  1. Hi all, I've got an 07 vRS TFSI that has covered 76k miles or so and has developed an annoying fault. At about 70k one of the coil packs completely failed and had to be replaced but since then I've noticed that the car is really unsmooth and stutters on light throttle openings and an awful lot when started from cold until the engine warms through. Part of me thinks the new coil pack might be the issue but the rest of me thinks that there are three other coil packs that have done 76k miles and are more likely to be at fault... I know in a recent evo buying guide on the GTI they noted that coil packs tend to fail together too. What's the concensus on issues like these, return the car to the dealer and point towards the new coil pack at the risk of them billing me for a load of time when it isn't that or should I buy a coil pack and go through a process of elimination on the others? (I assume these are available and easy enough to change once I get the engine cover off...?!) Is there anything other than the coil pack(s) that it is likely to be and any test I can carry out? Cheers
  2. Thanks for the offer but I bought one earlier as a just-in-case item as they aren't that expensive. Cheers
  3. Daft question I know but having searched the forums I can't seem to find a clear answer... 2007 Octavia vRS with Stream MP3 HU fitted. Finally decided I will fit a Parrot HF kit to the car but not sure if I need a harness adaptor or whether the 2no ISO connectors and the CD changer blocks are removable from the quadlock connector or not? Pictures I have seen haven't really helped either... Clearly if these are removeable I can plug the ISOs straight into the Parrot harness and the CD changer block straight into the Stream. Something tells me it won't be that easy.... Help much appreciated ! If I need an adaptor any recommendations welcomed. I see e-bay is full of such things, some even mentioning Parrot but I know that just because you can buy one doesn't mean you need one
  4. Hi, I've got a 1995 Favorit that I'd like to replace the dizzy cap and rotor arm on... the only problem is, nobody seems to know what fits?! The car is injected and has a rust red cap and rotor, much like Bosch parts but they seem to be OE as they are from the same manufacturer as the distributor. Can't remember off-hand what the manufacturer is, but it begins with an M and is from the Czech Republic. Has anybody got any comparable part numbers that I can use to source the correct parts?
  5. No extra bends as far as I'm aware. The cable is clipped in the same place under the bonnet and exits straight through the bulkhead from the speedo AFAIK?
  6. Since taking the dash apart a few times and reassembling it my speedo is really noisy (to the point of drowning out almost everything else!). From what I've read on here it could be something to do with the cable, but I can't for the life of me understand why the cable would make such a racket? From the looks of it there is no way to incorrectly insert a square cable into a square hole in the speedo so I assume it hasn't gone together incorrectly? Any suggestions as to how to fix this welcomed, or failing that offers of a new cable would be lovely
  7. Hi all, I've got a set of 5 spoke GLXi E alloy wheels to fit to my Favorit, which currently has steel wheels, the only thing is the bolts didn't come with them. Does anyone know if the bolts are the same for both wheel types or if they are specific? Thanks in advance.
  8. Torques and orders will be courtesy of Haynes, just the quandry of the bolt replacement itself. Possibly more importantly is what is the correct protrusion for the liners above the top of the head?
  9. Normally when replacing a HG I would replace the bolts as a matter of course as they tend to be the stretch variety, however my local dealer told me today that it wasn't strictly necessary on the 1.3 Skoda engine. So what is the definitive answer?
  10. Local friendly MOT centre had a look for me yesterday and found no trace of combustion gases in the expansion tank but agreed that the coolant was oily and the oil was wet (IYSWIM). I haven't seen what a HG looks like yet but presumably there is a means for the gasket to have broken down between coolant and oil galleries, hence the cross contamination without exhaust gases being present? If this is the case I imagine it will all be in a pretty poor state. I'm able to do the HG but the cost of these parts are similar to what the car cost as it was bought for a charity rally to Prague... I don't suppose anybody has a spare set of new bolts going begging do they?! Which HG set to buy is the next question, some come with valve stem seals, others don't. I need a rocker cover gasket too, so one including both would be best.
  11. Sorry, I should have made it clear I was after typical PSI values for the cylinders, not compression ratio. Am I right to think I should be looking at about 130 - 140 PSI? Haven't looked at anything yet but the plugs will obviously have to come out to do a compression test anyway.
  12. Hi all, I've got some head gasket concerns on a 1.3 lump and was planning on a compression test to determine if it's HG or just short runs causing some mayo. The car is an early 1995 with 1.3 67bhp engine. Could anyone advise what typical compression values for this engine are? Many thanks in advance.
  13. Thanks for the info guys, I'm not running a remap as it happens though it often goes through my mind... I had the car serviced a couple of months back and the economy got better following that, but I'd put that down to fresh oil etc. Is it not likely that they would already have done this update then? I'm interested in the comment above about the ECU learning your driving style. Does the standard ECU have that ability? Is it really only 100 miles to learn your style again? I drive about 100 miles a day just commuting so this isn't the end of the world but in my mind the car runs great already. If the economy gets worse after the map long-term I'll be a bit narked as at the moment on long runs with the cruise set at 70mph I'm getting 40-41mpg average! Even with normal driving at 75-80mph and town and lanes too I'm getting about 37mpg average from a tank, scarcely believable numbers I know having read some people's posts on "economy"!
  14. Hi guys, Had a call from my dealer today advising that they have just received a recall for the ECU on my petrol vRS, something to do with errant engine problem warning lights (though I've not had the problem myself). Does anybody know anything more about this and the other ECU changes they will be making? He mentioned fuelling but mine is running great and giving me big MPG too so I'm happy at the moment. Car is April 2007 BTW. Any help much appreciated. Andfit
  15. For good customer service try the guys in Mansfield, I can't remember the name of the dealership but I drove 125 miles to go and see them after a phone call and wouldn't hesitate to go back when I'm after my next car. Some are clearly dreadful and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole... sadly you sometimes learn this the hard way! HTH
