2nd service, shockers problem
Hillhound replied to United 11's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
I have a 2010 Estate, 46,000 miles. It is used for towing a caravan quite a bit and when doing so is well laden (4 passengers, bikes on the roof, boot full etc). Just before service in October I was cleaning it and I noticed that the bump stops appeared rotted. They look like ribbed foam rubber tubes which sit over the piston strut of the rear shocks. might be worth a look. Not difficult or expensive to fix. -
Same problem about February (Superb Estate 170 DSG Elegance). Went through all the battery tests at local dealer. They said battery checked out ok, but when I left car with them for 2 days it had to be jump started when I went to collect it. Went to Halfords to get a Bosch battery and the tech. there tested my battery and found it to be at 52% capacity despite me having just driven there from dealers (20 miles, 30 min). Took new bosch battery back to the dealers, showed them the reading from Halfords and got them to fit the new battery for me. They couldnt pay for the battery as it was a non Skoda item, but replaced dsg oil a couple of months later free of charge instead. New battery was without a doubt the answer! My Superb starts better and easier than it has ever did. Convinced that the standard battery is just not up to the job and doesn't last! Battery I fitted was Bosch S5 096. Exactly same size. Mine came from Halfords but I believe can be got cheaper elsewhere.

Advice please, towing a caravan with Superb 4x4
Hillhound replied to Blackray's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
2010 Superb Estate 170 Elegance DSG. In the past 3 years I have towed a 1400kg caravan in the region of 4000 miles with this car. It has been all over the British Isles and Northern France. It has performed faultlessly in this time and has been a joy to tow with. Having towed with a wide range of vehicles I am a firm believer that in addition to the weight of the tow car, its lenght (wheelbase actually) is nearly as important. A large long car will tow more smoothly than a short 4wd. I think this is why the Superb is so good. Now mine is only a front wheel drive, so I would expect the 4x4 to be better again, but for me the combination of DSG and 170bhp is more important. When there is a 170 4x4 DSG I will have a long hard look at my piggy bank. Which ever model you go for I think you will find it an excellent tow car and will be impressed with its stability and smoothness. ps Mine is usually 4 up with a boot full of awning and associated caravan stuff, and a couple of bikes on the roof. -
Original in my 170 tdi has been poor for a long time. Replaced it two weeks ago with a Bosch s5 from Halfords as Skoda dealer kept saying battery was ok and wouldnt replace under warranty. Halfords tester showed battery at 53% capacity and unservicable. The new battery has made all the difference, even on very cold starts. Worth every penny! (Car is just under 3 years old)

Check volume setting as Columbus has separate volume for each mode ie Nav, Radio/Media, Traffic, Phone etc. Set up the Nav and while it should be 'talking' turn the volume up. Along with the volume bar it should say Nav.

Protective film for the Skoda badge?
Hillhound replied to JuggernautSE's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Faulty badges, mine were replaced under warranty. I believe it is a very common fault -
Just put an S5 096 battery in my Superb. Dealer fitted it, but looks like cover fitted perfectly. If there is a gap at the bottom I havn't noticed.

OK, It's November 2012 and time for an update. Car serviced in August. Booking in was quick and easy, everything done as needed and a phone call to let me know it was ready even though I had to wait until after work to collect it. Perfect. Last week the Sat Nav stopped working. Checked on here and one of the possibilities was a disconnected aerial lead. Took the head unit out to check and while I was doing so had to move the car. Started it with the passenger airbag warning light disconnected and created a fault bringing the airbag light on all the time :-( . Friday morning into Mulholland's with no booking. Left the car while I was at work and got a call mid morning to say car was ready with airbag light sorted, new aerial ordered and a booking for Wednesday to have it fitted. I have just got the car back with the Sat Nav working, car washed and a new badge fitted on the front as it was corroded. I was aware of the badge myself but had never mentioned it. Staff were very friendly as always. This is the sort of service we all look for so I hope it continues for a long long time!!!!!! -

I have had it trigger 3 times in 2 years in my Superb Estate. Twice for slow punctures because of nails and once when I had attached a heavily laden caravan. Found it to be reliable!

Tyre Pressure Monitor setting
Hillhound replied to OhPinchy's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Mine went off within days of getting my Superb. "Oh great another electrical thing to go wrong" Until I found a big nail in my tyre! It has gone off twice more in 18 months, once for another nail and once when towing a caravan which was admittedly front heavy and putting a bit of weight on back of car. I think it is a great system, I could just do without the nails! -

Ashmount Only just noticed that you are from NI as well! As you say, lots of Skodas in public service here (are they going to get their pension cut!). And of course Value Cabs have a huge fleet of them. Although I havn't had a lot of experience with them, I have found Mulhollands in Randalstown good to deal with both for my initial purchase and subsequent warranty/service/parts. Have recently seen a few Superb Estates as Police cars, see below from BBC News http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/57117000/jpg/_57117977_accident.jpg
