  1. Maybe its just me, but i think both cars look a little tacky with the "go faster" roof / bonnet stripes etc, smacks of a "boy racer" image - maybe its just Ford's way of gaining some street cred with the "yoofs" Perhaps its time for Skoda to go for some street cred, especially since the Top Gear "uncool" episode
  2. I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but i thought long life oils were primarily designed for cars on variable service intervals  As the Fabia vRS is on a fixed service interval , the correct Millers oil is the XFE - PD, at least this is the stuff that's currently filling my sump
  3. Had a half hour test drive of one last year, quick car, but the tacky interior and rock hard ride spoilt it for me.
  4. Stop it .... you're teasing me now!!!
  5. The dark side has arrived Fantastic result for Audi, diesel power has to be taken seriously in motorsport now No doubt all the petrolheads and purists will be crying into their beer Hopefully, on the back of this win, we'll see some serious performance diesels developed by Audi and VAG group - maybe one day we'll see a diesel twin turbo vRS?
  6. Nipped into halfords over the week-end & spotted a zymol cleaner wax which apparently "repairs swirl marks and minor scratches" (the wife's fabia suffers with swirl marks). Anyway, I've bought a bottle, but not had chance to try it yet - I suspect it will take several applications to see any meaningful result!
  7. Just got back from the dealers; the wife's car was booked in today to have a nice set of 15" alloys fitted, leather interior pack (with chrome plated door locks), & a stainless steel pipe end piece - that was the plan, but, sod's law strikes! Apparently, skoda uk parts have only sent the dealer 3 alloys How many three wheeler skoda's are out there ? We also had a bit of a communications breakdown with the dealer, it seems i only left my works number with them, & being on holiday, they coudnt contact me to save me a wasted journey! They had even resorted to posting me a first class letter yesterday, but, of course, I left home this morning before the post arrived! Dealer is hopeful the "missing " alloy will turn up within the next few days, so, hopefully, the job will be completed soon
  8. Chris Knott quote included 10% briskoda discount!
  9. Recently had my two year service plus aircon treatment, at my local dealer - cost (including vat) of
  10. Noticed whilst reading the piece on the new Focus ST in Test Drive mag that the ST & its main rivals (Golf Gti, Astra Vxr) all deliver max torque low down - ST - 1600rpm, Golf Gti - 1800rpm, Astra Vxr - 2400rpm (Diesels in disguise ). Is this a nod to the success of performance diesels (Golf GT PD 130 / 150, Seat Leon Cupra/FR PD 150 etc) with their low down grunt?
  11. Furby vRS replaced a ...Furby Tdi (PD100) - made the mistake of test driving the vRS when the Furby was in for a service , just had to have one
  12. Currently using bp ultimate (shell diesel extra when ultimate is not available). It is a bit pricey, but as I'm only averaging 9k per annum (The other 5k using the wife's Fabia PD 100 ), I'm prepared to pay for the privelege. IMHO i think it is probably the cleanest burning diesel fuel currently available; it leaves only the odd wisp on the tailpipe (no build up of sooty deposits. unlike the Jet diesel I briefly used :thumbdwn: ), even after some hard driving.
  13. According to this months Diesel Car, Audi are suggesting that the new Audi A8 4.2 TDI quattro is the first diesel "supercar" !! Stats are 326bhp & 480lb ft torque available from 1,600rpm to 3,500rpm Claimed 0-62mph 5.9 seconds! Downside - yours for
  14. jules tdi & I enjoyed the day, great venue, cracking weather ! (Got the red neck to prove it . It was good to meet fellow briskodians, just hope the photos I took with the disposable camera (forgot mine), turn out ok. If there's a Vw festival at harewood next year, we'll be there
  15. I've just checked out the festival link, which confirms you can pay on the day , jules tdi & I will be there. We'll make sure we visit the stand & introduce ourselves Look forward to meeting you guys on the day
  16. Auto Express presumably would have needed Skoda uk agreement to superchip? Wonder if this means a shift in their position on remaps & the like?
  17. See FAQ's via Guides tab , there is a specfic question on Fabia vRS variable servicing , this confirms that the vRS is fixed only (QG0).
  18. Hello & welcome, you've definitely made the right choice. I've done just over 12k in mine, only encountered a couple of minor problems, front passenger door rattle & fuel flap filler not closing (easily resolved thanks to this excellent forum ). Other than that, its been a pleasure to drive
  19. Yep, definitely higher fuel consumption - as an example, me & my brother both been to Brunters today (round trip of 160 odd miles, mostly motorway), his Ibiza TDI Sport PD130 veraged 55 mpg, my Furby 50.4mpg.
  20. Great entertainment watching the oldskool escorts, especially the orange mk 2 who overcooked it on the first corner after cars joined the track on exiting from the pits, on one of the final laps of the day ..... sent a couple of cones flying onto the track . Only managed to catch the last hour & half, but the quickest car onto the track from the pitlane i saw was a metallic green TVR - impressive acceleration from a standing start, complete with tyresmoke. Must get there much earlier next time.
  21. They changed the gearing with the 04 models, earlier 53 models had the same ratios as the Ibiza TDI PD130 sports , try a forum search ,as i'm pretty sure there have been previous threads on this topic which can confirm this.
  22. talking of haggling, if you're considering GAP insurance, tell them that your motor insurance policy covers full replacement value for the first year (Im assuming here that the car is new?) - I managed to get Gap back to invoice cover for
  23. Had a rattle in the front passenger side door, which appeared to have been rectified by the dealer when I took it in for servicing ......however, last couple of weeks it seems to be making a comeback!
  24. Just had the same problem today as Walkie, fixed thanks to this thread
