I am getting the same issue with my 2010 1.8TSi 6-speed. However, mine works properly from cold. The gear shift becomes like treacle after about 15 miles running (so presumably only after everything has warmed up). Any idea why it should be temperature sensitive? Also, I seem to recall reading (on a Golf forum I believe) that the gearbox oil might need a change. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

I had exactly the same symptoms on my Octavia. Before spending a potential fortune on dealers' diagnostics I had the system re-gassed. Problem solved. PS. the noise was coming from one of the fans (under the bonnet).

Hi Can anyone recommend a good independent for Skoda servicing in the South Bristol / Weston-super-Mare / Cheddar area. I am looking for a place that will do a proper job at a decent price. I have used Clist & Rattle (now Blade) so far, with no complaints, but now the 3rd year (dealer) warranty is at an end I thought I would look at alternatives.

I believe it means your dealer has set fixed rather than variable servicing.

This is what I have just got for my Elegance estate. Fits properly - separate models for normal or raised boot floor. Had one on a Merc for about 9 years and I can recommend it, even if it seems a bit pricey HERE

Has anyone fitted the Skoda accessory door sill covers - these ? How do they fit - double-sided sticky tape, screws, rivets, or what? I can see after a month of ownership that the sills are likely to take quite a bashing so these protectors seem a good idea.

Strangely, I'm with deiseldogg on this one. But I'm not sure I would like the bigger arc when wheel-twirling, so perhaps it's a reasonable compromise. If the 1.8 TSi engine wasn't so quiet I wouldn't need the instruments - I could drive by ear.

I have had this with my month-old Octavia. Temporary cure was to shut all the air vents before locking. When I took it back to the dealer they hooked the car up and found that the sensitivity was set at 100% at the factory, whereas it should be at 70%, and a new complete factory download reset it to this level, since when I haven't had an alarm go off. I have read, however, that some people have had to 'wind theirs back' to 50% to eliminate the problem. Your dealer is either having a laugh, or is ignorant (or possibly both).

Interesting report, and initially quite convincing. I wonder, though, whether it is saying that Tesco 99 is great or that Tesco 95 is cr*p. I would like to see such a comprehensive test against, say, Shell 95.

Back on topic (ie. 1.8 TSi). I didn't choose the engine for fuel consumption since with my usage 10% or so extra mpg won't make any real difference over the course of a year after taking into account tax, insurance, servicing, depreciation etc. I chose it because I wanted some oomph, but didn't want the harsher ride of the VRs, and I am not planning to mess about with remapping etc. First impressions after just a few hundred miles? I don't think I will be breaking any records for mpg. I took it out for a (reasonably spirited) run over the Mendips this morning (still not exceeding 4k rpm until I have got a few more miles under the bonnet). Computer said "34ish mpg". The problem? What a fabulous engine. It's hard not to use the available power. I reckon this motor is going to be a lot of fun.

I have the same issue with mine. Until I can get to the dealer, I close all the air vents in the car before locking it. Seems to do the trick.

Just picked up my new Octavia today. Have to say the sales process (16 weeks+ ago - but that's not Clist & Rattles's fault) was very smooth, as was the handover today. Absolutely nothing to whinge about. (Car seems OK too!!)

I understand your position, and desire for an easy life. But this is how lousy service is allowed to continue in this country - can't imagine it happening in the USA. At least SUK should be given the 'opportunity' to reprimand (bo##ock) their franchisee - this behaviour does the brand no favours. Plus - how do you think SUK would treat a (related) waranty claim if this had been done by an independent?

No warranty - on a 4 year old car. Seller rating 83%. NO!!!

You have Bluetooth and Sat Nav. The brochure suggests that Maxidot came with these rather than with DSG, and that if you hadn't specified these items you would not have had standard Maxidot.

The current brochure suggests otherwise unless you've also ordered Bluetooth and telephone function. It is a Skoda brochure though, so may not actually be accurate

Absolutely. But I would still want it in writing from the dealer rather than relying on an internal e-mail, especially given that the SUK website currently states differently. It is, however, completely impossible that Skoda UK will not continue some equally significant discount unless they wish to exit the UK market (unlikely). How about 2.5% price rise and 20% ("VAT-free") discount?

If SUK said this on their website there wouldn't be any issue, and people could order with confidence.
