Octavia - Noisy Aircon (Droning) - Warranty claim?
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Worse than ever now, really annoying noise. I think it is bearings on compressor or similar - regas didn't really help in the end, but was needed (low levels) -
Octavia - Noisy Aircon (Droning) - Warranty claim?
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Just an update for anyone that may be interested: Had the aircon regassed - 275 grams out, 550 put back in. (Apparently the required amount) System was pressure tested all ok, but it's a 2012 plate and therefore due a regas now anyway. (Even though it was still outputting very cold air.) As for the noise - I heard it again as soon as I used it for the first time, but it seemed to disappear about 5-10 seconds later and I've not yet heard it since. I am due to be using the car every day next week, and so this will be the proper test. Overall I'm happy so far though - saved me going to Skoda and being charged £80 for the privilege to be told it needed regassing. -
Octavia - Noisy Aircon (Droning) - Warranty claim?
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks Adamal, I checked VCDS for errors again tonight - nothing logged. I wasn't too sure which measuring blocks you refer to, but I opened 08-Auto HVAC and checked block 78 (Refrigerant pressure-MUX Kaeltemitteldruck): Upon starting the car the pressure increased quickly to about 12 bar. With aircon switched on, it did vary at times, but lowest value I think was about 7.4 bar. Still felt plenty cool enough, but I suppose this isn't always a good indication. I'll see what the aircon folks say on Saturday - and if they regas it fingers crossed it fixes the problems! -
Octavia - Noisy Aircon (Droning) - Warranty claim?
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Cheers. I've booked it in at F1 autocentres for Aircon check/regas on Saturday. If this fixes the problem I'll cancel appt with Skoda, otherwise it'll go in and I'll tell them it's fully regassed and that there is definitely a problem. I can even demonstrate the noise if I can get an engineer to my car with me. I just know I've been fobbed off by this Skoda dealer before. Don't want it to happen again! :( -
Octavia - Noisy Aircon (Droning) - Warranty claim?
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks all. It is a noise only - VCDS shows nothing. I may try F1 autocentres regas at the weekend then - and then cancel Skoda if the problem goes away. -
Hey folks, I purchased my current 12-plate Octavia VRS from Skoda last January, so it is still under the Skoda approved warranty until Jan 16. The aircon has recently developed a droning noise - much like a bearing has gone. The sound comes from the dash area. The noise stops as soon as I press the AC button to turn it off. The noise varies with engine revs, and can be heard more-so at lower revs/speed. The aircon is still cold and clears windows fine - so from a functional point of view I am happy that it all still works ok. I phoned my local Skoda to book it in next week, but they then said that I'd be liable to pay a £69.95 diagnostics fee if the parts are not covered under warranty. They told me that they couldn't advise if I needed to pay until they had looked at the problem - but by then they'll be charging me the cost anyway!?! Surely they can tell me if the parts would be covered prior to doing any work...? Should the aircon components be covered under Skoda approved warranty? What is the most likely cause of this noise? I have searched google and on here - and many suggestions are around compressor, compressor bearings, low refrigerant etc... In my opinion all of these should be covered under warranty bar the refrigerant - but then if it's cold enough I don't think that would be the root cause? Any help is appreciated folks - just want to make sure I'm armed with the correct information before I drop the car off! Thanks

Looks like superskoda one? If so, how do you open the bonnet? Quite like the black debadged one they do at about £80 but no mention of bonnet opener..

Where did you get the grille from?

Thanks bud, £600 is a much better price, was that fitted or just for parts? -

Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I know what you mean, but clearly not everyone needs a new clutch with revo, so looks like we are some of the unlucky few. (Annoyingly I seem to be getting my fair bit of bad luck with cars lately) Is the new clutch a big difference to OEM feel? I don't want to walk around with a Huge left thigh and calf, if you get my drift... Lol I assume it's gonna be close to £1k for the new clutch then, which isn't something I can really afford at the moment. I may have to just turn the remap off until I can afford to replace it. -

So what did you do to resolve then? New clutch? -
Hey folks, My 2012 TSI octavia vrs has a stg1 map installed last week, and in any performance mode (A, B or C) I'm getting a fair bit of clutch-slip. (No other mods at all) If I use anything over about 1/2 - 3/4 throttle in 3-6th gear, I can easily get the clutch to slip, so think I need to replace it. My car has 9k miles on the clock, so quite shocked that the clutch is so weak. With the DMF etc all being ok (fingers crossed) I don't intend to change this. Has anyone else had a stock clutch with limited mileage slip after a stage 1 map? Reading on here is seems that only Sachs clutches are worth buying (although a few mentions of Helix) - but I really don't want a heavy pedal as its my main commuting car which is a lot of A roads and stop/start driving. Is fitting another OEM clutch even an option? What are they normally rated to? Thanks

As an FYI, prices quoted from a dealer today (and ordered) for my mk2 FL Octy vRS: 1ST 853 601 A AUL £11.09 inc vat 5J0 853 621 A AUL £16.27 inc vat This comes to a total of £27.36, so very slightly cheaper than ebay and quicker delivery too (should be in for collection on Friday) -

SkodaParts state a £4.99 postage cost for those 2 parts, unless I'm missing a discount code or something? Found these on the 'bay for £14 (rear) and £13.50 (Front) both with free delivery, so overall cost looks like they may be a few quid cheaper.. -
Hey Folks, Having picked up my new Petrol vRS recently, I thought I'd do a quick VCDS check on the car and see if there were any errors. Oddly enough, 01309 Power Steering Module Implausible signal was logged, and would not clear. I looked on RossTech website, which states I may have a MIL active, and the possible causes are incorrect coding. (FYI I have no MIL, but a persistent error in VCDS) So, after a bit more research, I found various threads on VAG forums stating that it could be related to the DSR settings in either the ABS module or the Steering Assist module. Checking ABS, it was set to the default of 0 (strong), and the value within Steering Assist was set to 1. VCDS Scan reveals my car ABS to be ESP MK60EC1. According to Rosstech website, the values possible are: Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) active (only ESP MK60 & MK60-AT) Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) inactive (only ASR MK70) Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) active (only ESP MK60EC1 & MK60 AWD/4X4) So this would lead me to believe it should be the bottom option of the above, which I assume is a value of 2? Would this be correct? I have set the value to 2, and I can clear the error fine. I just want to make sure I've done the right thing and not caused any potential issues. Thanks

Sorry for dragging up an old-ish thread, but has anyone been able to solve this, and if so, what was the fix? I read that it could be incorrectly configured settings, but I don't want to go adjusting settings without knowing what they should be. I have seen this error on a car and it doesn't clear - it's the only error logged, no dash lights, and power steering seems to be fine. Cheers

Octavia vrs petrol - towbar / high mileage - advice pls

thanks guys. I'll try and check suspension and look for signs of wear on rear tyres etc - but if there is anything else I could check let me know -

Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Worst case scenario they could have been towing a horse trailer or similar all over the country and it just puts extra strain and stress on thr drivetrain, additional wear above normal. When you don't know for certain, I always opt for the more pessimistic view - just don't know if I'm being overly cautious. I suppose the warranty is certainly something to bear in mind. -
Octavia vrs petrol - towbar / high mileage - advice pls
Pabs replied to Pabs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks guys. I don't intend on doing any towing myself so I'd remove the visible neck as soon as I got it, hopefully making the car rear look OEM. My mileage shouldn't be over the 12k average, and depending on work circumstances could be as little as 5-6k a year so the average will drop over time. That said I just don't want to be looking at big maintenance bills in a year or so due to the extra wear from towing with previous owner. I know the DSG box needs oil change every £40k so should have been done on that car recently. I may go and take a look at it at some point but if there is anything I can check for wear if I do, tips on what to look for would be great. Thanks! -
