  1. Excellent post Joel. Your work gave me the confidence to fit a www.towbarsaustraila.com.au removable import from Poland, total cost delivered $600. Some things to know about this unit; I ordered my kit to be compatible with the factory reversing sensors assuming this meant trailer control unit to plug into the pre-wired socket. The wiring loom that arrived was a universal diode blocked 7 pin loom. This according to the instructions does not require coding but does require cutting into existing wiring. I am now attempting to source the proper controller unit and loom to get the whole package as I will be towing a caravan close to rated limits. The towbar mount protrudes below the bumper and the removable cover cannot be replaced when the tow hitch is removed. I have put together some images fro the installation of the towbar to compliment Joel's work on wiring installation. Public document here
  2. Brilliant work Joel, You gave me the confidence to 'give it a go'. My Towbar fitting description here. (not as nice as yours but not as rough as the NZ version) I made a newb mistake and ordered a factory reversing sensor enabled wiring loom to find it was a universal on arrival. Now trying to source the Trailer Controller Unit version for my Aussie Yeti. Pictorial Album with comments here.
  3. Can anyone recommend a supplier that will ship to Australia. Skoda pricing here is insane, but my dealer will install if I source the aftermarket hardware. Superb ll MY2009 sedan.
  4. Continental sport contact 2 205/55/16 94v ran just over 70,000km mostly country driving. Would have put them on again except cost $320 per tyre in Oz. Been a fan of GT Radials for wear and road holding for many years. Fitted new release UHP1 215/55zr/16xl 97w. Very happy with ride, noise and improved speedo accuracy (5% down to 2% below ground speed), $181 per tyre
  5. Thanks people for the logical advice. Have a service due so will add it to the list (again). I've had the over temp alarm go off twice in 60,000km and the temp gauge rise above normal half a dozen times. In all instances an immediate and sustained forward motion quickly brought the temp back to normal range.
  6. Service replaced the faulty air conditioning compressor in my car last week and since then my auto window up/down on all windows has failed, even though the setting is enabled in MFD. I presume they disconnected the battery for an period of time. Phone call to Service suggested I hold down the open switch for 5 seconds after window lowers, then hold close switch for 5 seconds after window closes to reset the auto function. This was repeated for each window. Problem persisted. Booked the car in for a hands-on fix. This morning the windows auto function returned spontaneously for all windows after startup. I'm happy, but why?
  7. Radiator Thermofans fail to start (since new) when idling or in traffic snarls. Car overtemp warning lamp and alarm will sound so that part is working. Service unable to sort problem. As soon as there is sustained forward motion the gauge quickly drops back to operating temperature even on the hottest days (mid 40s Celcius). Any advice?
  8. 191.69km/day actually, and no BS. My work takes me from Albury to Tweed Heads and west to Dubbo based in Sydney. Glad I don't drive a petrol powered something. Why am I passionate about SoyDiesel? Click on this link for australian fuel industry standards and fuel comparisons
  9. Have been running B20-B100 Soy Diesel from NatBioGroup retail outlets for 60,000km for ten months in Superb II. Before that in PD1.9 Octavia. The good news - Soy Diesel has much less particulate (68%) than mineral diesel so isn't expected to clog the DPF as quickly. The bypass of diesel into the sump when burnoff of the DPF occurs is the concern. SoyDiesel has double the evaporation temp of mineral diesel and so doesn't evaporate from the sump under normal running conditions as does mineral diesel. BUT less particulate of SoyDiesel means less DPF burnoff means the oil change intervals are sufficient (with my running pattern) to remove any sump buildup of biodiesel. If you're worried (rising dip stick level or have your sump oil chemically analysed), change your oil more frequently.
  10. I have both the 2007 Octavia II and 2009 Superb II. It's all about cost saving! Disappointing to discover the several features that had been dropped off in the newer model but it didn't stop me buying the Superb. The bonuses in the Superb far out way the disadvantages for me.
  11. @Superbalicious - Well done on the bar code....
  12. My Superb TDi DSG6 does this beautifully. Assists cruise control driving like no other car I've driven. My brake pads are 20% worn @ 45000km. This feature properly used is doubling the life of brake pads and rotors.
  13. My 12 2009 plated Superb II was delivered (Australia) with Continentals and they are performing well. I am very happy with the road holding in wet and dry and at 54000 km since new they are about 2/3 worn. I have rotated the tyres front to back at 30,000 service and may do it again at 60,000 to control the wear.
  14. I am in Australia and have the same problem with a 12 2009 plated superb II, 54000km. I bought the car in March 2011 and so through winter didn't really test the Aircon though I run it most of the time for dehumidifying the cabin. I also drive mostly long trips. As summer approached the air con (cooling) would take up to 20 minutes to cut in. Until then it was venting what seemed to be 'warmed' air relative to outside air temperature. Of course the service centre couldn't fault it and on a trip to Brisbane (1700km return) last weekend the air didn't work at all. This time I got the attention of the service centre. First analysis was a faulty High pressure sensor which apparently has the ability to shut the compressor down if it's not happy. Ordered, replaced next day. System worked on testing for less than a minute. Further testing revealed compressor failure. Replacement on order from Singapore. ETA 10 days. (Turns out it was 2 weeks being fitted next week) Will keep you posted. Trip to Albury next two days (1100km return) with forecast highs of 28 degrees AAgh! BTW, I'm luving the drive, too bad about expecting to be comfortable as well!!!! Update 4 weeks later. Air con Compressor replaced under warranty. Instant air on startup.... nice!
  15. 33,000km update 30000km service passed without incident or error codes. Continue running B20-40 Soy Diesel (i buy B80 from Kempsey Retailer (winter mix) and add 20 lt jerry can to ~20 litres of Caltex by refilling the tank once it reaches 2/3 empty. I then fill it from a Caltex pump again once it reaches around half a tank. I then repeat the above cycle. Combined consumption since new is averaging 5.0-5.1 lt/100km (brim to brim) with mostly country kms.
  16. 26000km update using B20 soy diesel; 15,000km service passed without error code or problem. No observable changes in oil level or quality in sump doing mostly long run kms, I expect DPF burn off trgiggers may be reduced due to long runs and Soy diesel properties of less particulate.
  17. 4 weeks ago my wife came to a sudden stop after drive shaft snapped in gearbox. (will post the details when I get the car back) The Ocy II has done 75000km and is out of 3 year warranty by 3 months! Skoda agreed to full warranty for a replacement gearbox. New box is due in from Germany this week, (after ash cloud and other delays). Hoping for a delivery this Friday - -time in total 5 weeks, but under warranty! Thank you Skoda.
  18. Confirmed by GPS. Do a google maps point to point, this will confirm the distances to the level of accuracy required for the calculations presented.
  19. Agree on the dpf potential problem. The CR engine is VERY fussy about no ash oil. I can't imagine why two stroke oil would be no ash.
  20. Recent trips from Sydeny to Albury to Sydney, 534 km each way. brim to brim 4.8lt/100km average speed 92km/h. Maxidot consumption shows 4.4 litres/100km each sector. Running SoyBiodiesel B20
  21. 7500km update; (halfway to routine service) now running B20 - B30 (see previous post) Yass>Albury>Sydney 834km, average speed 92km/h, consumption brim to brim 40.01lt = 4.79 l/100km (4.4 on maxidot for 530km trip both ways, maxidot average consumption since new 5.1lt/100km) No alarming side effects in engine oil.
  22. Having been to the servo at Marrickville yesterday and spoken with Natbiogroup (soydiesel manufacturer) the press release has presented part of the story it seems.... Weekly sampling has been carried out by the Commonwealth Department for the Environment and Water Resource for several months checking the 100% content of B100. The SoyDiesel supplied by Natbiogroup produces 1/10 of the allowable 10mg/kg sulphur under combustion according to the certification test results here From the Sydney Morning Herald Australia's main supplier of biofuel made from soybeans, National Biodiesel, has supplied Franks Automotive in the past but was able to prove it did not supply the fuel that failed the tests. Ah well back to SoyB20 (still available) until bureaucracy catches up with science. So my 3200km test run results Sydney>Brisbane>Sydney>Albury>Sydney; - no visible change to oil levels or colour or consistency after the run. - average consumption brim to brim 5.5lt/100km (5.3 on Maxidot), average speed 92km/h (GPS) - driving pattern cruise control at road speed limit mostly 110km/h Sweet car to drive!
  23. 1500km update; Oil tested 3 times now by petrochemist. No readable SoyDiesel in sump oil to date, under mostly careful suburban driving conditions, sipping ~6.9lt/100km. This driving pattern should be setting off DPF regeneration using normal fuel, but the science suggests there has been minimal regeneration required. Engine running like a dream. Next 8 days brings 3,000+km of freeway driving (Sydney>Brisbane>Sydney>Albury>Sydney), so that will be a useful comparison. Nice to be driving a comfy cruiser!!!!
