  1. Looks like a resounding thumbs up then ! I guess I'd better start looking for one Thanks for the multiple offers of taking me out for a spin in one. Really great offer. I'll let you know how I get on.
  2. Hi, I have owned a Fabia VRS Mk1 for 5 years, and had pretty much 130,000 happy, cheap, reliable, quick miles in it. It is now approaching 180,000, and I feel it is just simply too old, and a lot of expensive bits could be reaching end of life. So, Should I consider buying a mark 2 VRS ? I know coming to this forum is going to give me loaded answers, but it could go either way. Have any of you gone from Mk1 to Mk2 and with hindsight, was that a good or bad decision? I understand that some are oil drinkers, but what percentage are "bad", 20% ? 50% ? And if I were to buy one, what checks could or should I attempt to perform to make sure I don't end up with an oil guzzling nightmare. If I buy a 2012/13, could I still take it for an oil consumption check if one hadn't been done, and I thought it was bad ? It seems odd knowing that there is an issue, that I would still seriously consider one, but good ones seem to be very, very good, and their owners rave about them. Thoughts please, and if you are super negative about it, similar alternatives ? You know, half decent MPG, fairly nippy, fairly reliable, etc etc. Will be doing 100 miles a day. mainly motorway (Mark 1 Fabia VRS was/is perfectly adequate) Regards, SoftyEng.
  3. Interesting read. (Sorry for hijacking thread) My original turbo just gone on my 170k miles VRS, very pleased its lasted this long. I had hoped it would just be the piping, of course, but not the case this time. Intercooler went, and was changed at about 140k. Still getting over 400 miles per tank, but most of that is motorway cruising. Looking at alternatives for turbo replacement. (Garage is as well). It's quite funny to be "unhappy" when it's done this many miles, but everything else is running smoothly, and feel that its worth while replacing the turbo and continue using the car. Any idea what the average life is on one of these, before it becomes uneconomical to repair them ? I suppose it down to luck of the draw, and how hard they are generally driven ?
  4. Ah, thanks for linky, exactly what I was looking for, but didnt find. Any ideas on pricing if Intercooler needs replacing with standard SMIC ? I've found some pricing on the FMICs. Thanks for quick response !!
  5. Hi, Couple of questions for you experienced VRS people on here, Been searching and reading up on Fabia VRS Intercooler problems, and seem to have found that most problems are to do with the pipe "popping" off (Not actually a broken Intercooler). Is it easy to access this pipe to check to see if it has just popped off, as I have the symptoms that many people have described. Do I have to take off the wheel arch inner lining, and access it from inside the wheel arch from behind, or can you see/feel it from underneath, if I jack it up ? If it is not the pipe that has parted company, is a damaged/broken Intercooler likely ? (And next question, if I just get it replaced with the standard SMIC, would this be much cheaper than going for the better FMIC kits ) Interested in peoples views and their experiences. . . Regards, SoftyEng
  6. Semi-hijacking the thread, but for a good reason :- Had my vRS for approaching 2 weeks now and have managed to fill up brim to brim twice. The first tankful I used up with uhm rather "playful" driving. The second tank, I decided to see what economy i could manage (60 mph, slipstreaming trucks etc) Same roads for both, 90 miles a day on M1 and A1, and about 8 miles through Leeds center in none- rush hour traffic. I was amazed at the difference between the onboard computer average MPG, and my actual, real, calculate MPG Computer said 59 MPG and actual was 45 MPG on hardish driving tankful Computer said 79 MPG (!!) and actual was 59 MPG on my Granny driving tankful. (At one point just after filling up and doing 20 miles on A1 the computer figure actually crept into the 90's, briefly) Computer is therefore WAY out. It was out by approx the same amount on both tanks (33% over estimate in fuel economy) So . . . (getting back to the thread) As it sounds like the overestimation is consistent, I should be able to effectively calibrate this out ? Not looked into VAGCOM yet, but any experts out there care to comment on whether this is possible ? Regards, Kevin.
  7. Hi All, Owner of a newly aquired 56 plate Fabia VRS. I did lurk here a while before I bought, and it helped me decide upon the Fabia VRS, and what to look out for when buying one. Owned many boring cars to do my 100 mile round trip commute. I also own an old TVR wedge 350I (sunny weekend fun). I think I have found a great car to commute in, very impressed by its peformance so far. Going to head straight over to the Fabia forum, and tuck right in . . . Kevin.
