There must be a potential problems on deliveries if the Brexit deal/customs issues are not sorted. I’d hate to have an order placed that was likely to get exposed to a no deal delivery.

It helps to use the steel wool in combination with your chosen screen cleaner that way many of the particles are held. In fact as the screen is not in it's self abrasive there is not a lot that gets detached in my experience. My second yeti after a screen replacement had a strange shadow make that responded very well to the above treatment. I now use Rainex to clean and protect the screen and have found this to be about as good as it gets. It's not like the old Rainex that had to be kept out of the sun and required endless buffing to polish the protective film. Apply and remove and the protection excellent.

My Subaru does not have a spare but that now seems to be the “preferred” solution to help reducing the emissions during testing. I have had spare wheels in the past and would probably prefer one but many years ago my wife’s sister’s fiancé was killed changing a wheel at the road side. It was not his car but that of a stranded mum at the roadside who he was helping. The driver did not stop. I use the M1 quite a lot and frankly would never attempt a wheel change having seen the result of cars and lorries plowing into stationary cars on the hard shoulder.

Very similar experience when I test drove/ordered the XV 2018, the dealer kept me in the picture every step of the way, delivery from order about 7 weeks. I'm sure if you enjoy the Outback, the XV 2018 is a joy to drive. Has you Outback got the Eyesight technology?

I haven’t changed the coolant in any of the cars I’ve owned, and frankly never had a need to top it up.

The first Yeti I had suffered from various rattles that took a number of visits to the dealer to sort.

Just for a comparison this is the image from my Subaru, the orange lins being the direction the car will travel at any given steering lock. The image is 140 degree wide.

Most 100 miles sections have at least a couple of 50 mile road works and during rush hour the traffic build up can be monumental leading to the usual compression at junctions. With my ACC, adaptive cruise control, on I just let it take car of the acceleration and braking. The system I now enjoy can “see” about 130 metres ahead and is able to resolve what is in front of the car, van, car, lorry etc.. and will gracefully brake the car to a standstill, hold the car on the brakes and then signal the car ahead has moved, a slight touch of the accelerator and the ACC will control the acceleration to set speed. I’m able to select the rate of acceleration In the settings and control the gap to the cars in front on the move. Ive found that this in comparison to a clutch or auto, braking and accelerating manually a pain in the BTM. I can concentrate on what’s going on around me and let the technology take the strain. I’m sure others may not be happy to use the cars ability in this way but I’ve found it invaluable.

I think that the move towards automatics is gaining momentum in part due to the ability of the designers to programme the car to maximise the fuel consumption under all conditions. Good adaptive cruise control gives great comfort and efficient driving, just try driving a 100miles of so on the M1 during rush hour. The Subaru XV 2018 I’ve just purchased is only available with an automatic and only with petrol engines.

Ive used the memory foam wedge in the past but as you’ve indicated it was tricky to find one that would fit the seat and do the job.

I spoke to someone recently who’d had the fix on his 1.6 TDi and experienced similar problems eventually leading to the EGR being replaced. I think he said the bill would have been £900! Ouch!

You might consider a seat wedge, this lifts the hips and gives a better posture. Ideally, but difficult to achieve, the hips joint should be higher than the knee joint. I’ve struggled with fixed car seats and my last two cars I’ve opted for an electronic version giving a much wider range of adjustment (not and option for you I know). hope you get a better driving position sorted soon it makes a long journey so miserable.

Some time ago there were some news items suggesting that with the new WLTP emissions rules coming into play that there would be more “package options” rather than individual options. This would be because each option may well need it’s own emissions test? i certainly found costing a car nowadays very complex with options being selected and then being offered required additions or deletions to get what I wanted. When I opted for the Subaru XV 2018 there were four car option choices, two based on engine size and two on trim. There were items that were dealer fitted but not factory, simple. Effectively each option had the assist driver technology as standard so no real compromise. it seems to me that as the brand levels rise the options are purely used to hike the price they can then advertise a low base price which has no relationship to what you might have to pay in reality, switch selling at its best.

It’s much more difficult for me to fit a Dashcam to my new car, Subaru XV 2018, A’s the middle section of the screen has to be left clear. The reason being that the diver assist systems use a stereo pair of HD cameras. I can not get a feed from these. However, reading the small print says that in the event of a crash the system does record the event prior and after, must be a loop, and can on the application of a court order be released. So I assume that if some garage tech pranged the car the recording could be used. interestingly, there was a BBC news item today saying that the police are reducing highway patrol cars etc., and will be very happy to take good quality Dashcam footage as evidence.

+1, the Subaru XV has the same feature, plus cornering headlights, which are both excellent additions.

Traditionally Skoda close the factories about this time to refurb, change product lines etc. To say they are unaware that this could happen beggars belief.

I have 4 Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres that came off my last Yeti when I changed to CrossClimates, they have done 2k ish, you’d have to collect but I’d be happy for you to have them, FOC.

Interesting. I had three Yeti and no issues with the first two. The third, at the 18K service, looked similar to yours. I had a strong suspicion that there was a change in the materials I seem to remember on a number of occasions that the brakes sort of such on and a reversed off my drive , then suddenly released. I took little notice at the time but I did wonder that this might have precipitated the issue problem I had and you now describe.

My old Skoda dealer has clearly indicated to me, in the past, that there were allocations. When I talked to him before buying my Subaru XV he again mentioned that they had ordered their allocation of stock cars and had run out of the current allocation of customer orders for the current period.

I have long believed that not all dealers are created equal, meaning that there is a pecking order within the dealership network with some getting a better allocation of cars both for stock and to order.
