  1. Thanks for all the replies! I think I paid like £18 for it. Glad I got the right one!
  2. So I thought I better buy some for oil for top ups. I went into a Halfords and I was sure the oil had to meet VW505.01. Looking on the back of the bottles they had on the shelf I found Castrol Edge FST Turbo Diesel 5W-40 Fully Synthetic. It says it meets VW505.01 but when I was at the desk they said I needed a different one but on the back of that bottle it had VW502 something. The guy said I should go on what my manual said so I bought the VW505.01 one.. Is this going to be ok to put into a PD engine? I have spent a lot recently on my car, so I can't afford to **** this up
  3. Hi All, I've noticed a problem with my Fabia vRS that only happens when it has been raining for a while and that is the green backlit on the dash (clock and odometer) starts flickering brighter/dimmer. The same thing happens with the front lights. It never happens in the dry only in the wet. The garage looked at it when the gearbox was being repaired but before I realised it was an "In the Wet" issue and when they had the car, they couldn't find any error codes but the weather was bone dry on the week they had it. Any ideas what they should be looking for? Is it likely to be expensive to fix? I've just spent a few hundred quid on having the gearbox sorted out and another big bill would be the last thing I need :( If I ignore it for a while, how likely is it to cause a major running issue? Cheers for any advice in advance!
  4. Hi All! I have a bit of a dilemma! Recently my car went in to have a wheel bearing replaced and whilst it was in I asked them to look at the gearbox because I am having trouble going from 6th back to 5th, it is like it is blocked. The garage have looked at it and said the adjustment they have done has not cured the problem and so it really needs a gearbox strip to find out what is going on with potentially a new gearbox required (worst case scenario). At the time I was also getting a weird electrical issue so I was all for just "give it back to me" I'm going to p'ex it. Over the weekend I went to look at some cars I could afford but the experience was so dire that I have decided I want to keep the vRS now as I can't afford anything that will drive nearly as well and dealing with used car salesman was just a terrible experience. Has anyone experienced this 6th to 5th issue before? what did it end up being and how much did it cost? Also the electrical issue was like the green backlit around the mileage was flickering and also the headlights dimming and brightening. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'm doing the right thing here! I've driven my car for 9 years (2005 year) (90000 miles) and I still love driving her every day. Thanks in anticipation!
  5. I've owned my Fabia vRS mk 1 from new since 2005. As the alloys were getting very tatty I decided to have them refurb by a local specialist. I decided on Anthracite colour and when it was finished it looked great with the Black Magic and I thought what an excellent choice. At the same time I got them to fit 2 new Hankook Evos on the front. I took her home, gave her a really good clean inside and out and all was well. I first noticed a problem when I took her on the motorway and above 60 I started to get a noticeable shake in the steering wheel. It felt just like once before when I had new tyres and one of the weights came off. I thought not an issue I took it back to the specialist and they rebalanced it, at this point the guy doing the balancing asked me where I got the new fronts from? I said you sourced them for me, he said "oh just that one of them looks like its been stored wrong and has a kink in it". Anyway he said it should be ok now and so I took her away only to find out it wasn't much better. This week I took it back for the third time and this time they restripped the tyre and rebalanced again after also doing something to the alloy to make it sit better. He said the wheel needed less weights now cos it was running very accurately. Anyway I took it back and for the first few hours it did seeem a lot better so I let them know and thought it was finally ok. Anyway now (a day later) the wobble seems to be back! I took it to a main dealer to see if they would test drive it and the engineer from the dealer says it seems ok to him but I know its not driving like it was...... Anyone got any ideas? is it worth trying a different tyre place to take a look ? I'm not sure what to do with it, at the moment I just don't want to drive it as the pulsing/wobbling in the wheel is really cheesing me off. Is it worth switching the rears to the front to see if its something to do with the new tyres? Could the alloys have become damaged by the powder coating process? Cheers
  6. Today whilst driving it further for the first time I noticed a burning smell in the cabin. When I got to my destination I realised it seems to be coming from underneath the car. It also did the same on the way home. I phoned the garage and they said it was normal and will be from the fluid they put on the exhaust to stop it rusting, is that true? or am I being told a load of baloney? Also the handbrake now seems incredibly loose (it wasn't like that before either...... ) I'm having the service done next week by the main dealer I should have gone to in the first place and have asked them to look at this exhaust.
  7. Hi Guys! I own a 2005 Skida Fabia vRS which I have had since new and recently the backbox got picked up on MOT as being fairly knackered which I already knew because it looked in a right mess. Stupidly I decided to go with a new independent garage for the fitment as the Skoda main dealer wanted £220 and instead of going for a Skoda OEM exhaust I went with a non oem one for £145. Why I didn't think about this I don't know but I got the car back today and it just looks really crap.......now I'm not sure if it's made worse by the fact it sits a little more away from the rear bumper but it just doesn't look the part at all. A couple of questions as I don't really know much about exhausts (which is probably why I'm in this pickle  ) Is there much adjustment in the end position of the pipes? if that's still doesn't make it look right and I go and get a different garage to fit an OEM one or something performance based. What can I do with the old one as I can't see anyone wanting it for their vRS. Would it fit an ordinary Fabia? Worth much as scrap metal? I could smack myself one for not thinking straight but it's a bit late for that now. I know I am a numpty before anyone says.......
  8. I had my 2005 Fabia vRS serviced in April by a main dealer and they did a lot of work and it came in just under £1000. In the past couple of weeks I saw what I thought was condensation from the air con but then I found out my coolant was very low and it got topped up but its losing about 0.5 cm a day I reckon. The temp stays in the middle and the car seems to drive ok. The liquid seems to be near the front passenger wheel area. I took a couple of pics tonight and the undertray looks wet or something..... Should the garage that did the service had spotted this if it was there before they serviced it? if it wasn't could they have done something accidently in the service to cause it? Seems strange to me it wasn't like this before they did the service. Is it likely to be an expensive job? I've just shelled out £980 plus £370 on new tyres and 6 months tax so Im getting on for nearly £1500 in 2 months...... Thanks!! http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc230/Fabioso2/P1000672s.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc230/Fabioso2/P1000668s.jpg
  9. Guys, At the weekend some muppet from "National Windscreens" fitted my Fabia vRS with a new windscreen. He seemed to have problems doing it as it took ages! Today its raining for the first time since the work and the drivers wiper seems to be overshooting the edge of the screen a fraction. Has anyone got a close up of their windscreen wiper config so I can compare wiper setup? I get the feeling something is not right with the set up as it doesn't look familiar to me and after staring at it for the last 5 years it should look familiar ) Which makes me think the muppet has done something stupid............
  10. Threads dont look too bad, I've got a new set of bolts coming from the stealer.......had to order them in :orb_sneak: I'll get my mate to look at it as I don;t have a tap myself. Cheers Guys
  11. Oh dear, I thought it would be relatively easy to remove my front seat as there was a lot of mess alongside the seat and its only 4 bolts. When I went to get the socket for the bolt I was told by the dealer it was a 10 mm TORX and I then got the wrong socket albeit it did fit. Anyway eventually I worked out I needed the 10 mm spline so I got that and I took out the seat and all was fine and dandy. Trouble is when I came to fit the seat back in everything was ok until I went to do the second of the front bolts. It will only screw down about half way. I tested it by removing the seat (as I thought may be it was a little out of align) but still the bolt will only go half down, I tried the opposite bolt to see if it was just the bolt but that does the same thing. So it looks like the thread in the floor is the problem. Errrr I can fit 3 of the 4 bolts but what can I do about the fourth ? I wish now I hadn't bothered.............
  12. My car went into the main dealer for this very fix under warranty. THey fixed it in under 20 minutes, so it sounds like its not the process the Haynes manual states. At last I have the lower pos working again!!!
  13. Thanks for all the advice guys. Although not juddering at all, it seems likely the clutch was starting to slip a bit. However switched back to standard and I can't find anything wrong with it at all. For now its staying standard until I decide whether to go for a new racing clutch or a new racing car
  14. Hi guys, I have a Fabia vRS which I have had since new. I bought a one-click on one of the group buys and have probably had it on the Fabia since about 7000 miles. Currently now on 21000 and a couple of weeks back I noticed in 5th that as I "make some progress" the rev counter needle would suddenly rev high, then settle and power would resume back into the wheels. It only happaned in 5/6th and it was very momentary. Is that the sign the clutch is slipping and on its way out ? I have currently switched the car back to standard and no sign of any problems at all, in any gear. What do you guys reckon ? is it ok to carry on in standard mode for a while ? will it start to slip as standard ? Not being very mechanical, am I at risk of buggering anything up continuing to drive it without changing it ? I am a little surprised because I have only booted it when rolling and even then that was only very infrequently. The car had its 2nd service and all the problems started after that, could that be a factor ? I noticed the mpg was running down about 10% less economic but put that down to the 2 new front tyres.
  15. I am glad I just got into the group buy, the one-click device is great. The power increase is def noticeable I tend to use the extra power on the motorway when pressing on. The way the car picks up in 6th is astonishing! Fantastic!
