it circulates. the pump will empty the reservoir in around 3 or 4 seconds

Looking to sell my mk1 05 vrs. This is not an advert. Just wondering how other managed to advertise and sell a relatively old car which is desirable to some. Also any idea of values? Black, 123k, reasonable condition, had most major items serviced/replaced in last few years.

Does power steering fluid circulate?
STSKODA replied to mbp's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
yup, you need the green vw spec fluid, and 1 litre is more than enough for a change. make sure you go lock to lock with the wheel after the change to fully flush out any air before checking final level -

it constantly reciculates. better way to replace it is disconnect the return into an old bottle. Run engine for 4 seconds then switch off. Top up reservoir and repeat until return feed runs clean. Reconnect and then fill to level -
your vw specialist should be able to get you a boot seal from TPS - not expensive, easy enough to change yourself if you want to diy it rear brakes easy to do, you will need a caliper rewind tool. If you need new calipers look on ebay for green painted trw ones which are basically oe but will fit in with the look of the car

AFAIW it is one piece OEM from factory from cat back the replacement two piece could be more difficult - ring round breakers for a stainless retrofit???

Minor Oil Overfill - Longterm after effects?
STSKODA replied to edwardw's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I really wouldn't worry about it just drive and keep an eye on levels and for leaks, it's not like you can do anything more than that about it now... -
on a mk1 vrs they are sided - if you fit them upsiode down there is a chance the drivers side one will hole the turbo "pancake" pipe they will "fit" though, just the extra thread protruding presents an issue
-
the "which question" was for what towbar to get - he already has the car tbh any towbar will do - I got the swanneck westfalia one to minimise cutting of the bumper, also think they look better than a flange one but that's just imho
-
the golf one uses the same connectors - as for swapping the wires round - sorry can't remember, it wasn't too hard to figure out though
-
a witter golf mk4 wiring adaptor simply plugs in and piggy backs off the tail light clusters a wee bit of fettling with a wiring loom pick lets you swap the connections around to what they are on an octavia - mine was around £30 save having to cut into the loom
-
I tow a 16ft boat with mine, power wise it is fine, make sure your rear springs and shocks are up to it though, if they are original they are likely to be knackered or quickly will be once you start towing. As for pulling things, you'll be fine for a journey like that, the car will do it, but does get shoved around a bit due to it not being the largest in the world. For towbars I got a westfalia swanneck one that did A3, golf and octavia, it was many £££ less than the sole octavia one. I'll try and find you a part number - think this is it westfalia 305222 check online for fitting instructions, it really is simple also if you are handy with electrics you can get a golf towbar wiring adaptor and swap pins round to get an oe fit octavia one

Cam belt water pump & "Some other bit"
STSKODA replied to Jonathan_1.8T's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
do it all while you are in there, including full coolant change and thermostat, if skipped you know it will go a year or so after -

it will be the tensioner gates do a kit for around 100 with it - water pump is around £40 at most, you can get a better quote than that for a cambelt replacment... -
VRS MK1 Rear callipers worth anything?
STSKODA replied to Jux's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
think they are a popular upgrade for other mk4/fabia based cars sell them on for someone to refurb
