  1. When mine went in for it's 80,000 miles service in July (at 88,688 miles ) they did the 28F7 recall and replaced the coil packs. I'd never had a problem with the previous ones but it was free and in there anyway However in the last few weeks the car has been playing up a lot, not idling, sounding really bad when starting from cold and now even when warm it struggles under load below 1800rpm, spluttering and nearly stalling unless you give it a bootful of revs or dip the clutch. I checked the coil packs tonight and they all seem to be 06a905115D's which are the new batch. Does this sound like a coil pack problem or something else?
  2. Good news, we went and looked at a 2.0 Octy Elegance Estate, 80k in red with the variable boot floor and a towbar fssh and put a deposit down, shade over £2k He got a really good price for the one they wrote off as well (more than he paid for it 2 years before!!) it would never happen that way to me lol oh and not a sand/bamboo interior either lol
  3. Unapologetic bump of an old topic.......having been with my brother to buy him another Octavia estate with a Variable boot floor, I'm completely sold on the idea, it would be perfect for me as I carry an awful lot of stuff for work (wellies, gloves, hi viz, saws, hazard tape, tools, ropes, spray paint etc). Thing is I have a mk1 vRS Hatch. Did they do one for the mk1 hatch? I've seen it for the mk2 but I dare say it wouldn't fit a mk1 and the estate version wouldn't fit either. I'm guessing the bracing bars in the back of a vRS would get in the way as well :( Anyone ever seen one fitted in a hatch, any photos out there? It is obviously less of an advantage in a hatch (i.e. doesn't level out the sill to boot floor) but they must have sold a couple if it was available? cheers Tim
  4. Ok so the decision is probably going to be a second hand engine going in. I think his is an AQY engine (same as Golf GTi mk4/Bora/Beetle) but there aren't masses about. However it would appear that the APK 2.0 ran at similar time in similar applications, is there a massive difference? or is just sticking with the AQY the best hassle free bet.......
  5. well to be fair to my older brother, I am the car nut in the family so he probably ignores my usual waffling. Oh and i was the one who was up till midnight the day before his wedding fixing his mini and doing subsequent repairs........still gone are the days when I could have supplied him with a spare car from my fleet of 7 cars :( joys of buying a house inside the M25
  6. No Ben I don't have a Polo Classic. I have a mk1 Polo hatchback on an X plate :wonder: And yes I had told you about the engines in Golfs/Bora/etc being the same maybe a 1.8T engine would be a bit much for your driving ability though... oh and no the engine is NOT going in the back of the vRS (we'll throw it in the back of Jon's Fabia instead ) You know what I would do though, second hand engine, and now you understand why I still have the Fiesta after 10 years, you can get quite attached to cars but I'll let you expain that to mum :p Have to say though his Octavia is in pretty good nick really mechanically spot on (well except the obvious) and it did take a while to find one in the elegance estate spec that hadn't been cabbed!! Oh and no I won't fit the new engine for you, I'd be kicked out by Mum and Dad for sure!! Family eh
  7. oh joy, wouldnt have thought it'll be cheap either. Oh well just another thing in the random sound generator that is my Octy vRS Must sort out those squeaky rear brakes as well
  8. I've been wondering what that noise is!!! Mine used to do it until you got to 30mph and then it would shut up, but now its always doing it. If you press the recirculation button it gets louder. So if it is the flap motor (which sounds likely) whats the cure? can i just take the old one apart and clean it or is it a new part from the stealersdealers. Mines a 51 vRS btw.
  9. had this happen to me today as i pulled off the drive, very annoying, even more so as it was the top most spring. This means the spring is seating right so it's pretty much undriveable
  10. I found a similar issue the other day so i took off the broken one and got the part number off that, went to my Seat dealer and ordered them from there. Nearly had a heart attack when he told me they were £9 each inc vat!! £28 for three bits of threaded rubber mounting :(
  11. I had a similar fault on my Toledo V5 with the blower fan motor. Turned out the connection plug was corroded so i re wired it to just normal spade connections and it was fine.
  12. I got an engine management light as well during the snow :( but after a few days it vanished Also got an infuriating tapping sound coming from behind the glovebox and the engine under tray flew off after being damaged in the snow on the A1 on HCristmas day Add to that a sticky rear caliper that the garage say is u/s :(
  13. I bought my vRS for improved economy..........my Toledo V5 was returning between 19 and 21 mpg most weeks and it was getting expensive so the jump up to 21-25mpg average is most wwelcome unfortunately a sticky rear caliper is dragging it down to V5 levels
  14. Siezed or sticky rear caliper. Mines got one on the offside at the moment, does my nut in. Went into the garage for mot and new rear pads and the mechanic reckons i need a new one (£180+ from skoda at trade!!) Gonna see if another garage will rebuild it or unsieze it!
  15. Looked like you guys had a good time, the stand was massive and looked really good i must say. I was in the black Octavia vRS parked a little further up with the Ax ownersclub. Unfortunately my Ax Turbo wasn't ready so i took the Octy out about 4pm for a session. Was quite surprised about how it handled on track! It felt quick down the main straight but it rolled like a boat in the corners and felt really twitchy and slid an awful lot. Im guessing the Federal tyres were as much to blame but it felt a real handful out on track. :S I did smile and nod as i passed the stand because people kept looking at the Octy with it's briskoda stickers and thinking wheres it come from The Octy redeemed its self on the way home though, eating up motorway miles with relish and did me proud.
  16. Cheers for that I fitted a towbar bar to my Toledo V5 a while back and it looks to be a very similar set up to that. Confirmed what i thought, could do it myself but i'm rubbish with electrics so would rather pay someone to wire it up etc, never did get round to it on the Toledo
  17. I picked up mine from a small trader via AutoTrader. 51 plate RS in black with 69k and full skoda history (belt changed) 4 new tyres and an aftermarket alarm. Is due a service soon and has a few marks, minor scrape on one arch but is otherwise sound. I paid £3500 and they taxed it as well so effectively i paid £3380 from them.
  18. Definately not HiDs! Did a good few hundred miles in her over the past few days and was very pleased to get nearly 400miles from a full tank of petrol so much better than anything else i own currently!! Really really missed two things from my Toledo though: Centre Arm rest (im going to unbolt it from the Toledo and put it in the Octavia) cruise control also going to need to have a towbar fitted at some point as well.......... (trots off to use the search function )
  19. Yes this was the one in Hackney or there abouts. They're not HiDs it just looks like that because i had dipped beam on and it's shining into the camera.........unless i actually do have HiD's in there, i'll have to check that out now you mention it!!
  20. Well i bought it anyway, drove really nicely, full service history with loads of reciepts etc. Has already got BRISKODA stickers front and rear which is a bonus. Also found out its got a secondary alarm for some reason with an key/chip immobiliser somewhere? bit wierd that i thought and its linked into the central locking as well so i can't see the point as the normal key fob does all that. Anyway very pleased with how nippy it is and how economical it is as well Pics: need to get a few bits touched up/sprted but otherwise i look forward to many happy miles in this car
  21. Hi and apologies for this being my first post!!! :p I am a bit familiar with Octavias, my dad had a Elegance TDi on a Y reg bought brand new, and my older brother runs a 2.0 Octavia Estate and is also a member on here somewhere..... However I need a bit of assistance regarding a Octavia VRS. I went to look at one at a dealer in East London and it had a BRISKODA sticker in the window. It looked fairly decent, a little nick on the bumper down low, and a scratch on the drivers rear arch. Engine started ok and sounded fine if a little tappy. I've read through the very helpful buyers guide and will take that with me when i go to test drive it tomorrow. However what I'm really curious about and interested in is if the car is known on here, if the previous owner (it was in a lady called Louise's name i think) knows anything i should know before parting with £3k+ It has 8 stamps in the service book and the clocks say 69k so its due one (the heel area of the VRS mats has worn quite badly though?), belt was changed around 10k ago, 4 new tyres, reg no is BX51NLF and its up for £3495 but im hoping to get him down to £3200 or less as it needs a bit of touching up and the drivers seat needs a clean. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and apologies for this being my first post, if i get it I stay around honest!! Tim p.s. I forgot to add that im looking at this as a step up in fuel economy from my Volvo T5 auto and my Seat Toledo V5 which I blew up on the M25 last night :(
