  1. Giving this a bump because I'd really like to know who's supplying them now...
  2. I never thought it would run this long! Glad it has though.
  3. I've done both over the years. I.e. new car and replace after two to three years and buy older and run into the ground. Even allowing for the much higher service costs the latter has always proved to be cheaper by a country mile. Best recent example. Vauxhall Astra bought for £1150 for my son. Spent perhaps £2000 in service and repairs over three years and sold for £620. Total capital depreciation including repairs and service considerably less than £1000 a year. This is one reason I still haven't bought a Yeti.
  4. Nobody ordered one from them recently then I guess?
  5. Several brand new ones (3 or 4)at Azur Skoda in Chichester. Wonder if they are local orders?
  6. Interesting! I didn't get an email, I was just idly looking around again. Would be good to know if it is Marlborough again or who?
  7. After a gap with no Yetis available I noticed that Drive the Deal is listing Yetis at rather good discounts. Does anyone have any idea which dealer they are using this time?
  8. I hate all things "PC" but I still have a problem with your username. If you don't want to become a "Freedom Member" then just re-register under a different name and tell everybody who you are. SBL just has too many connotations. Why upset so much of Middle England when you obviously have a lot to contribute? If you are gay, fine. If you are straight, fine. No need to advertise either orientation on a motoring website. If it is just a joke then fine, but it's run its course.
  9. Yes +1 but the moon alloys are better still.
  10. Are you on winter or all season tyres? In Germany in the snow I've noticed a smell of burning rubber when I've been around cars with winters just after they have been driven.
  11. Spotted a very pretty red one in Chichester around 12:30 today. Still one of the few cars that looks if anything better on the move than stationary.
  12. The one I saw was in Bognor and the panel joins looked more like a kit car. A very odd thing indeed.
  13. Not bad, but no cigar! Saw my first "puke" on the road today. Looked curiously disjointed, almost as if bits of it were not really connected to each other...
  14. + 5 I'm surprised the mods allowed it in the first place.
  15. I resisted social networking for a very long time. However, I was eventually persuaded to join Facebook as a means of publicising a not-for-profit film festival. As a result, I've now reconnected with a lot of old work colleagues and friends I haven't seen for years. A fair few of these connections have led to meetings in the flesh. I don't have many friends locally, and with a glass of wine at £5.25 in the local pub, I'm not likely to spend much time there. Anyway, forums such as this are a form of social networking and a very valuable one. As for Twitter, I really don't get the point, but then I don't use a mobile phone very often.
  16. Am I the only one who has the opposite reaction? I've never owned either a VW or a Skoda - yet although I have had a lot of hands-on experience with VWs. However, I have a far more negative view of VW than Skoda. This is not a recent thing either. Over the past 30 years several of my friends have owned VWs and it is their experiences and mine when I've visited dealers that have put me off. This is in marked contrast to visits to Skoda dealers. For me, a VW badge means overpriced, unreliable and rather boring with dealers who fit into the "sales repulsion unit" category. A Skoda badge means a long and honourable heritage going back, I believe, considerably before VW. It also means reliability and a pleasant quirkyness with some of the best dealers this side of Honda. No contest!
  17. I see the odd silver one either in Tesco's car park in Shripney or in the Gunwharf Quays car park in Portsmouth. For some reason I never see one in motion.
  18. Since 1971, some concurrent: Triumph Herald Convertible - Wreck, didn't drive it more than five miles. Morris Minor Convertible - Ditto Wolsey 1500 - more than OK Ford Anglia 105e - great car! Jaguar 2.4 MkII - rust bucket MG Midget - nice but basic MGBGT - horrible truck! Sunbeam Alpine MkV - Great car! Renault 6 - vile lime green horror! Renault 12 - remarkably good. Sunbeam Alpine MkV - Another one! Fiat X-19 - Fab! Renault 12 Auto - first Auto! Good once the carb was sorted. Fiat X-19 - Another one - even better until the cambelt went. Citroen BX Daimler XJ6 3.4 Auto Citroen BX Auto Citroen BX Auto - Another one Citroen XM Auto Citroen XM Auto - Another one Mercedes 300 TE Auto Toyota Yaris Auto Nissan Patrol Auto Honda Jazz Auto Toyota Landcruiser Amazon Auto Honda Jazz Sport Auto Honda CRV Auto Kia Sorento Auto Skoda Yeti 1.4TSi 4X4 DSG when they make one! Skoda Fabia VRS 1.4TSi - maybe... Far too many already, but up for a few more yet!
  19. Wonderful thread! These hooks join the other supremely useless items such as "beverage holders". A US import and as much use, at least for the driver, as a chocolate teapot since it is illegal to drink while driving. (Or so several people have found out to their cost when stoppend by the constabulary.)
  20. That's an insane price for a gearbox! Almost half the price of the car, somebody is taking the p*sh!
  21. Muscovado one in Gunwharf Quays (Portsmouth) car park yesterday.
  22. I think you will find this has nothing to do with relative positioning since ALL VAG group prices including VW have increased... What this is is the beginnings of 70's style inflation. Just check the price of petrol!
  23. Great post! Thank you for sharing. Will be very interested to hear what you think post remap.

    Yeti-like

Glad you said that! I've mistaken a Soul for a Yeti from a distance on more than one occasion.
  25. Stopped for lunch at Bryce's splendid seafood pub in Ockley, Surrey today. When we emerged there was red 1.8 Tsi 10 plate parked next to us. SWMBO, who usually takes no notice of cars at all is smitten and now wants a red 1.2Tsi DSG. Result! I think, although it's going to cost me...
