  1. Driving back home this afternoon a series of problems began to occur with the car. Firstly after switching on the ignition there was no power with the heater controls, it did not illuminate and there was no reaction to any of the push button controls. When I started to drive I had to wind down the electric windows to stop the car steaming up, later on the windows failed to operate as well. Then the rev counter, temp gauge, fuel guage and speedometer stopped working but remained illuminated. The computer display then decided to give up too, but I did manage to get the car home when I discovered that I could not switch off my headlights . Eventually they did switch off on their own! When I tried to start the car again the engine keeps turning over but does not kick into life. Another problem is that about ten days ago the rear parking sensors gave up so this is all posibly related. Not the best way to start off the new year, but is there anybody out there who might have any idea what is going on. When the bank holidays are all done I will be contacting Skoda as it is still under their waarranty until February.
  2. Hi all, whenever I look at all the posts that are being made on the Superbs, a common theme sems to be the oil pump problem. It seems that everyone at some time has encountered this very expensive malfunction and I want to know is that common, or are there lots of Superb owners out there who have enjoyed thousands of milesof trouble free driving. I ask this because as you are probably aware, most mini cab companies always have a few Skodas within their fleet as their drivers would go for cars that are mechanically reliable and fairly cheap to run. I would think if the oil pump problem was common they wouldn't be interested in them at all. So are there any Superb owners out there who have never had an oil pump problem? It would be nice to know.
  3. Hi all, I have a 2.0 Superb TDi registered 2007 and am very happy with it so far. I have owned the car for about six months and it has been a great pleasure to drive. However reading on this forum about all the potential problems relating to oil pump failure, am I driving a car that is going to let me down in a big and expensive way. What I need to know, is it an oil pump problem affecting Superbs from old to new or is it just related to earlier models. My Superb is a 2007 elegance model and has 47K on the clock. Do I carry on driving and just have the regular services, or should I be taking more investigative action to ensure the reliability of the pump. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks
  4. Last week when driving down the motorway the oil warning light (yellow) came up on the computer dislpay. When I did stop and checked the oil level, it was fine, in fact it was nearly filled to the max and now every time the car is started the warning light continues to appear until I cancel it. Any ideas on the problem and there is still plenty of oil in the engine. Thanks
  5. I have an embarrasing situation where I have had my superb for about two months and when I went to check the oil level, I was unable to pull out the dipstick! To be honest I do not know if it is pulled straight out or does it have to be twisted to the left or right before retreival. What concerns me is that if I choose the wrong option I might end up breaking the dipstick and then have to buy a new one. I do have the manual but it just gives information on the oil level and nothing on the extraction method of the dipstick itself. Any info at all would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for this, I do have a good mechanic who I can pass this on to. cheers
  7. The superb which I have just recently bought did not have the skoda umbrella with it. Any idea where I could get my hands one? cheers.
