  1. Hi all, Not posted here in a while since I got rid of my Octy VRS... in the market for a new car atm, and looking seriously at a new Fabia VRS.... but its not going to happen. I emailed Skoda directly to see if this issue affected newly built models... and this was the response. While it might not be a big deal for some people I just know from what i've read it would annoy the living hell out of me. "Thank you for your email regarding the 1.9 engine in the Skoda Fabia vRS. I can confirm we collated all the necessary information and carried out an in-depth investigation and identified that the hesitation was related to the operation of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Our findings were reported to the Factory and technical specialists came to the UK to carry out their own investigation. It would seem that when the throttle is opened after being on overrun at around 1800rpm, the rapid change in EGR quantity causes the hesitation. This is a requirement for this engine in order for it to conform to EU4 emission legislation. Having fully investigated this matter we must conclude that the hesitation is a phenomenon resulting from ever more stringent exhaust legislation. It is not a manufacturing defect and has no influence on the durability or usability of the vehicle. Thank you for taking the time to contact us and I trust I have been able to clarify this matter. Yours sincerely,"
  2. i had this the other day. its more than likely the hazard switch (relay built in). however be careful before buying one... when i took mine to skoda, they replaced it and it was still doing it.. turned out to the be indicator stalk itself.. so before you spend on the relay....
  3. hum, my VRS gets around 35mpg, but im getting about 400 miles on a tank... thats not driving like a numpty thou
  4. thanks for the reply Mannyo, it seemed really good to me but i wanted to check ... now if i can just work out some way for them to put in parking sensors under warrenty.. hum...
  5. My indicators have been playing up, after clicking off i still get the *clicking* noise coming from the relay. Anyway went back to the dealers yesterday (its 2001 but i got 1yr parts+labour so thats good). They replaced the hazard unit, but it was still doing it.. meaning it was the actual indicator stalk itself. Anyway, they didn't have any standard stalks in, just 1 with the Cruise Control buttons on - and did I mind. Wasn't that bothered so said ok. Guy said in the future i can have cruise control fitted if i wanted - so i asked how much. He said i'd had the most expensive part under warrenty, so
  6. first thing i did when i bought mine (2001, 63k miles) was get the belt changed.... like you say piece of mind what damage would be done if the water pump went? guy looked at mine and said it was fine, thou said the cambelt had a bit of wear... what does the book say? 120,000 before a change or something mad like that :|
  7. check out this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t30931-asr-warning-light-problem-now-resolved.html DGW was kind enough to post of pic of the MAF (suppose its the same for your model?)
  8. did this last Friday (since the weather was finally nice!). Was pretty straight forward, managed to get a can of electrical cleaner for
  9. brilliant, thankyou both.. think im going to give it a go then
  10. Hey Nigel, interesting to read your post. I had this EXACT problem, and someone at the time said to clean the MAF. Being a total RS noob, and the fact i'd only just bought the car, i took it to the dealer, who replaced something to do with the braking (?). When i mentioned that people had mentioned the MAF, he totally dismissed it and said that, "that wouldn't affect the ASR light....". Anyway, whatever they did seemed to work. i'd done about 1,000 miles since having it done, and it hadn't popped on once. Then first thing this morning (did rain heavy last night) after going about 1 mile.. bang on it popped :( I switched off the car and it didn't come back on all the way to work (20 mile journey, 30-60 zones, so gave it a bit of a trash in parts). Thing is i'd rather not have to phone the dealer AGAIN with the problem, as its a 1 hour trip and if cleaning the MAF is an easy job i'd rather just have a go myself. Can someone provide me some details as to how difficult this job is, where i can find the MAF, and whether or not i should just take it back to the dealer (again) Thanks as always! D.
  11. Just drove back from work, clocked it, got to 20 miles and *bing* (without the sound fx mind you :p) on it came again. I'll give the dealer a bell tomorrow (got a years warrenty with it anyway) and tell them the info given here (thanks for the feedback). Its ok to drive though right?
  12. erm ... ok.. the MAF (seen above explanation of term...) wuttsit mean :P basically do i need to worry, and take it back to the dealer hehe.
  13. hehe naw i'm calm been running absolutely fine, like i say the only thing i've had done is the cambelt and tensioner dampner (?) changed on the weekend, simply cause it'd done 60k, and had a drive out on Sunday and to work and back Monday and no problems. what I was confused about was that when i switched the engine off, it went back to normal. I always drive with ASR light off/traction control on.
  14. Hi all, Did a search on the boards and found this thread here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27519&highlight=ASR regarding the ASR light being on. Just did my usual journey to work, and about 10 miles from base I noticed the ASR light was on. Pressed the button and didn't make any difference (still on!). Pulled into the car park and turned off the engine, gave it a few seconds and restarted the car, and its off (and when you push the button it goes on again). Is this something I need to worry about? I only got the motor about a month ago, or should I give the dealer a bell? Don't wanna phone up and say its doing this if I drive all the way back home and it doesn't do it once. Its a 2001 with about 60k on the clock, and I just had a new cambelt fitted on the weekend (though it didn't do this yesterday or sunday). Any suggestions, as always appreciated! :-)
  15. This is the fella you want... http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=20186&type=3&cat=33 Know what you mean about the ITrip.. its good in principal, but its not practical trying to change the FM frequency on the pod while driving :(
  16. hum, ill have to give them a bell back 2morrow about the tensioners... def get that done as well eh? phoned skoda dealer in sheffield, and just for the belt quoted me
  17. Hi all, Anyone recently had their cambelt changed? I've had my octy about 3 weeks, and its in good nick, about 60k on the clock.. and never had a cambelt change. I asked the dealer about it, and i've checked the forums here, and dealer reakoned 120,000 miles.. (erm.... ok...), and most people saying to get it done around 70k. Since its most likely been a rep car, im guessing its done a lot of motorway mileage, and for the sake of 7,000 miles, i'd rather just get it done now. I've phoned up a local garage with a good rep, and they've quoted me
  18. thanks for the replies guys, i'm gonna leave it for now as its not that noticable.. i might mention it to the guy whos gonna fit my new cambelt and see what he says. cheers.
  19. hehe mine was rattling on the way home from work the other day.. coming from the driver side in the back, was driving me nuts... realised i'd not pressed the door lock button, and bang.. stopped.. turned out to be the door lock button in the rear of the car!! lol.
  20. I found this thread here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t23739-slight-pull-to-left---%22they-all-do-that%22.html About VRS pulling slightly (ever so slightly) to the left when steering wheel is dead straight. I didn't realise on search it was in the Fabia forums, not the Octy ones. I only picked up the motor Sunday and its only something I noticed yesterday when driving. I'm in two minds atm, do i take it back to the dealer (a bit of a trek :/) or should I just pop it to ATS tomorrow morning to get a tracking check? I've not hit anything like potholes, and i've been careful going over speed bumps (tons where i live). I suppose i could have knocked it slightly outta alignment? Any advice would be appreciated, Cheers,
  21. necroposting! ... only had my car about a week, and i've just noticed this as well... was going to take it into ATS on the weekend to get them to do a free tracking check... but i think it might just all be in my head :/ i never noticed it for the first few days....
  22. I know Alpine's can connect up to the pods, (you can just buy the box too) http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=20186&type=3&cat=33 Also i've found my ITrip works pretty well
  23. Sorted (once i read the link properly!) Cheers for the link Stu, pulled that wire out and bingo
  24. you guys do indeed rock many thanks for the replies. i've tried the TP thing, and it didn't work, but i'll have a lookie tonight at the other suggestions cheers!
