  1. Is there a part number for a kit to repair the rear washer pipe that goes through the wiper motor? I did my Fabia with such a kit a couple of years ago which I got from the dealers (they were the cheapest!!). Mine started leaking out of the bottom of the motor where the washer pipe attaches, so poss the seal/o ring/pipe has deteriorate inside. Cheers for any help Andy
  2. Hi all, Having looked around on the site to try and get rid once and for all of the annoying tinny rattle at lower speeds, I spent a long time locating it. I mananged to locate a very slightly worn drop link on the passenger side which is getting replaced once they arrive, but that was the only thing that I found on the whole front end. Moreso though there was knocking coming from the steering box where it converts from circular motion to lateral motion. This quietened once the car started up but was still there. Now would this allow the wheels to move slightly (a la old Landrovers) without moving the steering wheel allowing the tinny rattle to be heard? Can you adjust the steering box to eleviate this or do you have to replace the rack. Bearing in mind that the car passed its MOT and had its service at a Skoda main dealer 3 weeks ago and they didn't pick anything up at all???!!!! Cheers for any ideas Andy
  3. Ref tyre pressures for winter tyres, when I bought my tyres in Germany the garage (Hammerling) placed the correct TP as +0.2 bar on top of normal TPs. Thats what I have done for years on mine with no dramas. Hope this helps.
  4. Changed my thermostat and housing complete yesterday (Thanks Jorily), went for a long run today and the car didn't misbehave at all rocketing along and managed better mpg (45 rather than 40)than before i changed it. Before it was jerky when pulling away and taking up drive, now smooth as a babies bum, a joy to drive again!! All from a 1.4 mpi!!!!!! Even sorted out leak from rear washer jet as well Cheers Andy
  5. Cheers will check them out
  6. Went to use my rear washer the yesterday in all the rain we had (normally theres enough water around to do the cleaning!!!) and heard a wooshing sound, no water, tried again thinking the water had evaporated in the line, still no water but more wooshing!!!! Got to work and opened the boot lid to find water leaking out from behind the rear panel, pulled that off and worked the washer again and found water was coming from inside the motor. Now i know the washer jet goes through the middle, and funny old thing the washer tube in the middle of the motor has rusted out. Can you get repair kits for these pipes as the motor works fine and is still like new, so seems a shame to spend £90 on a new motor if it still works!!! :'( Any ideas?
  7. I wish I could get the mpg you lot are saying....there again I only have a 1.4 mpi 8v but it does get me about 390 to the tank. I do play fuel gauge lottery and have on several occasion had 0 on left in the tank with still 15-20 miles left to go on my 60 mile a day round trip commute (petrol is 4p cheaper next to work ).

  9. I had to have a new rear wiper on my Octy a couple of weeks ago when my car was in for service, as one of the clips had gone missing from the end of the blade. Only cost a fiver for complete blade from the main dealer (Turners of Erlestoke) who were carrying out the service.
  10. Having lived in Germany where it is law to have winter tyres, if you have an accident and the police prove that the accident could've been avoided with either car having winter tyres fitted then if you are the person that hasn't got winter tyres then you will get an on the spot fine of 150 euros and more often the blame for the accident will be put on you even if the other person hit your car!!! I had a set of Bridgestones on my old Mk2 Golf GTi 16v. I had no problems in getting around last winter in germany where the snow was alot worse and deeper than here, and when driving along in water logged or damp roads it certain gives more stability. I actually bought a set ready to go onto my Octy over here for this winter (wife hates the slippery conditions, so if it gives her a little more confidence then i am happy), and I am looking for a set to go onto my Furby 1400. They do tend to last a good few years as well, as long as you change them back to "normal tyres when the weather gets better (generally above 7-10 degrees c), otherwise the will wear out within a couple of thousand miles... I will swear by winter tyres and think we should as a nation follow the germans... that way we wouldn't end up looking like a bunch of muppets and the country closing down when there is a sniff of snow!!! But thats my opinion......anyone else want to comment?
  11. I manage to get about 52 -55 on the motorway, even managed 59.4 on a recent run to North Wales from Salisbury, ok the M6 was only doing 60mph from Brum to Nantwich!!! but i still do about 80 on cruise control. Round town i'll get 45 - 50. Just wish my Fabia did the same mpg as thats my commuter car!!
  12. Cheers, will try and check that out. Will have to have fun trying to get the rear panel unclipped....joy!!! Many thanks.
  13. Can anyone help? My rear wiper on my Fabia has started having a mind of its own......when on intermitent wipe, it only wipes a quarter of the rear window at a time, then halt then move another 1/4, halt.......you get the picture. So it will take about 10 secs to do one complete wipe. Something simple like the relay going up the swanny would be a nice answer, but knowing my luck not a chance!!!!! Any ideas? Cheers
  14. Mines first registered 6th Sept 04 from Gloucester.
  15. You are not alone there...... I went in to see the storeman a while back to get a set of front mudflaps and a rear badge for my 2000 furby (only a 1.4 mpi comfort, so nothing complicated!!!), and at everything i asked for his answer was... can i have the chassis number of the car? what for a badge and a set of mudflaps!!! ******. its not as though he actually knew what he was doing.... they must have matching fleeces out back for which ever marque they are dishing out parts for. Deffo not going there again.
