Hertfordshire...I see theres a superchip company in St Albans. Can you recommend alternative company? Many thanks.

Relax uncleRic...I know where you are coming from. Its my girlfriends car, its all in her name. She paid for it and have use of it providing I do all the servicing etc. Thats all above board isn't it? Its her means to get to work. I contribute by paying for things such as new tyres...and possible chipping etc. Thanks for the advice.

Hi guys and gals...I am contemplating getting my VRS chipped. My 05 VRS comes with standard factory fittings and I have not attempted to Mod nor will I....apart from maybe painting the grill black which looks kinda groovy. And I would be tempted to put on 18inch alloys, although I can't really justify it as I'm more than satisfied with the bog standard 17" ones. My question is, would you bother with the chipping? I like the sound of unleashing the power and also superchip reckons it can save you fuel (depending on how you drive). Has anyone out there in the same boat done a sneaky chip? I appreciate there could be an implication on insurance and admittedly I am a named driver on my girlfriends insurance with Sheila's Wheels! Lol. Well at less than £200 per year...wouldn't you?

Very nice indeed...where did you get the VRS badge?

yeah it looks good...I've got a replacement black bumper on its way via ebay from some geezers down Poole way...Roadside rescue who specialise in skoda's. £75 + PP....

Tell me about it...I'm ****ed to say the least that the initial wheel balancing/ alignment was not done properly. The garage gave me a discount for the new tyres/ brakes but no where near enough for what I paid for the balance/ alignment!

Turns out it was mishapen rear tyres! And it needed new front disc pads :'(

No worries bowders...cool let me know re: spare spoiler! As long as its black!

Just bought a 05 VRS with 58k on the clock for slightly more...but the rear spoiler is bent which just annoys me (getting it replaced) and its got some serious balance issues (which should be eaily resolved). Aside from that its great...wish I'd seen yours sooner! Oh well... -
Cambelt advice for octavia VRS
JezvRS replied to saxby2026@yahoo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Having to change a cambelt every 4 years seems excessive to me, particularly if you are doing less then 10k miles in it per year. This may be recommended by garages...the same sort of garage that recommended that I change my head gasket on a Puegoet 206 because it should be done after 10 years and apparently it was leaking oil. Later I discovered neither was true. I take these 'recommendations' on board (with a pich of salt) but look at this this way, the cambelt could last 4 years...it could also last 10 years. If I did 60k in 4 years I'd definitely change it but if I do 20k in four years, I'll leave it at least another year, perhaps even two. -
Hi all, Apologies if this has already been discussed... I've recently had the wheel alignment & balancing done on my 05 Octy VRS....alas the issues have not been resolved - if I let go of my steering wheel it still pulls slightly to the left and I get the good ole shakey stevens steering wheel at 60mph (then it goes). I also swapped the rear tyres with the front and I swear there is now a noticable slight sort of rubbing noise at 40mph that also goes away. I will take it back in, however I watched the garage (formula 1)balance the wheels and do the alignment and I am suspicious that there is another issue at hand here? That said, all evidence would point towards the balancing. Which would lead me to think that perhaps the tyres are the culprit (they were on the car when I bought it and they look like cheapo's)...but if this was the case surely the garage would have pointed this out!?? I'm at a loss...do any fellow owners have experience with this? Should I be looking at a bigger issue here? Cheers, Jeremy

Cheers Bowders...on that advice I will replace the spoiler!

Perfect this is just what I need! A thousand thank you's! Could any one confirm whether this also addresses some balancing issues i.e. shaky steering at certain speeds? -
Cambelt advice for octavia VRS
JezvRS replied to saxby2026@yahoo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
It does seem like an unnecessary expense although the argument (to get it done) will always be think of the cost if it goes....as I understand it its not a huge expense yet its still £300 odd squid. I can't that you'd be taking much of a risk by waiting until your 100k service though mate...you're not doing high mileage so the risk is minimal. Garages always seem very keen to pressure you to do these things before they really need doing. Its their bread & butter after all yet sometimes I get the feeling they are leading you down the wrong path for their benefit as opposed to yours. -
My fellow Octy VRS owners, I've recently purchased a black VRS and one down point, which is more an annoyance than anything, is that the rear spolier is bowed or bent slightly towards the centre ...almost like someone sat on the jolly thing after a very hot day. Its barely noticable...infact most don't notice until I point it out. My question(s) to you is:- a) Would you leave it as is and save your money and hope most people will think is supposed to be like that (and be permanently annoyed by it) or Pay £75 for a second hand one that is straight? Baring in mind with option I think I saw a thread in here somewhere regarding the difficulties of removing said spoilers? If anyone can shed any light on this I would be very grateful indeed. Any thoughts? Jez.
