  1. I know, bad form to reply to ones own thread. Anyway, I took the pollen filter out and ran the engine without it, for a few minutes. Absolutely no difference. :( So what the thinking? Is it that stuck valve on the compressor, or could it be a stuck flap in the dashboard ducting? **wanders off to check warranty paperwork**
  2. Another update. Kwik Fit did the re-gas, but had to give me my money back as there was no improvement. Can't fault the service, it just didn't work. Next thing to try is to whip the pollen filter out to see if it maks a difference. If not, may be time for some proper diagnosis at the dealer - luckily I have a warranty that should cover this, as there is noway I can afford a compressor or other majotr repairs. As an aside in the 18 months I have had the Octy it has been the most expensive car I have ever had in terms of maintenance. A new clutch (my fault), cambelt replacement etc have really added up.
  3. Just to update you all, it is booked in at Kwik Fit tomorrow morning. As other have said, they seem to be the cheapest and if it doesn't work I get my money back. Will update again tomorrow.
  4. Right, seems it needs a regass. Think I might try Kwikfit - any horror stories?
  5. Climatronic aircon threw a bit of a wobbly last week. Got in the car after work and it was a bit stuffy. No problem thinks I, climatronic will soon have me at a pleasant 18.5 degrees, and sure enough the fan started spooling up. Anyway, 10 mins or so passed and I notice the vents were pumping out hot air. The only way to get cool was manually turn the fan doen and open tghe window, as I don't have the optional off switch. Turning the temp down to LO had no effect. This behaviour continued all weekend, with no useful demisting being available, but a day off yesterday seems to have cured it as normal, pleasantly cool, service seems to have returned. Has anybody else had the same? Would a regas/aircon service be a good idea?
  6. I have the 2.0 fsi in Elegance form. Plenty of power for me, and peak mpg is above 40 on a long motorway cruise. Fwiw I thought the sport was a bit under equipped ie: you don't get parking beepers, dual climate or the jumbo box mp3 connector, which are really handy things to have imo. If you get one make sure there is plenty of life in the clutch - they aint cheap. ;(
  7. I went for the 2.0 fsi, as I couldn't run to a 1.8 TSi, and didn't want a diseasal. Downsides are it has a cambelt, but it has been more economical than my previous Focus 1.8, and when you plant the loud pedal things happen, rather than just noise... Just make sure the clutch is good - they are bit dear to replace, as I know to my cost.
  8. I got one off ebay for about £7. OK it hasn't got the line down it, and it doesnt thaw as quick when the heaters on, but it shows me what is behind me, which is all a mirror has to do really.
  9. Suddenly thsi afternoon the alarm went off, for no apparent reason. I relocked the car, but over the next hour or so it went off again and again. Colleagues suggested various fixes: 1. Relock all doors 2. Open and close everything. 3. Open and clean filler cap etc. Nothing has worked - it still goes off evey few minutes, seemingly at random. I am fast losing patience with it, though it seems quiet at the mo. I would therefore be grateful for any other suggested causes, and if possible a way to disable the alarm so it doent wake the neighbours all night. If its relevant, it is below freezing, and was below -10 degrees last night, though it has always been fine until now. Thanks in advance
  10. Before MY 07 there is no aux socket fitted seemingly. My 06 has an aux, so I would think a 56 would have one too. The phrase to look for is 'jumbo box'
  11. [ Q (for the fun of it): What does the Octavia offer that the Passat does not? A hatchback?
  12. I too am frustrated by the heated mirrors. With every car I have had previously, they come on with the heated rear screen, but as others have observed it is a separate switch function in the Octavia. I find it hard to tell whether they are on, and they are slow to work. Is the knob meant to 'spring' away from the on position when you twiddle it?
  13. I have the 2.0FSi in Elegance trim. Like others have said it is not a popular motor because if falls between the economy (diseasal) and power (turbo) stools. Like you I don't do the miles to justify diseasal so looked at the 1.6 FSi cos there are loads about, but it cant get out of its own way so I went for the 2.0. Its great, though cross fingers you dont need a clutch change - they are a bit dear!
  14. Thanks for the replies. It does appear I have been a bit stiffed on price, but when you are 300 miles from home and have been towed in by the RAC you can't really shop around. They didnt charge for the courtesy car, so I should be thankful for that, I suppose.
  15. Well the kit cost a total of £225 ex vat (at least that was what I was charged). A bit much for the three parts you mention, I would have thought?
  16. I recently had the misfortune to have the clutch fail in my 2.0 FSi Octavia, and the replacement clutch kit installed by the garage (not a Skoda agent, but very good) had the code VCU467. What does this kit include? What I am trying to work out is - has the dmf been replaced as part of the job? Thanks in advance
  17. I've been quoted £250 - £300 inc vat for cambelt & water pump at a respected indie in Stockport. Thats on a petrol, mind you.
  18. When the method is simple enough for a cetified mechanical klutz such as myself to get right I would dismantle the switch properly first. I sprayed the contact cleaner on a cotton bud first so that it would not go everywhere. 6 weeks later CC still working AOK.
  19. Got in the car this morning and the airbag light is on, in addition to the screen wash low light. The screenwash light is always on, even when the bottle is full to the brim - I'm used to it now. I appreciate the official answer would be to take it to a garage and have the codes read, but are there any common causes? The only recent changes in my use of the car is the climate has been turned down to 16 rather than 18, and I have used MW on the radio instead of FM, but these wouldn't affect the airbag - or would they?? Any helpful replies appreciated.
  20. Just want to say what a fantastic link it is to the stalk cleaning advice. I now have working CC for the 1st time in my ownership of the car (2.0 FSi Elegance). Only remaining fault (which I am living with) is a persistant low screenwash warning light, despite the bottle being full. Anyone know of a quick cheap fix?
  21. Everyone knows the armrest hole is there so that longstick lacrosse shafts can be transported - and deposit mud on the armrest/back seat!
  22. From previous threads its a 2.0 (same as mine). Hope he gets to the bottom of it -its a great engine when working properly.
  23. Check the runners for the window. There is likely to be something very small causing the window to 'think' there is an obstruction. Its a safety feature.
  24. Go on then. Whats it like? Mine is silver, and has the boot mounted CD changer, which judging by your other new thread yours doesnt.
