  1. Hi all, I’m considering an order for a 245 with Columbus option. I wondered, can someone tell me how Spotify integrates, if it does with Skoda. I was used to running it through my bmw which has now gone, but am curious as to how it works with Skoda. Also are there any options that anyone recommends?
  2. Hi all, I'm returning to the skoda fold and going to pick up a 2006 vrs with the standard radio in it. I am leaving my company car scheme so will miss being able to stream Spotify. Can anyone please recommend a decent replacement unit that would allow me to play Spotify via my iPhone and also Bluetooth? many thanks!
  3. And if it wasn't bad enough, I read on the news that the PM and the Cabinet Secretary have advised topping up and keeping some jerry cans of fuel in your garage! I despair!
  4. I don't disagree, there is always two sides to everything and I don't doubt they have responsibilities. However, that's an argument aside from my point though, it's the panic buying public that irritate me!
  5. Mine recently went (last month), on my 56 plate. I went for a patent compressor, which cost £250, total cost of work £450. I am lucky to have a trustworthy local mechanic, but given that Skoda wanted £450 for a branded one alone, without labour, it was a no brainer....especially, when it came with a 1 year guarantee. Co-incidentally, they had 5 on the shelf, it's a common fault apparently. I am more than happy with the one that's fitted now
  6. So, a tanker driver feels that 45k a year is not enough, or the working conditions are a bit difficult at the moment... That argument aside, they haven't actually gone on strike yet have they? No, and if they do at all, it will be for probably a 24 hour period over the Easter weekend. Therefore, I would like to extend a special thanks to every dim witted motorist who felt the need to panic buy fuel today, when they didn't need any fuel at all and empty the petrol stations long before they even go out on strike or even announce a date. To all those queuing out of the forecourts in Canterbury today, well done. An extra special thanks goes to the drivers I saw at Wingham though, when I needed to fill up as my gauge was on empty. So to the Transit van driver filling up half a dozen jerry cans, was it really necessary? Or indeed the old chap in front of me, paying for a whole £12 worth of diesel, yes £12! If everyone kept on buying as usual, then there wouldn't be a crisis, and it only serves to further illustrate how thin a line there is between law and order and total anarchy. Rant over!
  7. I did think about Skoda, but given that the car is over 5 years old, I would think they would, show me the door so to speak!
  8. Had a crappo kind of day today. Took my VRS in for an air con problem (was hoping it was the condenser). Bad news it was the compressor. After I had recovered from the near heart attack I'd had, when told how much Skoda want for such a part, my trustworthy mechanic is trying to source one from a specialist company. I have been mooching around the internet this afternoon, and this appears to be a common problem. Has anyone else had issues with theirs? My car is a 56 plate, but only has 17k on the clock. Would have liked it to have lasted longer than that, but depends on what the previous owner did to it I suppose.
  9. My advice would be make a sensible offer on that, no one expects to get the asking price, I certainly didn't when I sold my last car. I would also ring Skoda and check the vehicles history with them, what work it has had done, if any, with them and confirm services done and at what mileage. Some may consider it belt and braces, but to have an idea as to what the car has been through gives you an idea as to how well it has been looked after. Good luck
  10. If it helps, I bought a 56 plate VRS recently. Front and rear park sensors and xenons, but minus the dual zone and rear electric windows/jumbo box. I was aware that they are slightly less desirable without. However, I figured that no one ever sits in the back of my car anyway, so electric windows issue sorted! I never use climate control and the hot/cold dial is good enough for me and you get loads more little storage cubby holes in the middle without the jumbo box. As everyone will tell you, it is your choice, but for me the xenons and park sensors, oh and the low mileage (mine had 15000 miles on clock), that was more important to me. Good luck with the purchase, but it wouldn't bother me if the price and quality of the car is right
  11. I have recently had occasion to use the service department at Canterbury (for the first time) and after a 'painful experience' in fault diagnosis, I had reason to complain about the overall service received. It is a very long winded story, which I shall refrain from going on about here, suffice to say there was some 'learning' to have been gained. However, that wouldn't have been bad enough, but on collecting my car I spoke on the telephone with the group manager, who promised me that I would receive a call the following week, from the service manager about my complaint. He explained that they couldn't waive the relatively small bill, which I was genuinely content with, as there were defects that needed rectifing on my car. I was, however, offered a discounted service next time, by means of good faith. I waited, but no call was received and it was only when I replied to a generic text message about the level of service did I get the phone call back. Apparently, it had slipped those minds to call me. What followed was probably the most patronising phone call I have ever had the displeasure of receiving. I was in a busy supermarket at the time, so couldn't voice my disgust at the way I was being spoken to. The call resulted in basically being told that he felt I had had a fair crack and the promised offer on the service wouldn't be happening. On a specific note, this is poor customer service to offer and then withdraw any show of good faith, as it only serves to exacerbate the situation. I must say that there was no anger in the call, just an extremely patronising attitude on the part of this manager. Frankly, they have done me a favour in not even offering me a fiver off my next service, as I would rather drive to another county to get my car serviced, than to ever cross the threshold of that dealership again. This is purely and only due to the appalling manner in which I was spoken to, by a manager who kept repeatedly telling me he was very experienced in the motor trade. I would suggest not experienced enough, as I appreciate being spoken to like a professional and not a five year old child. I am a loyal Skoda owner and this is a shaming experience on this dealership.
  12. Despite me suggesting it could be the rear motor, as I had seen the issues on this forum, they diagnosed a steering column control unit. Once this had been ordered and fitted they realised it was nothing to do with that and looked again at the rear washer motor. Water ingress had caused the pcb to short out and this in turn had very wierdly caused the wiper to come on when the steering wheel was being turned. All in all, very strange! They had kept a part in stock, due to the common nature of this problem. As soon as the motor was replaced, problem has been solved.
  13. Interestingly, mine went last week too. It's a very long story, but the symptom was that everytime I turned the steering wheel to the left, the rear wiper came on. Very strange indeed, its operation other than that was fine. It's all been fixed now, but a mighty strange symptom!
  14. Hi, I have purchased a spankingly good condition VRS with very low mileage. The car itself is mint and has factory xenons and front and rear pdc. The only thing it didn't frustratingly have is rear electric windows, jumbo box. I can live without them all, but should I wish to retrofit windows, is this possible? I wondered if anyone here had done so and coud comment on cost, ease of doing so. Cheers
  15. Cheers, will do....going to have a good machine polish on her first then will post some pics. I am over the moon with her to be honest
  16. Hello to all. I have always found the forums a good place for info and knowledge, so with that in mind I thought I'd introduce myself. I bought a 54 plate VRS estate yesterday, in black. 40k miles, cruise, park sensors and in fantastic condition. I had a great drive home and am over the moon, especially as it's barely run in. I am a previous Volvo owner, and have owned many a V70 R. However, I used to drive a VRS at work and despite the lack of technology, compared to Volvo, my new VRS is a dream and by far the best car that I have ever had - already!
  17. I was all set to buy a facelft model last week. However, i passed a blue VRS with the LED's last night and I have to say they looked awful. So much so that I think I will look at a pre facelift model now I think. The design of the headlights is really good...if only they could have stopped there! Even changed my vote on the poll too!
  18. Cheers for the replies... I had a feeling that it may be that answer. Looks like is nearly new then. I have seen a cracking good VRS diesel 59 plate on ebay. Trouble is its 16k which seems a little much for one with 5700 miles on the clock already?
  19. Hi all, I am new to the forum and am looking at a facelift Skoda Octavia. As you all know at the moment Skoda are offering no VAT until the end of March on new cars, which makes a new car more attractive than a nearly new one. My question is can you use the government scrappage scheme and the no vat together??
