go on feeling so I wanted to know if the level was right. Is there anyone here local to Birmingham (stechford) who can check it for me with there vagcom machine?
-
Hi, my car is finally fixed. The only problems I have is a lambda sensor (02 bank 1) and maybe CV boots. How would I go about checking the boost level? I dont have vag-com but my dad has a variety of scanners at work including LAUNCH.

What is this grinding noise on my vrs?
sc0rpius replied to sc0rpius's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
100% Fixed! It was the right hand side wheel bearing all along... Good thing the person off here sent me that side bearing as had it changed today and all noise is gone. -

If it costs you more then a grand then youd be better off stripping and selling the parts then you can buy another vrs. They go cheap these days. -

vRS buying guide **Please read**
sc0rpius replied to chicken_eyebrow's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Good thread. I would emphasise one thing OIL!! Make sure that it is clean, not black and dirty/thick. If it is stay away, you could have the oil sludge problem that at worst can end up blowing your turbo and your engine! This is a common problem on 1.8T cars, so make sure you check this 100% Basically the oil pump/pickup gets blocked and stops oil from going to the head. So in the end no oil goes to the engine. So obviously a engine with no oil= dead engine. -
Ignition coil - choices at Eurocarparts?
sc0rpius replied to jdo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I changed all 4 of mine these last couple of weeks, bought the £31 OE ones. I would have saved £30 if I bought the cheaper ones but not really worth it tbh, they could go half as quicker as the original ones.
