  1. Just an update to this. I removed the center console / armrest etc and everything went back to normal. Ran it like that for a couple of days to be sure. I then re-install everything and its been fine ever since. It must have been a connection or crimped wire somewhere.
  2. Thanks. I already tried it with the switch disconnected and it still locks and unlocks randomly.
  3. Thanks for the replies. No, Steering Angle, Steering Wheel and Steering Assist are all error free.
  4. Hi All, My Wife's 2006 Octavia vRS Combi has developed a problem where it will randomly lock and unlock the doors as you drive. It will do it on every journey but sometimes only lock while other times it will lock and unlock rapidly over and over again. VCDS shows: Address 42: Door Elect, Driver Labels: 1K0-959-701-MAX2.lbl Part No: 1T0 959 701 C Component: Tuer-SG 024 2438 Coding: 0000758 Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00000 VCID: 377D18A74640B7FA5F-8062 1 Fault Found: 00100 - Drivers Interior Locking Button (E308) 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent To test this I disconnected the interior locking button and the problem remained. I have since reconnected the switch. The car seems to like being locked more than unlocked and the switch behaviour mirrors this - it will always lock if the lock side of the switch is pressed but it often won't co-operate with unlocking. In order to unlock the doors we now press the unlock button on the key once we have remove it from the ignition. Has any one had this problem before? I have done searches and it looks like people had various lock issues with MK1 Octavias but failures on MK5 Golfs and MK2 Octavias seem rare. Is there a way to live monitor what the car thinks its doing with VCDS? Some kind of log of the bus communication? From my research the door control module is integrated into the drivers window motor. Before I dig into this am I right to think that the switch is not at fault given that the problem still existed when the switch was disconnected? Many thanks!
  5. Further update to this. I updated the firmware today with no issues. Reason for doing so was to sort out some niggles with BT streaming. I've also bought a lottery ticket for tonight's draw as per the above, fingers crossed!
  6. When it loaded up today it said loading cd/DVD on its own accord. Good news is that it is still working today and I've been able to load the NZ maps in it. All appears to be fine. Fingers crossed it stays that way but as said above I'll go out and buy a lottery ticket for sure!
  7. The map info is now populated but for some reason I can't upload a photo of it - I get an error uploading. Maps say West Europe supplied by Navteq and version 7074.
  8. Fingers crossed it stays this way - time will tell! I'm going to resist putting a disc in until I've got a NZ map disc sorted just in case I need to disassemble it again. Can't believe it really!
  9. As per the above I reassembled the unit and installed it in the car thinking that it would be no better. I noticed straight away that the DVD drive sounded different. Instead of the sound which I suspect was the laser attempting to move in and out I heard it spin (no DVD inserted however). Then I saw a message saying "Loading CD/DVD. Please wait..." which I thought was quite a good sign. By this stage I would have normally heard the voice asking for the DVD to be inserted but it never asked. I then hit the Media button and instead of the usual System Starting message I got a message I hadn't seen before "No medium available". I grabbed an SD card with a couple of MP3s on it, inserted it and it started playing. From there I can see that there isn't anything on the HDD, copy files to it, view the Nav screen (no NZ maps for me yet though) and search (European) destinations. No music stored on HDD: Nav screen without errors:
  10. Thanks for that. Now I'm not sure if you are going to believe this but 20 minutes ago my Columbus was in quite a few pieces on the floor of my lounge. I've now put it back together and installed it in the car. Guess what. It works!!!!! Not sure for how long or why but it's currently working. Photos to follow.
  11. Further pictures Error at startup: Phone working well: Radio working well: No maps: HDD degraded status. Part numbers, firmware etc. DVD drive:
  12. I thought I'd add some pictures to this. The bottom warranty tag was intact - only the top one was broken. Today I have further disassembled the unit (and therefore the bottom warranty tag is no longer intact) and there is a part of the main board with a white X on it that is cracked and damaged - is this likely to be my problem? Bottom of mainboard: Closeup of damage:
  13. Are the details that you need to check about the drive about whether it's DVD-3.5 or DVD-5? If so mine is DVD-5. Is this what you have? Thanks.
