Decent Dealer In Hampshire For Warrenty Work ?
Organist replied to Mace's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The main problem I have found with Winchester is that they seem to need a bit of a kicking to get things done, especially servicing stuff. Some of the servicing staff are a bit slow-witted and the car is NEVER clean when you get it back. -
Don't be ridiculous! Silly person!

Octy II 170DSG versus Superb II 170 DSG
Organist replied to ColinD's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Why not wait until the new Superb Estate comes along before you choose. You'd certainly get your bike in that! -
Car plan do a lovely 'cherry flavoured' screen wash. My wife sprays the screen just for the smell now! Haven't half gone through a lot of it lately.......

My screen was absolutely bloody filthy when I picked my new car up with only 3 miles on the clock,,,,,,,,,

Engine lumpy idle/tickover
Organist replied to markticktock's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Quite often it is the alternator 'coming on line' if the battery is calling for more oomph. It will also occur when the a/c is regulating itself, I have noticed. Both of which put additional drag on an idling engine. -
:D That made me laugh!

There is a new Skoda dealer opened up in Botley - Sparshatts. Had a notification from SUK yesterday. They have been a Subaru dealer for years. Don't know if they're any good though. Although I have brought two Octavias from Winchester Motor Co over the last three years, I can also agree that the service side of things is a bit slapdash lately, and they NEVER EVER wash the bloody car after a service or warranty work either. It's a bit S H I T E !

does anybody own LJ07GJZ

Have you been Talivaned or Gatsoed? -
Manual every time. I have owned over 25 cars in my driving life and 3 have been automatic. I have had problems with all three autos, (Honda, Vauxhall and Peugeot) and never had to replace even a clutch on a manual, even on the VERY ropey Datsun 120Y which had done over 350,000 miles BEFORE I got it!

Saw an 09 reg MK I taxi in Southampon yesterday, in the obligatory white!

Skoda Radio Stream - cannot find AUX
Organist replied to piotrpakos's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The older steams (that is to say non MP3) do not have AUX in. The later ones do. Your car is a 2004 model so it will not have the facility, I'm afraid. -
532miles and at least 40 left
Organist replied to vRS Carl's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Well done, Mike. I have found that it is perfectly, and repeatedly possible to exceed 70mpg on the octavia 1.9TD, provided that you do not exceed 62 mph! This will give you a reading on a full tank of over 800 miles! I have also found thought that as soon as you approach 70+mph, the fuel consumption descends rapidly into the high 50's, with a normal 70mph drive getting between 51-57mpg. -

No, there was no interference on MW, which is as crap as ever, but I have noticed that the FM reception has been getting progressively worse over the last couple of weeks. This prompted me to look at the radios' menu settings and I found the dreaded Ant=off in the display. This has also coincided with the high-level brake light suffering from condensation and that two of the leds have gone out. Am just wondering whether the two are coincidental or not? Anyway, warranty work beckons, me thinks! -
What is it about Xenons that people like?
Organist replied to JonCope's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Kick angle is fine for MOT (as tested and set up at MOT station) its just that the spread (width) is so huge. To be honest, there is no such thing as a perfect light and any will dazzle in some circumstances - at the crest of a hill, for instance. -

Another vote for HID's. Having had 2 Octy II's with and without. I would agree that the kick up on the L/H side is a trifle excessive though! It really ****es people off when you are overtaking them on the motorway! -

My Antenna base amplifier has just gone off. Atrocious reception on FM but at least I could get Test Match Special on LW yesterday! -

Brim to brim I got 805 miles out of the old tractor (1.9PD) over the last few days travelling up and down the A34. Never exceeding 65mph and very little town work, my friend's Prius can only dream of this! Never mind that it's an old tractor engine as some may call it - I don't care, 70+ mpg CONSISTANTLY is nothing short of amazing!!! -
How Good Is A Fabia As A Family Car?
Organist replied to Starscream's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
We've had our Vrs for three years from new. Although we only have one child, when he was a baby the associated paraphernalia was considerable, but we never exhausted the capacity of the car. I still love the car and it would take a very special alternative to make me change it. We have toured Ireland and France in it and loved every moment! I use it for my long-distance jobs in England too! -
Easy car to get bored with. I had a 3.2 gsi and I got fed up with it in 12 months!
-
Would you really consider a civic? With all the problems, lack of rear view (actually none!) and no wiper on the back - for round town use??? Whats's wrong with the Octavia? - one of the most practical reliable cars on the market, good residuals (whichever variant you choose) and great space for the longer trips. I'd prefer diesel over 1.6 petrol any day though!
-
They are not really adjustable on the garage headlight aligner. Full beam patterns are really a very personal and subjective matter. I would suggest that you find a country road and align them as to how YOU like them!
-
I've had too many auto gearboxes fail in the the 25 odd cars I have owned. I have never had any trouble with the manual ones. I also prefer to be in charge of what's going on.

Well done you - sodding fantastic - go and get your medal. So you have spent, what, £25 quid, and how much time fannying about getting codes and programming this and that. All I'm saying is that not all of us have the time or the inclination to do this preferring to get the job done by the dealer with a virgin new key. End of!
