  1. Thanks for setting this up OP, useful thread for my particular situation! As mentioned elsewhere, I'm a faithful Skoda follower with an 09 Octavia (needing replacement soon), and an 09 S-Max (more urgently needing replacement soon). Way back when, I'd originally thought the Octavia Estate would be our main 'big family' car, but the arrival of number 3 transferred that to runabout status and we need to get an S-Max shortly after. I'd love Skoda to release something with a proper 3-across situation and had hoped the Kodiaq would be it, but apparently not. The Octavias are noticeably on the thin side, so no chance of three across if using (even non-Isofix) car seats, and the new Superbs, perhaps despite appearances, aren't that much better - a quick check on the net confirms the following: Octavia - 1816mm Superb - 1864mm Kodiaq - 1882mm S-Max - 1916mm I'd looked at other models - would have loved a Skoda version of the Sharan/Alhambra - but I think based on the above I'll be picking up one of the new model S-Max's in the near future.
  2. ...needless to day, I'm mighty annoyed Skoda couldn't have done something with the Albambra/Sharan platform...would have been the preference :(
  3. Yes, can't say I've had any problems with the one I've had for about 4/5 years, and despite the appearance it doesn't feel particularly bulky when driving around in. Would definately recommend getting the Titanium trim as a minimum to pick up the creature comforts though. The main issue with the new models is the apparent information overload on the new displays, which are across the ford range..though I'm one of these people who loves the idea of being surrounding with more displays than on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, so I don't necessarily take that as a negative!
  4. This is my big issue - currently need three car seats through the back. Skoda seem to have notoriously narrow cars, despite the general comments about space. We're due to sell our current S-Max and I've been hanging on to the chance of a Kodiaq covering my needs, but not quite sure if it'll squeeze three car seats in. One plus is that they're out of the isofix versions, so their seats are a bit narrower and a more flexible fit. Other half is rather determined to get one of the newer S-Maxs, so may have to keep my powder dry and eventually trade in our old Octavia for a new Yeti, which should be a nice minature version of the Kodiaq in a year or so.
  5. I've been waiting for this for the past couple of years now! - wish they'd hurry up as I need to replace an S-Max and waswaiting for Skoda's 7-seater to appear! As mentioned above, width is a key issue as normally need to get three in the back - and width seems to be Skoda's Achilles heel as their vehicles to date always seem to be narrower than equivalent cars from other manufacturers. I thought the new Superb would buck the trend but even that's not as wide as I'd been expecting.
  6. Any idea how the SIII compares with the previous model in terms of width? The previous one had lots of legroom, but as a parent with 3 young kids it wasn’t worth me getting one as we couldn’t squeeze 3 car seats together across the rear seat…ended up with an S-Max as well as a Mk2 Octy.
  7. I’m keeping a close eye on the new Snowman, or whatever they end up calling it. Very happy Skoda Octy Mk 2 owner, and with three kids we’ve also got a Ford Smax. Would have preferred to get a skoda instead of the Ford – shame they’re not allowed to provide the skoda version of the Sharan/Alhambra really! They provide lots of interior space, but my main gripe with Skodas is the lack of width. Even the Superbs, whilst being very long, are extremely narrow cars. I think there’s a difference of just 40mm or so between it and the Octavia. You can have all the legroom in the word, but there’s no chance of getting 3 car seats in the rear of either one!
  8. FYI, Scout details on the Skoda UK online Octavia brochure now Currently have a mk2 Octy Estate (Elegance) and looks to replace soon - always fancied the Scout, but don't know whether I can stratech to it against a nearly new replacement Elegance
  9. I’ve had an Octavia Elegance estate for about a year now and I’ve very happy with it. We ended up going for a nearly new model – as such, it has the older PD diesel engine rather than the newer common rail. I would have preferred the (more efficient and quieter) latter, but I’ve had a few diesels and the PD engine is fine – may be a bit noisier but nothing annoying or anything. The elegance has some great standard kit, but there are three areas where Skoda seem to had missed a trick and should have put them in as standard: 1) Steering wheel mounted stereo controls 2) Bluetooth stereo capability 3) Electronically folding wing mirrors Given that the Elegance is one of the premium trim levels I think the above really should be standard, but given the other kit and the price I can’t complain too much! Also, our (very good) Skoda dealer in Reading was selling a batch or nearly new Elegances which had the folding mirrors as standard anyway
  10. Join the club - I've been trying to find some more info on any upcoming larger Skoda models for a while but without success. I assume a larger Yeti could potentially be based on the VW Touareg?? Now there's a car that I'd be interested to see! :p
  11. I looked into this. The problem is that we’ll need a car that can take three carseats (and leave space for two adults, including the driver). I had initially hoped the Superb might be significantly wider than the Octy, so you could fit three abreast in the back seat. Sadly, there’s not that much difference. The grand yeti would be AWESOME, but I also like the hashed up MPV piccie too. We’ll have to wait – the model’s will probably be out by the time my finances allow another car purchase :(
  12. Apologies in advance for posting here – I know it’s not an octy question (although I do have one, if that gives me special dispensation! ) For some reason I was unable to post in the techie forum, so I’m hoping mods can move to where this is most appropriate :wonder: . Short question – I was wondering if anyone knows if Skoda are going to come out with their ‘version’ of the VAG people carrier – i.e. something with the same base as the VW Sharon and the Seat Alhambra??? We recently got an octy estate, but an impending new arrival means we’re now looking into people carriers (though it won’t be for another year or so, finances allowing). I like the look of the facelifted new Seat people carrier, but am tending towards the Ford S-Max, which just seems a bit more sporty and of course there are loads on the second hand market. Just seems like Skoda are missing a trick on this one(?)
  13. Hi folks, We recently bought a (nearly) new Octy Estate a few months back, and it’s been great to be able to take our two kids away whilst still having space in the cavernous boot for our own stuff (as well as the relief of being able to fit the pram in without having to dismantle it first ) However, no sooner have we become settled with that, than my wife’s pregnant again! I have to say we’ve never really considered having more than 2 before, but we’re getting our heads around it (slowly!). The main difficulty seems to be in the small impracticalities that we previously took for granted – a large part of that being transport!!! We currently get 2 isofix seats in the back without a problem, but a third gives us a major headache if we want to go anywhere as a family. I was wondering if anyone’s found a solution, other than buying a new car?! My OH tells me that a friend has some Swedish invention that fits across the rear seats and (somehow) is able to fit three in the back – I assume from somehow staggering the seats – but I can’t find anything on it over the internet. Another thought was a Yeti (I’ve been meaning to get one when I replace my Leon in a year or so but didn’t think I’ve have this consideration!). I notice its 30cm wider than an Octavia and didn’t know if this would allow us to squeeze three childseats in the back (or maybe give enough space in the middle for my wife???) Beyond this, I assume my only recourse is to buy a bloody great wagon like an S-Max (my preference if I have to go down this route), Honda F-CV etc etc?? Now I’m in this position I’m surprised it’s not considered more in normal sized cars – couldn’t they stick some isofix fittings in the boot of estates or something??
  14. Can't help I'm afraid, but would say I was very surprised how fragile this handle was when I first got our new Octavia a few months back :( I was having a play around with everything, pulled the lever under the steering wheel and the whole thing came away in my hand! After a bit of fiddling around i worked our which way it fitted back on, but was v. disappointed with the cheap plastic material they used for it.
  15. Not wanting to butt in on the OP, but I’ve got the same vehicle – a facelifted Elegance from Sept 09. I thought I’d read that this issue had been resolved for more recent vehicles – am I correct or do I have need to worry?? :wonder:
