  1. Hi Nathan As you suspect car computer ridiculously optimistic. I've been driving same car for about 12k now and got suspicious about it's figures so I've done a lot of "measured runs", best I can manage ; mixed (50/50) 39 100% motorway 47 Car claimed 59 This is with reasonably legal / sensible driving. You could probably get a bit more if you drove incredibly carefully but you didn't get a VRS to do that did you ? For a car of it's vintage the mpg figures aren't too bad I suppose but the inaccuracy of the computer really ****es me off, it's a precisely metered injection system for gods sake. I assume it's been frigged deliberately. Angus
  2. How about these. HEL always had good rep in bike world http://www.brake-lines.co.uk/skoda-fabia-1-9-tdi-vrs-2003-hel-brake-lines.html I have an unused set (colour carbolook) if you're interested
  3. Like to give a big public thanks to Ben for assistance "beyond the call of duty" when a problem was revealed when I remapped, have to stress problem was NOT CAUSED by the remap and he was under absolutely no obligation to help me out so ; THANKS BEN THANKS BEN THANKS BEN THANKS BEN THANKS BEN THANKS BEN Angus
  4. Thanks for the advice guys, will checkout demap options first
  5. Hi BTCCSEAT Thanks for fast response. I don't have an ECU yet, just checking out whether I can replace and what procedure is. I'd like to retain all funcionality. And before I shoot off on the wrong track better make sure I'm using correct terminology here. I suspect my car has been remapped and basically want to return to standard. I imagine one way of doing this would be to fit a standard ECU, assuming this is the unit that holds map ? Angus
  6. For reasons I won't go into I'm thinking of trying new ECU in my car. I suspect ECUs are somehow "keyed" to the car, could someone confirm if this is the case and what the procedure is to "rekey" for new ECU. I have access to full copy of VCDS if that helps. Also any suggestions for a source for a new unit would be great. Ta Angus Millar
  7. Sorry vRSsunroof, I'd ordered before your post ! Looks the business though, see attached, and there should be 9 tins left. Woops ! Forgot to thank Mike B for the paint link, Thanks Mike
  8. Thanks for the fast / informative replies, I think I feel a bid coming on. Thanks again
  9. Need some advice folks, thinking of fitting 312mm front brakes to Fabia VRS, are calipers below suitable ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220670528137&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1031 Also I undestand advisable to use different hoses (slightly longer ?) Anyone know exactly what the difference is ? I'd like to order up HEL / Goodridge but need info to do so. FInally any recommendations for "Skoda green" paint ? Thanks
  10. Ben told me to give him a shout if nothing appeared by 14th
  11. Thanks for all the informative comments folks, not sure what Little John's point is though Pretty convinced now that the MPG figure produced by car / trip computer being optimistically massaged. Only need to measure two things after all, amount of fuel injected and mileage. Manufacturers claim the former being very accurately measured in the interest of economy / emissions blah blah and in my case the mileage measurement was spot on ie there's no excuse for the inaccuracies everyone's experiencing. Happy motoring folks
  12. Got my VRS in May and been a little surprised at how often I'm having to refuel so did a wee run to check consumption. Topped up & recorded mileage, 126 mile round trip, 95% motorway and A roads at reasonable speeds, nothing mental. Topped up again at same pump and calculated MPG. I reckoned 46, car reckoned 53. Either the trip computer is horribly inaccurate ( approx +15%) or I'm losing diesel somewhere. Any comments ? PS I also own / use a 2002 Octavia 1.6i and it's computer seems spot on so only conclusion I can come to is that Skoda have deliberately bodged the Fabia to give ridiculously optimistic figures, bit disappointing.
  13. Hi Ben How could I resist a free STS ! Count me in, I'll give you a ring tomorrow
  14. I've just fitted one of these to 2006 Fabia VRS, I assume same as yours. Went straight on., no messing with adapters http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vw-golf-mk4-bora-passat-seat-skoda-door-speakers-/360280611144?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53e265d948#ht_500wt_896 Fun bit is removing door trim, reasonably good walk through in Haynes manual or search forums, sure I've seen something on this. If (when !) you break door clips these do the business ; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120586919005&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123#ht_1233wt_656 Final point, speakers attached with 5mm rivets, easy enough to drill out, watch backs don't drop into door. To attach new speaker I bought a pop riveter (complete with a selection of rivets) from Homebase for about £13
