  1. On my 4th superb now, total miles of almost 600K across the previous 3 cars. First Mark I gave me nearly 300K miles before the water ingress problem screwed up some electrics and started giving me random problems. None of the 3 cars squeaked even the slightest. Hovever having picked up a 2016 Mark III automatic with 50,000 on the clock it has developed the most annoying vibration on the top of the dash at almost exactly 2000 rpm just before it drops down a gear when under load. Garage man looked at it and says it defo not mechanical fault but man is it annoying. Seems like a vibration between the dash and the windscreen. Anyone else have anything similar or any cures apart from turning the radio up?
  2. Cheers. Who is Eddile nl? I have searched members but see lots of Eddies.
  3. I have just noticed my spare key in my MkII 2011 superb will not work. It opens the doors, starts the car for 2 secs then cuts out. With Key not found message. I read in the forum here that it means my key needs to be coded. I have read some posts talking about being able to do this yourself ( Which I would find unlikely given how skoda like to bend you over for stuff like this ) where you just need the working key to open the car and then put spare in the ignition blah blah ... didnt work. Any way to get this done without going down the "main dealer" route?
  4. @numskull. Living in N. Ireland . Bailed out from the south 11 yrs ago. Getting great entertainment now listening to the almost daily ranting about some new tax that's coming in to help pay for the excesses of the now castrated Celtic Tiger. They have spent millions devising a post code system. Can't quiet figure out why no one has suggested looking northwards and extend the UK post code system. Using something mad like IE instead of BT as the first part of an extended post code system would take years to come up with. I suppose when you have a budget of 50Mil to spend then no point in having the job done by breakfast time on the first day. Anyways its a pain in the ar$e having to update my 2011 system to be as good as my old 2005 one !! PS Don't even get me started on the social welfare handouts down south
  5. I just bought the car last month from a dealer. I guess I could ask him to get the latest s/w on it. If I were to do it myself how would I go about it? How can you tell the version of the firmware you are currently running with?
  6. Do I have to pay for the update and where can I get it?
  7. Had a 2005 elegance and made a lot of use of the inbuilt sat nav instead of using my phones one because it's battery would almost always be dead when I needed it. The Superb 1 nav was not the most user friendly but you could put the first 4 digits of the post code and then the street and house number. Job done. Now I have a 2011 superb elegance and tried to enter my home address. Again only takes first 4 digits before asking for street address which I duly enter but then ....... No option to put a house number... WTF? I can put an intersection but thing is I don't live at an intersection, I live in a house. Any destination I put in, same story, no option to put house number, just intersection. If I knew an area well enough to know which initersection I need to go to then I wouldn't need the sat nav. It's the last mile of a journey that usually nobbles you if you don't know where you're going. Don't see anythng in the manual to change this. Any ideas?
  8. Thanks for that folks. Yes, got it sorted there now so all connected now. Not very obvious from the user manual how to go about doing it, read the pages about phone setup but never once came across the maxidot thingy. Maybe theres a different manual for maxidot?
  9. Pray tell, what is this "Maxidot" ye speak of? I have a stereo and a phone and a manual that says "click setup" and all will be well in the world.
  10. Followed the "1 step" instruction list in the manual for the phone setup for my coumbus stereo and it reads as follows. Car is an elegance 2011 so it defo has bluetooth. Goto Setup, then click Telephone. This only gives me the option of doing a Factory Reset which I did just to humour myself. Still no other options in the setup list. When I click phone on the LHS it tells me no user connected. Basically I can't seem to pair the stereo with my phone when I do a bluetooth device scan. Is there anything I am missing? I don't see any option to turn bluetooth on or off on the stereo. Any ideas? Edit... My phone is a Galaxy Note 1. I have read stuff about rSAP protocol being used which could be the root of my problem. Going to try an S5 phone tomorrow to see if I have same problem.
  11. Cheers folks. Hearing that this could cost north of £1000 to fix then I'm glad I spotted it before handing over the dosh. Can't see that the dealer has made much out of this car then but that's not my concern
  12. Took test drive in 2011 superb and noticed a flicker in the illumination lights for the instrument cluster. 110K and FSH so not worried about it being clocked. Dealer said he will get it fixed but after lots of calls it turns out he has had to replace the instrument cluster and has it down at the maindealer to get the new panel recoded. My question is , is there any other side effects of having the panel replaced that I should check before paying for the car?
  13. Great post, busts the myth IMHO about a tuning box giving 20% more MPG
  14. Also wonder if the MPG increase is as much as some of these guys claim? Can anyone vouch for a noticable increase in MPG based on distance travelled on a full tank? The car telling you you are getting 60 mpg is not the same as actually driving 60 miles on one gallon of fuel as the calculated figure is based on what the ECU thinks it is injecting where as I would guess these tuning boxes are modifying this figure ( Either up wards or downwards )
  15. Hey numskull, Do you think the two suppliers are selling the same thing, just with their own branding and tweaks to the software? I would find it hard to believe that there are UK based companies that build their own hardware rather than source it from Taiwan/China
  16. What are peoples opinions on these guys offering? http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/ £100 cheaper than chip express it seems
  17. What sort of money are we talking about for remapping a 140 bhp 2.0L engine up to a 170 bhp? I can't tell from this thread if the clutch etc can handle the increased power. I don't drive like an anti christ so wouldn't be abusing it. Also as regards insurance, how does the insurance company know if you do the remap? Why would I go declaring it for a higher premium if there is no way of them knowing? Finally, is there an MPG improvement to be had provided of course you don't have a heavy foot?
  18. Would anyone reccomend remapping a MkII superb with 100K on the clock? Would the turbo throw a fit?
  19. Thanks folks for posts. So can I defo say that a 2011 superb is a Common Rail type system? This is the car I am looking at. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201504232862147/sort/default/fuel-type/diesel/make/skoda/postcode/bt457rs/channel/cars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/model/superb/keywords/elegance/radius/80/page/1/usedcars?logcode=p Not sure if the forum allows posting links. If not the exact make is "Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI CR DPF Elegance 5dr" I take it the CR implies Common Rail?
  20. Thinking of changing Santa Fe for a Skoda Mk II. Already have been driving Superb MkI for past 11 years and at 260K I have no intention of changing that car. Question is I have seen several people with A6s, Passats, around 2005 - 2008 that have serious problems with injectors and clutches, flywheels etc. Garage man tells me the 2.0L Audi, VWs from that era is a car to avoid. Question is did these problems extend to the superb or because the Mk II came out in 2008 did it avoid being lumped with this peice of **** engine? ( I did look at one 2008 Mk II that had an engine replacement done so my alarm bells started ringing )
  21. Recently after water ingress problem another problem i have is the radio. I disconnected the battery when I was the water in the bulk head, drained the water out and reconnected battery. Radio then asked me for code, which I duely entered and the radio worked again. Now after a week at mr garage man I see the radio is in SAFE mode again so I go to enter my code .... doh, The cursor is stuck at 1 and no button on the radio appears to do anything. The power on/off is the only thing that works. Any idea what might be wrong? As I said. I have the code but I just cant enter it :(
  22. I recently had the Water ingress issue and got it sorted before any major damage was caused. Dried it as best I could and drove away. However the electrics seats stopped working so I too assumed it was down to the water problem. Sure enough the garage man identified the seat control unit as having being afffected cause it lies under the seat on passenger side. Only drivers seat is affected. He can get the seat to work ok after a reset by pluging out the power to the seat but after you stop the car and start it you have to remove, replace the plug again. It seems the seat goes into safe mode and stays like that. He hasn't been able to get a diagram of the wiring for this control unit so I said I would try here for him. Anyone know where I could get a diagram of this unit and the associated wiring? Thanks ... J
  23. Sorry guys but problem fixed, I feeI like a right clown. Just found a post http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/105696-cruise-control-not-working/ I didn't find this post when I used the search here on briskoda but found it after a lot of googling. It answers a question I have asked myself for the past 8 years of Skoda superb driving. "What is that little slide switch for on the left stalk" I had got back into the passenger side after I put the OBD device in and was talking to a mate on the phone for a min, of course poked about the steering wheen and flicked the switch without thinking. Hung up the phone started up the car and did my test run. Took out the OBD device and then thought IT had broken my cruise. I recently bought a Hyundai Santa fe and have cursed it's cruise system for being so complicated. It has a ON/Off switch and then beyond finger reach is your Set and further away again is Resume. so you have to move your hands again. I always think, why do you need an On switch? If I want to cruise at surrent speed I press "set" in the skoda, if I don't then I don't. I have never accidently pressed cruise set. Now it seems the Superb has actually this "Do you really want to turn on cruise" button but at least it's a physical button that stays in an ON state constantly.
  24. Today I plugged in an OBD scan tool in to my superb to monitor the engine speed snsor vs gps speed. I also cleared some logged data. That was it, nothing else. After 5mins i plugged it out only to find my cruise was no longer working. Never had a prob with it before so it had to be releted to the OBD device doing something i was unaware of .... But what. Now im afraid to plug that damm thing into anything other than my bin. Any ideas on what i can do before i take it to mr Automotive electrics down the road
  25. Well that answers that. Sounds like it would be similar to over clocking me Grandads pace maker. He might have a pep in his step for a while but it won't last
