  1. Unfortunately whilst my car was unattended, someone damaged my bumper. The damage is quite minor . There is a small scrape of paint removal and a broken 'wrap around' reflector. My questions are A - how do you remove and replace the damaged reflector? B - Where can I purchase a replacement 2010 (61) Octavia Estate 1600Tdti Sorry if this sounds a trivial request but the car is my pride and joy, previously in prestige condition. TY in advance for any info you can provide.
  2. My wife has suggested that we buy a caravan .Not my favorite type of holiday, but she who must be obeyed has spoken. My Ocy is a 2010 1600 tdi.estate What is the suitability of towing with this vehicle. Ideally I would be looking for something like a 14 - 16 foot caravan . But i appreciate that the vehicle dictates the caravan size. The last thing I want to do is to put unnecessary strain on the vehicle which has proven to be best practical, comfortable and reliable cars I have ever owned .I'de rather get rid of the wife lol. Any advice would be gratefully received
  3. When I did try the sharp pull as specified in the manual, one of the fins did actually break where it met the upright section. This was the point where I stopped. Fortunately it has sprung back so the break is not visible
  4. I recently had the unfortunate task of calling out a car transporter to transport my Ocy to a garage after my wife inadvertently filled up with petrol instead of diesel :( The problem I had was removing the grill section to install the towing eye to winch onto the transporter. As I attempted to follow the removal description given in the owners manual, the obstinate section of grill started to crack. At this point I gave up on the grill section removal and the transporter driver 'hooked' on at some other point. Bottom line --- any suggestions as to how the grill section is removed. 2010 Octavia 1600Tdi Est ---------------Diesel PS the wife said sorry -------------Grrrrrrrrr
  5. The tyres are Bridgestone Turanza ER300
  6. I have just had the 1st service completed to my Ocy est 1600 diesel by my local main dealer. The only fault found was a 78% wear on both front tyres. There is only 8000 miles on the clock and I tend to be a very tyre friendly (slow) driver. The dealer suggested that I had about 1000 miles left before they became illegal and quoted me £143.80 to replace the 2 worn tyres. Is this the sort of mileage that I should be expecting for this vehicle ? By not using the main dealer and using a local tyre replacement dealer will this affect my warranty? Apart from the tyres the car has more than impressed me for practicality, comfort and a very reasonable mpg
  7. Thank you for your responses --another problem solved
  8. I had a discussion with a 'knowledgable' :wonder: friend who suggested that my new Ocy was based on a golf. I suggested it was based on the Passat :smirk: Can someone please put us out of our misery
  9. jUST VISITED - THE ROOFBOX.CO.UK Exellent site .. Thank you so much for your comments. I have just ordered the Etera system with locks . Total cost £80.45 inc postage. Nice looking sturdy bars , worth paying a little extra for. I have has a few questions since buying my Octavia which I have posted on this site. The respnse is allways sensible, prompt and knoledgeable. ty again
  10. I need to purchase a set of roof bars for my 2010 Ocy Estate .The Skoda bars cost £132 from the dealer. I will only use the bars about 3-4 times a year, so £132 seems a bit eccessive. Argos does a set for about £40 but the user feedback / comments seem very varied. :S Any suggestions
  11. I continually run the aircon / climatic control hot in the winter cold in the summer. The logic behind this is to remove internal moisture + as the car manual states -- it reduces dust in t he car which is predominantly caused by driving with the window open. But still as I originally stated there is still a large amount of condensation inside the front screen. I shall monitor it over the next week with pictures and then present it to the dealers to see what their reactions are to the problem. Thanks for all the input that has been given I shall post again with their feed back to the problem
  12. TY for your knowledgeable replies I have just checked the carpets in the floor well's which seem to be quite dry. As one would expect with a new car the door seals look very good without cracks, folds or splits. It’s really starting to concern me with the onset of winter + statements that the Octavia has a reputation for this type of fault :(
  13. Hi -- I bought a new Octavia estate 1.6dti last Oct. i have been most impressed with the car with the exeption of the amount of internal condensation on the screen during colder weather. I have had many cars over the years, but none of them has ever had so much moisture inside the screen :( Should I be discussing the problem with the dealer or is this the norm with this vehicle?
