  1. Yes. Just pry it off, but I don't know what you'll be able to tell .. The Tweeter is glued on from behind, so no way to take it out by removing the tweeter cover only
  2. Line convertors go from basic cheapo jobbies with cheapo sound quality up to fully-fledged output processors like the JL Audio CleanSweep or Alpine H650.. Read up about them, but basically you get what you pay for, and your sound system will only sound as good as the weakest link..
  3. You can use the rear seatbelt mounting bolts as well. I've done that on mine and it's perfect. Make sure you sand the area around the screw See:
  4. but if you want to be impressed see http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/ipb/index.php/topic/321181-skoda-octavia-vrs-ii-install-audioconcept-croatia/
  5. Working on a basic sound system install in my FL Octavia RS... Parts I'm putting in are: Alpine PXE-H650 Focal FP 5.500 Alpine Type R 17cm Components MTX Thunder5500 12" sub Piccies... pics of the Alpine Processor installation tomorrow...
  6. Something is definitely loose or out of balance. Tried up to 150mph for a good 15 minutes and it was absolutely fine.
  7. You're gonna run Focal Utopia's off the standard Blaupunkt harness using speaker inputs?? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.. your system will only be as good as it's weakest like and in this case the speaker-line convertor inside the Blaupunks amp will severely affect your sound quality... I have an amp already, Focal FP 5.500 (75x4 and 300x1) and Rainbow Platinum midbass with Rainbow Profi tweeters... I need to get a clean pre-amp signal.. anyone tried the recoding that changes the speaker outs to pre-outs?
  8. Hi, I have a FL 2010 Octavia with BOLERO head unit. I bought a quadlock RCA out adaptor which I hoped would work but didn't, so I need a way to get a clean pre-amp signal to my amplifier ... I'm using a speaker to RCA convertor now temporarily but it's absolutely unacceptable. I have read the COLUMBUS and possibly the BOLERO can be coded to output low-level from the speaker outs, has anyone tried this? Also does anyone have experience with factory system integration processors like Alpine IMPRINT, JL Audio Cleansweep, etc.. I have optical parking sensors, bluetooth, steering controls, maxidot and dual zone climate so I really don't want to go for an aftermarket head unit and lose all that.. not to mention it will look rubbish on the dash.. I understand all these should work with the COLUMBUS? Thanks...
  9. Well, in principle, yes, but the fact that they claim water damage mans they can plaster it on anything. Definitely stick to trying, but I'd expect the dealer to charge, claiming it is also a water damage issue. Good luck mate,,,
  10. Totally agree. I used to have bad back pain when I had my old Mk4 Golf GTI and using the lumbar support sorted it out. With my new FL Octavia vRS the lumbar support doesn't inflate(?) nearly as much as my old Golf - turned all the way I can barely feel it starting to move :( I'd be very interested in a fix to this ... without using external cushions if at all possible
  11. Also It's been known of VAG (not specifically for the TSI engines) that Skoda and Seat cars power output is understated to make the VW's and Audi's look better. The 2010 Skoda Octavia VRS (TSI) is stated to make 200hp, but the Mk6 GTI with the same engine, turbo, everything is rated at 210.. Same with the Leon Cupra - I can't remember the exact figure but the Leon Cupra is quoted to have less power than the Audi TT with the same engine/turbo combo. Previously the mapping and turbos used to be different, but in the examples above the boost is the same, the turbos and engines are the same...
  12. steering needs alignment. Mine is the same from the factory when I bought it new. dealer should sort it out but make sure they don't screw up the tyre alignment.. personally I've just accepted it as the dealer may make things worse..
  13. go to tirerack.com and select a 2010 VW Jetta.. close enough and the wheel fitments are the same..
  14. Yes, you can use a line to RCA convertor or better still, a quadlock plug to RCA out. I bought one but didn't remove the headunit to actually check it fits, but it should. No decent head unit on the market in the same shape as the Bolero. You can get the trim set with cage easily from Skoda directly as a spare part. Before you decide to change the Bolero consider the integration with other systems in the car. I have bluetooth, steering controls, maxidot, dual zone climate control, optical parking, all of which use the Bolero as the main display. If I ever change the Bolero it will only be to the Columbus..
  15. Could it be something simple like speed-sensitive volume enabled and you turned up the volume while slowing down?
  16. I'm 26, but Insurance here is not related to age - just a simple calculation based on the car's value. Must cost you a bit to insure your car!
  17. Yes normal. I don't know why but that is the case in my Mk.2 FL Octavia, and my previous 2 Mk.4 VW Golf's and Mk.1 Seat Leon
  18. Yes I was, but I went ahead and made an order for my VRS (Mk 2 TSI) and a Leon Cupra. I miss the 1.8T though, I know them like the back of my hand wish I could say the same about the new TSI...
  19. No need to buy the full mount kits, just the insert, bolt and washer will do. I installed one on a customer's '08 Leon Cupra last week. and the difference was night and day. I tested with standard map/fuel pump and also stage 2 map and HPFP and the difference was noticeable in both cases. My car is a DSG and while I don't really feel the slop similar to a manual car I'm installing one for longevity.
  20. 6-speed DSG can handle A LOT of power - much more than the software limit. VW contracted HPA to create twin-turbo versions of the R32 (over 600hp) to test the DSG and it stood up to thousands of miles of full load testing. The 7-speed cannot handle nearly as much power, but then again the engines they are mated to usually are not tuned that much. To answer your question, yes it is the same. You can confirm by checking the gearbox part code, would be 02E.
  21. I'd say catch tank is not optional. I had the intake out on my car which has less than 4,000 miles and it had a lot of oil inside..
  22. OK here we go: Exhaust flange is slightly different to the FSI but most aftermarket exhaust manufacturers simply make a flange that fits both. I can confirm Blue Flame does and a few others as well. Ask before you buy. Downpipe is a bitch to change on the TSI as the new heatshield makes it very hard to access one of the bolts.. Fuel system is much higher capacity than FSI, the new TSI can handle a K04 upgrade without changing fueling hardware. Remap figures for the TSI are much higher than the FSI mainly due to this. AWE Tuning in the US sell a full K04 upgrade kit using OEM parts for $2000, You'll need a custom remap to make it work. 350+ hp. Intake does make a BIG difference. I could not see the restrictions in the stock system, especially after the MAF, but many people have reported 5-8 hp gains on a stock car, and 10-12 hp on a remapped car. Turbo outlet pipe supposedly helps. AWE Tuning make one. Just a note: I am not a representative of AWE Tuning nor have I bought anything from them (yet) As far as numbers go, supposedly a remap gets you 50 or so hp more, a downpipe and intake should add another 15-20. Other miscellaneous bits like an intercooler, turbo outlet pipe, throttle pipe should help with top end and throttle response. All in all the TSI is a much better engine than the FSI. I wouldn't go aywhere above 350hp without connecting rods at least.
  23. You don't need to remove any of the fuel hoses - you just undo the fuel rail bolts and pull the injectors out of the manifold. You may have trouble reattaching the manifold support bracket due to the increased gasket thickness. I ran my Golf GTI without the bracket for over 60k miles without it and it was fine. it is pretty simple but not easy. Make sure you have decent long reach allen/hex sockets, extensions and a u-joint.
