  1. Thanks guys - I think you may be correct especially as it first happened in very cold weather at the end of January when the car had been standing for a month unused. I have also noticed in cold weather it is a little reluctant to start. Unfortunately our dealer (now Blade Skoda in Gloucester) has been taken over by a chain and the service managers are all new and seem a little unsure of themselves and it does seem a strange story, if I had been more on the ball I would have questioned it. I think I will take the car down to our local ATS, who are excellent, and get them to check/replace the battery as I don't want to get stuck next winter. I'm thinking about handing maintenance on to a local garage as I'm now well out of warranty and paying for servicing at Skoda prices isn't a great idea if you get mis diagnosis of faults.
  2. Hi folks Been away from the board for a while as my now 5 year old Yeti with 48K miles on the clock has performed faultlessly through 3 variable services and one tyre change - excellent reliability. But now I have a little tiny fault crept in. Last winter I noticed a low frequency beep when I locked the car, this went on for some minutes and happened on a number of occasions. I asked the garage to check it out at the most recent service and apparently it is the radio making the noise as it requires a software upgrade, which takes 'a very long time to do sir so we couldn't do it as part of the service'. Has anyone else come across this little wrinkle?

    Leaky tyre

Anyone had any problems with tyres? I have had a steady slow leak in one tyre since I have had the car. Had it checked twice by Skoda, once they found a small nail, the other time they just reseated it and put a new valve on. Now suddenly it has got much worse. Back to Skoda again tomorrow. I've heard stories about leaky alloy wheels so wonder if that could be it - we'll see!
  4. OK - my car was delivered 4/6/10 so I guess that means it doesn't work - frustrating as enable BT-Audio is an option on the Setup menu and the button appears on teh Media screen, but is permanently greyed out. I'm running a 3GS iPhone with the latest software 4.2.1
  5. Hi Rockhopper and sorry if its been covered many times before, but I had no idea I could stream music from a bluetooth device - doh! So I have clicked the option in media setup on the Bolero and now have a BT button on the media screen, but its permanently greyed out. Even if I press play on the iPhone it is still greyed out; what am I missing? In all other respects the iPhone works fine through Bluetooth

    Yeti at 10K

Good - no problems any mud etc. just wipes clean; looks like it will be more durable than the Jaguar leathers that I had previously. I'm finding the seats comfortable as a 6 footer. Also on the outside the Muscovado is great for not showing up the dirt!

Been away for a while (driving the Yeti :-) )Just notched up 10K miles in just over 6 months and much enjoyed the experience. My Yeti has been removal van, cycle carrier, off road on farm tracks and fields, up and down steep hills in deep snow, a motorway speeder (only a bit). All without missing a beat. I have to say it has lived up to all expectations. Thought the ride was a bit lively to start, but I've got used to it ( and alleluja my wife now likes it too!). The 140 goes really well on fast roads, but is great to drive and park around town. All in all I have been really impressed; even the rather slick looking tyres have proved to have surprising grip in the snow and ice. The most frustrating thing is I can't listen to the cricket as no long wave! Had a quick scout round the forum and it still looks great - lots of good stuff, might go for some of those all season tyres when mine wear down.

    Cycle carriers

I have fitted my Specialized Tricross with 700c wheels and my son's road bike with 26 inch wheels

    Cycle carriers

I've not bothered with the internal cycle rack and don't like external racks. Solution is to remove a rear seat and a bike fits snugly (with its front wheel off) with front forks against the front seats (a blanket protects from any damage to either. Just lash to one of the lashing eyes to stop movement. Two bikes? just remove the other rear seat and repeat, leaving the middle seat to keep the two bikes apart. I've done it several times now and it really is very easy and no extra equipment involved.

HI SP2, I wondered what was behind your comment so I had a look at your other posts. When my Yeti arrived I switched off the running lights via Maxidot. I have used no oil as at 4K My missus who doesn't like the seats or ride has commented on how quiet it is at speed including the lack of engine and wind noise I have no rattles I have had no other problems of any sort - the whole thing seems very solid (a bit too solid on the ride) I love some of the design touches - even the shopping bag holders that stop the wine rolling about in the back Sounds like you must have got a Friday car - hope you can get stuff sorted soon.

Thanks for the thoughts. I did check the tyre pressures and they were all over the shop. They are now 2.2 all round, but unfortunately it hasn't improved the ride. What does improve the ride is having a good load at the back; its almost like the rear springs are too stiff, having some weight in the back really improves things. I suppose its all a bit of a compromise. Incidentally I forgot to add one other plus on the good side and that is how quiet the Yeti engine is. I gave a ride to a friend with a Volvo D5 estate this week and he was commenting on how quiet the 4cyl engine is compared to the Volvo 5cyl

    Yeti at 4K

Hi all, been away for a while, very busy and just discovered that my Yeti has covered 4K miles in 2 months so now seemed like a good time to give first impressions: The good Engine is great, really pulls well and loosening up nicely. Mpg averages 48-50 Gearbox which was a bit baulky is also becoming silky smooth Interior flexibility is superb, now I have the hang of the seats; had bikes, dogs and all sorts in the back an all sort of combinations Off road not really tried yet, but the odd verge and field seems fine Grip on wet roads is excellent Lights are wonderful - I like the use of fog lights when turning and the lighting when you stop/get out/lock provides great coverage for the path to the house door Radio is really good - you can actually hear it at 80 on the motorway The bad Ride frankly is not great which is disappointing given all the hype, smooths out potholes, but a bit hard and jiggly overall. Particularly poor in the back. My wife (5ft 3) finds the seats uncomfortable especially the headrest angle which is not adjustable whereas I at 6 foot have no problem
  13. Anyone else having trouble with these on the Elegance? Mine start off Ok then seem to think they should run continuously even when the rain stops! Seem to work OK if I'm not moving tho...

    Yeti Car mats

Don't recommend these guys - the mats don't fit very well - the driver's mat fouls the accelerator pedal and there are no proper clips for the lugs. Wish I'd gone for the proper Skoda ones which are about the same price. The boot mat is also 'cut to fit' which is a bit naff. I'd say go for teh Skoda ones.

    Bikes

I have read other threads on the forum about the Skoda bike carrier, but only being an intermittent cyclist I was reluctant to buy it. I am doing the London to Brighton bike ride with my son next weekend so need to get 2 full size bikes in the Yeti for transport to the start. I have just experimented with my bike and with one outer back seat dropped fully against the front seat and the front wheel off (bike not Yeti!) it just fits, I have then secured with a bungee cord to the Yeti's excellent lashing points. To get my sons in too I will need to remove both outer back seats to give a bit more space; leave the middle one as a separator (judiciously padded to protect my precious Gobi leather) and put one bike up each side. Another example of the Yeti's excellent versatility!
  16. I drove my Elegance standard spec for the first time at night yesterday. when i switch the headlights on they seem to perform a 'little dance' before levelling off at the correct height. Can anyone explain why? Also do they corner on this model or is that just the fog lights?? Sorry to be thick but I keep discovering stuff which simply wasn't mentioned in the brochure!
  17. It happened to me pulling out onto a busy A road - stalled halfway across went to go into reverse to find someone pulled up behind me at the junction Oh S*** ! Cars coming both ways so i just had to go for it and put up with the nasty stares. I think its because I'm still getting used to a manual box again, but it can catch you out. On the plus sign its not as bad as my wife's A4 Cab diesel, which stalls ever so easily.

    Yeti vs Jag

I'm totally converted to diesel now and my 140ps Yeti feels like its going to be as lively as any petrol to drive. People seem to get fixated on 0-60 times and in real life you are looking for the sudden boost of power which diesel can give you. It also gives plenty of grunt up the hills. My Yeti is very quiet engine wise - you have to listen hard to hear the slight diesel rattle. Go for a diesel - go on!
  19. Jack up the seat to its highest setting, put the seat travel to comfortably reach the pedals so that your legs are as straight as possible and put the seat back upright. Then jiggle with the steering wheel/rake/reach. This has done it for me (also a 6 footer). I have more trouble with knees and ankles and prefer the more upright position in the Yet. So far so good, but I've only done 100 miles!i

    Yeti vs Jag

Hi redandwhitepauly, The gobi interior is darker than the cream was in the Jag - I saw it described as 'putty' colour elsewhere in the forum, which about covers it. I think it will last well and not show the dirt, I do prefer light colours inside and I think this fits the bill. I don't think you will be disappointed. As regards cornering - mine has only had very limited outings so far so can't really comment.

    Yeti vs Jag

Thanks, yes we have a similar situation so I am hoping we can do the same from time to time - the Little Chef won't look at mine or contemplate a drive yet, but I'll win her round!

    Yeti vs Jag

Picked up my Yeti (Muscovado Elegance TDI 140) today and drove the 40 odd miles home, good mix of motorway plus queue then steep hills and potholes. Traded in my beloved S-type 2.7D. Overall happy with the deal I got from Robert Bamford in Gloucester. So what did I miss and what did I not miss about the Jag? Missed: Wonderful smooth ride on good surfaces Creamy power once up to speed Slick auto box Comfy seats Not missed: Horrid clunk when you reach 5mph as doors lock Low profile Jag tyres hitting potholes with sickening lurch; Yeti much more forgiving Wallowy ride on narrow bendy roads, Yeti much more direct 30 odd mpg - Yeti is well over 40 Terrible turbo lag coming out of roundabouts etc; again Yeti seems to pick up very quickly - its nice to have a manual box again Horrid low boot with large lip - back breaking with heavy suitcases. Yeti just slide em in Surprisingly Yeti seems to have more power up hills- not really opened up yet tho' Back wheel spin coming out of steep drive; Yeti 4WD wins hands down Surprisingly Yeti radio is much clearer, the proper aerial helps and the Jag system was always a bit bass heavy even with the bass turned down So overall I'm sorry to see the Jag go, but happy with my Yeti - hope the second list gets even longer as time progresses. Incidentally this forum has kept me going for the 10 odd weeks I have waited since order. Some really good stuff on towbars, mats, audio etc which I shall be following up - thanks all!
  23. Ordered 140ps muscovado elegance standard spec March 22nd, picking up next week = 10 weeks
  24. I'm a bit worried about this topic - My trusty S -type is 5 1/2 years old with 65,000 miles on the clock and has never rattled; am I trading it in for a pile of junk?? Perhaps I should have gone for that BMW X1 after all....

    Quick Delivery

Sadly not so quick now - I think I jumped the gun a bit; its still at the port and won't be ready at the dealer until next week. So more like 10 weeks from order!
