  1. No I didn't in the end. I spoke to Revo who had a DSG map for the petrol cars (IIRC) but not the diesels. I think they said it was something to do with the way the engine and gearbox software interacts. I can't remember the details now unfortunately. Might be worth speaking to them or Diesel Bob as much water has flowed under the bridge since then.
  2. I think coding was part of the issue. Skoda wouldn't accept that Westfalia was OE although PF Jones said it was. As, in their eyes, it was after-market they just washed their hands of it. FWIW, I sold the Octy minus towbar and adjusted the price accordingly.
  3. Octavia has gone and XC90 sitting in drive. I'll miss some things about it but not everything. Let's hope the Volvo turns out to be relaible too. Lesson learned. If you want extras on these very over-complicated beasts, get the dealer to fit them and then you have no arguments when they don't work!
  4. Sounds like a different fault to mine but hopefully will get sorted. My dealer pulled 3 fuses but I can't find the piece of paper I wrote the numbers down on now :( 2 x 20A and 1 x 30A
  5. They quoted quite a bit more than that unfortunately. Buy cheap buy twice! Car's being traded for a Volvo so it almost doesn't matter now, apart from not getting what I paid for, of course. I won't make the same mistake this time so the new one's already booked in for a 'bar to be fitted at an official dealer.
  6. Update. Local Skoda dealer had the car in the other day and ended up having to pull the fuses on the towbar electrics to make the high beam assist work without showing an error. They showed me it working with fuses out and bringing up the fault with them back in in. I am now convinced that the Westfalia kit is causing this issue (how, I do not know, but it is) PF Jones state that the electrics/towbar are OE and tested with the Octy in all its guises so won't cause the fault. They offered to inspect the control module but to do that I need to spend another £100 or so having it pulled out and with no guarantee that (a) it will be found to be faulty or (b) that I will be recompensed for the cost. Me, I'm piggy in the middle with no one taking responsibility for the problem. As of this morning I am awaiting a response from PF Jones after a call with my dealer and Skoda UK. Meanwhile I have spent just shy of £600 buying and installing a towbar which I can't use. I'm now wishing I'd never bought the damn thing :(
  7. BTW, the fault code comes up without a trailer plugged in. I had the towbar fitted in anticipation of buying a trailer, but haven't got that far with that plan as yet.
  8. Thanks lads, Yeah it went back in today. I'll speak to them again in the morning. They siad the coding was incorrect, changed it, the fault came back and the coding had reset to pre-towbar. Very odd. I doubt it's the towbar but thought I'd ask... just in case. Glad I have a 5 year warranty as it ran past 3 years old last week.
  9. Hi all, I recently had a tow bar fitted to my Jan 14 VRS, TDI, DSG Kombi Octavia. It was done by a reputable local garage with a Westfalia removable towbar bought from PF Jones and the car had towbar prep installed so there has been no interference with fuse box or wiring other than to plug in the control module. Shortly after installation I noticed that the high beam assist now shows a fault and does not automatically dip when a car comes the other way. The headlamps go through their normal sweep when switching them on so the towbar doesn't appear to be the cause, however, my dealer says they have seen another Octavia with a Westfalia towbar which was causing other electrical woes in the workshop recently. Has anyone one on here with a similar spec Octy and a Westfalia towbar had an similar issues? I have searched but nt got any results hence the new question. Thanks in advance. Rick
  10. Do you, by any chance, know where the plug is in the back when T/B prep is fitted at the factory? I bought a Westfalia one from PF Jones last week which I've decided to get a local garage to fit, but it would save a few ££ if they knew where the plug was located before starting. Ta
  11. I think you can power them via the USB port, but you'd need to find a permanently live fuse. There are much cheaper alternatives on the market which might double up as a dash cam later...or maybe borrow one?
  12. Have you got a GoPro or similar? If so set it up to take a timelapse set of pix that when strung together show it dropping (maybe 1 picture per hour so you get an 11 second clip). You'll probably need some light in there for nights but realistically it's more likely to be a day problem due to the heat.
  13. Horrid wheels the Extremes . How do you fancy swapping them for a set of Pictoris 18 inchers?
  14. I used a vertical right angled usb connector so there's less visible cable at the top of the screen and a super capacitor to replace the battery. I have wired mine into the small storage box in front of my knee. Max memory size is 32GB. Bigger cards will work but the Mobius gets confused when the memory is nearly full and crashes. With the 32 card it records over the old recordings without problems. Never tried the park mode with this set up but I doubt the capacitor would be able to power it long enough.
  15. Are there electrics on the bike rack? If not the car won't know anything's there. If that's the case the most likely issue is the reversing sensors might detect your bike(s) and give you false alerts.
  16. RHS is similar on the Octy but the method to remove the 'box is quite different. The user manual is accurate but not clear until you've done it..... Do it like this...
  17. I agree it could do with a couple more sockets (like you say, for the back seats especially). I, and a few others, wired the cam into the fuse box beneath the glovebox which frees up the 12V socket by your elbow. You can also use the USB in the dash for charging phones, powering satnavs etc. When I wired up my cam I added 2 sockets in the cubby hole by the steering wheel. It's made all the difference!
  18. Boot lip protector Be careful with Collinite. I used it on my Beetle and the finish was excellent BUT any if dust gets in it, it acts like grinding paste and leaves swirls. I tend to use cream polishes now such as Autoglym and Meguirs.
  19. Mine's been pretty much OK so far but some have reported a rattle inside the B pillar on the passenger side which IIRC is loose wires so easy to fix.
  20. Hi Henry and welcome to the forum, I would recommend you contact your dealer who should be able to advise. Cheers Rick
  21. Opinions vary. I only use it on long trips to help reduce stress and tiredness. Others find it too intrusive and think it adds to the stress.. Edit - do you mean 'how does it physically work?'
  22. It's the same in heavy rain. The camera can't distinguish the road markings so the green light on the dash turns amber. That is the only warning you get though!
  23. Mine's a Jan 14 (Dec 13 build) and I suspect it's a SW glitch - will take ages to find and fix (as did the Cruise control drop out issue - but at least they did fix that fault)
  24. Fine IF the button actually worked. I did exactly what you describe but every few days the sodding SS would kick in at the worst possible time. I knew I'd pressed the button but on 2 occasions I actually saw the light switch itself off. Needless to say the dealer couldn't find the problem but VCDS did the job nicely.
  25. See if you can try before you buy to be safe.
