  1. So after a year of ownership time has come to say goodbye to LR60xxx. After waiting 26 weeks for delivery the experience was great, my race blue VRS with every option really stood out in the company car park and on a regular basis people enquired about her. For me, almost perfect, apart from the DSG gearbox which just always felt like I was in the wrong gear, too geared for economy, manually changing gear solved this but in traffic it then dropped down into 1st to easily, making the drive a little jerky. For the price which included the VAT being knocked off there is no better car, the options I got were amazing, the best of which were the full leather and bending headlamps. So what next? A promotion at work see's an increased budget so I've opted for a 5 Series 520d M Sport, its clear that this car is in another league to my VRS I just hope I get the same feeling every time I press the start button. Spec wise a few options, mainly upgraded navigation and audio, otherwise standard as the pricing is crazy! Time to disappear off into the crowd, thanks for the advice and maybe just maybe when my wifes MINI ends its lease a VRS will return. Cheers Dan
  2. All WK22/2011 MDI update available here http://www.volkswagen-zubehoer.de/fileadmin/pdf/media_in/mdi.bin.enc Just copy the ENC file to the root of a USB stick and insert into MDI, takes about a minute to update, progress shown on MDI screen. Fixed the issue when playing tracks from my iPhone, basically it was stuttering slightly between tracks. Thanks Dan
  3. Hi Can anyone recommended some "headlight washer" friendly screen washer fluid. I'm currently using Halfords Premium Pre-mixed (the 5 pink stuff in 5L bottles) screen wash trouble is every time the headlight washers kick-in I'm left with a nasty soapy foamy mess all over the front wings and wing mirrors. I'm guessing the premium screen wash is too soapy in its formula and the pressure of the headlight washers is causing it to foam up even more. Any recommendations. Thanks Dan
  4. Slide the unit out and it will be printed on a label on the top. Assuming no other firmware has been applied since new then that should be the version.
  5. Ok thanks for the advice, the problem appears to be that it doesn't unlatch.
  6. Just a very quick question, I've noticed on my MY11 VRS Hatch then when I hold down the boot release button on the remote for about a second or two the lock mechanism appears to try and pop the boot slightly, however it never unlatches. Should it? Seems weird to try and fail?
  7. Same happened to me today, two months old and I now have a squarish wheel. Google Wicked Wheels, I think they charge about £60 per wheel.
  8. Just clattered the kerb whilst out in the snow, basically have a 6 inch cogg like mark on the wheel which has gone through several layers, down to the bare alloy. Looking to use Wicked Wheels mobile service, anyone used them, any good?
  9. Can you explain in a bit more detail what you mean?
  10. Hi looking for help. Just had the following audio upgrades done to my VRS: mObridge Bluetooth Alpine PMX-F640 4x100 AMP Infintiy Front Components The system now sounds incredible compared to the original stock setup however I have one small problem. When I switch on the headlights (Xenon) a small amount of interference is audible through the speakers. Before I take the car back to the installers I'm looking for some help/guidance as to what the problem might be. Any help greatly appreciated. Dan
  11. Interesting I found in traffic in manual mode that the gearbox is to keen to select 1st when slowing down, in Drive it appears to hold 2nd longer making pulling aware again smoother.
  12. Hi, this thread is lengthy and complex, could you detail in a few steps what you did including parts etc... Cheers Dan
  13. Seriously? The DSG box self learns? Any idea how long this takes etc...
  14. Hi Been driving my 60 plate VRS 170CR DSG for a few weeks now and I am looking for your comments on the standard drive mode. To me it seems to be geared massively towards economy gearing, changing up gears when driving normally (not overly fast) to soon. I often find myself in 4/5 with the engine taking what seems like to long to pickup and accelerate. Interesteringly I drove a Passat CC with the same engine and gearbox this week and that seemed much better to drive holding onto the gears slightly longer than the Octavia making it generally easier to drive. Only difference was the Passat had 6000 miles on the clock and mine has 600. Do your cars drive like this? To be honest I'm slightly disappointed with the DSG box at the moment.
